my turn to whine

I can't remeber if there is a whiners wall anymore..if so, I didn't see it..but it has been a rough year of sweeps for me..put in the time....enter everything... I get a lil something now and then...mostly Kmart points..which mine is closing..not much left in store and no others...have to use my sweeps points online I guess..some goodreads books..even those are to win now...so..thanks for letting me whine...I have no pressing family issues or anything..I just used to win all the time...there were a lot of better sweeps..first 3 years I had way too many t-shirts!! That was fun!! So, I hope..after 8 years of sweeping that i can one day be a grand prize winner...I can hope!!

I hear you! I haven't had much luck the past few years either, just small wins. It does seem like there are less good sweeps to enter lately. There used to be a lot more, especially close to the holidays as we are now. I've been sweeping for about 9 years. My biggest win was a trip to Barbados and that was the first year I started entering sweepstakes. Wishing better luck for both of us!

It took me 6 years of daily entering to hit a biggie {$10,000} and I was so hoping that 2016 would be when I hit big again, but so far, it's been a slow year!

After the recession hit I was surprised there were any big ticket sweeps offered!

AFAIK, we haven't "bounced back" yet - just been bumping along the bottom - so it seems there are less sweeps to enter but IMO there are just fewer I'd like to enter for :p

Try "reply with quote". Even if you don't really want to reply, you can read the original poster's post as it will show up in correct form, not the 2 letters per line.

Hey thanks for the tip!!! That works...Hopefully it will get straightened out at some point...Must just be you and I having this issue with the word warp!!!

You're absolutely correct - the amount of good sweepstakes to enter has dramatically declined. By far most of the sweepstakes I see posted are 'garbage' sweeps, no offense intended to those entering them. By that I mean sweeps offering prizes less than $100 or for just junk. I started entering sweepstakes in August 2010 and I maintain a spreadsheet of all my significant wins, and my win rate has seriously declined in the past few years, simply because I will not enter garbage sweeps and there are so many fewer good sweeps. Long ago I determined that the time entering garbage sweeps wasn't worth it - I've got better things to do with my life than spend the time entering to win (for example) a beer koosie or a T-shirt (really???).

Your topic is very timely - I've been debating whether to just pull the plug on entering sweeps. In the 'good old days', it would take me 2.5 hours to enter the daily, weekly, monthly and other sweeps and to find new sweeps to enter. Now it takes me less than an hour. So my opinion isn't just subjective - I'm also a retired programmer analyst so I am very familiar with time management and I track it.

As to the cause: I think the win rate is down for everyone for 2 reasons. The first of course is that so many fewer quality sweeps are being offered, and that's because the economy sucks and companies are not as free-wheeling as they once were. One of the primary reasons companies offer sweeps is to engage the consumer to buy their product, but if the consumer doesn't have the money to spend they won't, hence removing the company's incentive to offer sweepstakes. I read the other day that 70% of Americans has less than $1,000 in their savings account and 40% have saved NOTHING for retirement - it's not rocket science to figure out why they aren't spending.

The second reason for the lower reason is because I think there are far more people entering online sweepstakes. As to why, it could be that with so many people no longer even looking for jobs they're staying at home now and have the time to enter sweeps (I'm retired - lol).

I see people posting multiple trip wins and big prizes...what can they possibly be doing that I'm not..lol?? Like they joined 4 years ago and it's their 6th trip win..wth..or this is my second car win.Yes..the sweeps are NOT as good anymore, the prizes are not as good anymore. I try to do the instants and the one entry's at least...not so diligent with the dailies tho..oh well..keep trudging on I guess!

not an analyst but I have observed that those who win a biggie fairly soon after starting [and that stick w/entering] and win another biggie in a year or less will *usually* win at *least* 1 biggie a year thereafter

That's why I'm kinda bummed - it took me 6 years of diligent, daily, usually all day long entering off & on to hit my biggie of $10,000 6 years ago so I was hoping it was my turn again but the year is almost over :p

I think reminding myself of the sweepers credo is how I keep my positive attitude, and my sanity.

Ha! Well, I have more confirmation of the fewer sweeps being offered. I maintain my own folder of sweepstakes bookings so I can track what I've entered in my own inimitable way (lol). That means sweeps I enter only once and the others that I enter more than once. While sweeps can end on any given day, they most often end on the final day of a month. Every day after completing my entries I delete all the bookmarked sweeps links as well as my Roboform logins with that day's date (I prefix all entries with YY-MM-DD). And on the final day, like today, I always count the bookmarked links before I delete them and I'd often find between 150 to 200 or so sweeps. Today I found exactly 87, about half of what I used to see. I have not changed my standards of what sweeps to enter.

I am so close to quitting but on the other hand since it doesn't take up as much as my time now I should just keep on, hoping to hit that new car or big cash prize. And I multi-task, too, by listening to news or interesting stuff on Youtube and today I'm using a dedicated scanner (again) to digitize old photos so I can get them saved and identified on my computer. Still ... :-)

kcmoviebuff - hello much better at it than me fellow Type A!!! :p:cool:

Have you also observed the waxing & waning of winter sweeps? That's where the biggest hit is IMO - Christmas sweeps with tons of daily/weekly/IW prizes used to be ubiquitous & now it's almost dead at the end of the year!

As to quitting? I take breaks of 1-3 days to see if I can reset my timing when it gets really bad, or, I stop multi-tasking and focus exclusively on entering/looking for new sweeps to enter & it usually works.

Yes..and you all are Plus Members too...paid for less sweeps??? That's why I haven't done so yet..seems there is a LOT less now for some reason. I have lost a few features on here since joining in 2008...not really fair since I was a member before they changes all the rules...should have been grandfathered in. Can't access expiring sweeps for this reason. But like I said..WAY less sweeps lately it seems anyway. I'd MAYBE pay $20 a year..not no $40 to win koozies and coupons.

I think that's where the confusion is - PLUS is for the tools, not for access to sweeps, because you can access them all, you just can't use the site tools to save them unless you are PLUS
