NOT WINNING ANYTHING? Tips on WHY:

I have read all the tips here. I went back and double and triple checked my email. Still naaaadaaaa! So, since I am not ready to throw in the towel, I am wondering how long a "dry spell" lasts. I have been in this for a short 2 months, but haven't won a thing in well over 2 weeks? I just keep entering and hoping. Thanks for any comments, and Good Luck with Your Sweeping!!!

I thought I responded to this, but I see you already answered it yourself, YAY!!!

Got home from errands and found Ups had made a stop. What a great surprise. Exactly 2 months in, and won a Wii and a game from Redbook's Melgrave Incident Sweepstakes. Thank you SA and Redbook.

REMEMBER CHECK YOUR EMAIL EVERY DAY!

This last spring I was on a 3 day trip to Vegas from a contest win. We left on Friday morning and came back on the last flight out Sunday night.
With flight delays we did not get home till 1pm Monday afternoon. When I travel I take my computer to check mail and download pictures to.
This time I did not take it because it was just a short weekend in Vegas. After unpacking I got on my computer to check my mail. There was a contest win! It was sent out Friday afternoon. I had won 2 business class tickets New York to Paris and tickets to the French Open.
At the bottom of the email it said I need to email or fax the affidavit back by noon Monday or an alternate winner would be selected. It was now 1:30pm. I called the phone number in the email and told them I has been out of town and had just read the email. They said they were sorry but they had selected an alternate winner because they did not hear from me by noon.
They then told me if the alternate winner does not respond or turns it down they would come back to me. For the next 3 days I sat on my computer and prayed to the sweepstakes gods.
Then it came. The email that the alternate winner turned it down. He could not get the time off from work and for me to send in the affidavit. :sunny:
So remember Check your mail daily!

There are all kinds of sweeps, with short entry period types being somewhat rare.

Some swear by entering 1x's right at the end, no matter how long they run for, while others say it doesn't matter.

I do know that waiting until the last day can backfire if they end early in the day! :nono:

If you like the essay sweeps, that opens up more opportunities for you!

Just remember, some of the essay/recipe/pic/etc. sweeps will require you to get the most votes, so you might want to become a regular voter in our vote forum:

http://www.sweepstakesplus.com/smf/referral-and-vote-requests-b8.0/

So people will be happy to vote for you knowing you will return votes. :sunny:

As to local sweeps? That's where you need to dig them up on your own - SA is {mostly} focused on listing sweeps that are national. Radio stations and local stores are good places to start.

The sweeps on SA are legit. Sweepsadvantage just lists the promotions, they don't control how they are run. Many sweeps have loose privacy policies, and we are all responsible for reading them, along with the rules, before we commit our info. Just like SA/SP doesn't control how sponsors/JA's run their sweeps, neither do they judge legitimate sweeps that post winners.

I keep in mind that when a sponsor chooses to use their advertising money on a promotion {sweepstakes, contest, etc.} that they are looking for new customers and/or trying to keep the ones they have.

Some choose to ask if you'd like to subscribe to their newsletter, while others require that you subscribe. Some will ask if they may share your info, while others will require that you allow them to to enter.

We are free to decide what our comfort level is on every sweeps we enter, and it's on us to check out their privacy policy and decide when they go above that level.

Magazine sweeps: To get to the no subscription form {their form(s) won't allow a direct link} Look for: "No purchase is necessary to enter. If you'd prefer to enter the sweepstakes without starting a trial subscription to *** or if you are already a subscriber, click here."

I've found that when people go through a dry spell they tend to focus on things that may be preventing them from winning - it's a natural reaction, especially when you used to win so easily!!! But, all the reasons people think of that may be preventing them from winning (more sweepers/cheaters/etc.) have minimal impact - it's really all about timing - either you have it or you don't.

Spam is *unsolicited" email. If, while entering a sweeps, you fail to catch a checked box that says you will recieve email from 3d parties, or agree to a privacy policy that states you will receive email from 3d parties, any resulting emails would NOT be spam. It's fine to comment that a sweeps has a very loose privacy policy, or to warn that they pre-check a box that says you will recieve email from 3d parties - that's what comments are for, but please don't post people will receive spam. Thanks.

If you get "already entered" when you try to re-enter a sweeps , it means your entry probably DID go through, but the page just didn't render correctly so you couldn't tell.

ALSO - when I started out, I learned the most by reading the COMMENTS under the individual sweeps

curmudgeon does an excellent job of explaining what SA is and what it can/can't do here:

This may not be the place to ask this but don't know who else to ask. I see tons of sweepstakes promoters. Do all you guys just use SA or do you use other promoters? How can you tell if they are for real?

Thanks,
vj

This is probably a question of semantics, but for clarification, SA isn't a promoter. It's a sweepstakes listing service. Actually, it far more than that.

Here's an example from the rules of a Progressive Insurance sweepstakes:
"Sponsor: Progressive Casualty Insurance Company, 6300 Wilson Mills Road, Mayfield Village, OH 44143. Administrator: ePrize, LLC, One ePrize Drive, Pleasant Ridge, MI 48069."

The sponsor puts up the prize(s) and the administrator promotes and administers the sweep.

SA is far and away the best of many sweeps listing services. You'll find the sweeps are usually listed here first and then find their way to listing on other sites.

There's really no need to use another listing service.

When asked how she wins so much/so often...

classes, ummm not much of a teacher but don't mind sharing what little I do know, I enter allot, I use SA plus, now this alone will not make you win or lose, the only reason it helps me win is I am more organized with the tools like sweeps catagories, so I enter more sweeps and win more, I also am very thankful for all the wins I get, you may notice I always thank God, that is not to say I am praying to win, that is I am thankful for winning, there is a difference, so please anyone this upsets please lets agree to disagree. I have been told many veiws on that part, so that is why I say let everyone be who they are. I enter mostly instant wins, and I enter them at about 2 or 3 am central time. I do enter weekly and monthly, but most of my wins are in instants. mostly I think I win allot because God loves me, knows I need a hobby and am to poor to buy the things I win for myself, am disablied and can't do much, so gives me this hobby and it would not be much fun if you never won anything. I fell into doing this a few years ago and have always been fortanate enough to win fairly regular and a few really big wins, my boat, sony vaio laptop,$500 travalosity, $500 avon, Just keep entering, keep it fun, and be thankful for what you get and you will win,it might take time but hang in there.

If you're sticking to a single category, branch out and try some of the others. Instants are popular because you can find out if you're a winner right away.

Cast your net wide, but be selective (I know, that sounds contradictory). You may be focussing on the big stuff, but don't overlook the small stuff. A book or a DVD isn't going to pay your bills, but its still something that may show up in the mail instead of one. The little stuff adds up.

Make sure you're not just checking your inbox, but also checking your spam folder for winning notifications (some of the same things that flag an email as spam are frequent traits of winners... comes from an individual you don't know, has an attachment, etc.)

Unless you're only entering the stuff that's about to expire, a lot of the sweeps you've already entered won't be done for weeks or months, and even once they end, sponsors like to take their time notifying winners, drawing second chance winners if the first round of notifications flopped, "handling" the prizes, and shipping the prizes. It could be anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months after a sweep ends before the actual prize shows up. This is a patience game.

Some sponsors don't notify, you may have already won and won't know it til something shows up in the mail.

Hi, I've got a question--does it increase your odds of winning if you select the option to receive their emails?

Signing up for newsletters DOES NOT increase your chances of winning. The only time that it would is if you receive an extra entry for signing up (alot of blog contests use this). Also although it does not increase your chances, some sweeps will require you to sign up for their newsletter to enter.

As judge noted, unless there is an asterisk { * } denoting something is required, it will not affect your chances of winning.

However - some sponsors will provide private links to enter special promos, or even 1x use codes via their newsletters, so pay attention to the comments and after awhile, you'll know which ones to sign up for!

Did you start sweeping convinced that you *would* win?

I ask because I'm convinced a good/positive attitude is essential for a sweeper.

I know I about went nuts my first 6 months seeing people winning left and right, sometimes the same people over and over for specific IW's, and I couldn't hit a thing. I allowed myself to get bitter and suspicious, which almost ruined sweeping for me.

When I finally realized it was all in the timing/luck of the draw, my attitude changed, I stopped looking inward and looked outward, helping others where I could, and I finally won! It was on an IW where you wrote a review, and someone asked if we'd help her family owned business. My focus was so intently on helping her out, I was shocked when it said congratulations!!!

This experience changed my attitude, and saved my hobby - and I came up with:

The Sweeper's Credo:

Enter and forget it.

Always be happy for those who win - even when they win "your" prize - and be positive you will win.

Sweeping is a hobby that is all about timing. Especially for those elusive instants! IF you enter at the exact right moment, you will win.

If not? Sad to say you won't. But I assure you - it's nothing personal, and those who win a lot don't have any "secrets" - they are just consistent, persistent, and patient.

I really believe that if you go into it thinking you can't win, well, you'll MAKE yourself right so often you'll start believing it!!!

I truly do believe you have to have a positive attitude - don't get hung up on what others are doing - just focus on entering, then move on to something else - like posting so we can get to know you!!!

So hang in there - and enter, enter, enter - and you'll be posting a win before you know it!!! And remember - every day brings new opportunities to win!!!

I'm getting frustrated! Trying not to, but it's difficult. I have been sweeping for more than a year - off and on as time allows. I figure that I have CONSERVATIVELY entered 12,000 sweeps. I have tried to enter a variety of them from instant wins, to daily entry, to one time entry. Seriously, the only wins I've had have been a few instant wins for candy, a hat, some rug cleaner and a $5 gift card. This is largely the sum total! I have tried to follow all of the suggestions by playing at different times, making sure my info is correct, checking my spam folder, etc. I just can't seem to muster a win. I don't need some thing big like a car - not that I don't enter those! In fact, I only enter for things that I would actually like to win, which is mostly smaller stuff like blenders, coupons, grills, washers, and the like. No phone calls telling me I'm a potential winner, no fun surprises in the mailbox. Nothing!

I guess I could use some encouragement :3 some: and advise. I don't want to whine, but if someone has some suggestions, I'm all ears...
Thanks. Lisa

For some reason, there are some who don't win much/often, while others seem to win all the time. :crazytongue:

But, of those who seem to win a lot? You'll see them post they don't win like they used to, while someone else will start winning a lot - my point is that it seems to be cyclic, and while there is no rhyme or reason to it, when you catch a cycle, you know it!

When you don't? You know it then, too.

The only thing I'd suggest is contradictory - take a break of at least a day, a week or more if you can stand it, then start back up.

OR - open your horizons and expand what you enter - if a sweeps has 15 different prizes, and you only like/want to win 2 of them, enter it anyway. The odds of you winning what you aren't interested in are small, but it puts your name in more hats, increasing the possibly that you will win from something!

And as always, remember to appreciate the positive, and don't let the negative pull you under!!!

 Love your attitude.I being recently "disabled',retired have time on my hand's.I Am pleased to find this one site for entering all the various sweep's.Dream Big is my motto along with You cannot win if NOT entered.
If I donot Win,May You.
Sincerely,
