Ethics?

When I get to enter I enter for me ~ if it is a child's sweeps I enter for one of my kids if they fall into the age catagory...I don't have time to enter for me and everyone else, and I don't worry about anyone else that does and wins. I am glad for anyone on SA that wins. I don't get to enter like I should, so I am glad that someone on this site is winning these great prizes!!

When I do get to enter, I try to enter things that spark my interest ~ trips that I know I could afford to pay the taxes on ~ lol! Things to help around the house, stuff for the kids, and gift cards or cash. I get to enter so few lately that I have been treating the dailies like one time entries, and the same with IW's ~ I am so looking forward to being able to get back to this as a hobby!!

To each his own and good luck to all!

Hey Churchy! You do realize that Michael(gorgor) is gay, right?

Be back later. I have a few kittens to sacrifice while I'm shootin' up, beatin' the queers, and making out with mother's lesbian roomie, Gail. I also gotta make a run to the store since the boys got into my beer and smokes again. We caught the little brats huffin' gas, flipping off little old ladies, and pissin' in the neighbor's japanese goldfish pond last week!

The question is what do you consider ethical in sweepstakes entering. It is not about who you are or your beliefs. It is not about attacking a person. It is not about why a person does not want that prize in their house.

Gays: I have always said I hate sin not the sinner. I have had gay friends only and would never do anything to hurt one nor would I jump out of my seat at the movies and run from one. Anyone who says I hate gay people is a troublemaker.

Condone: I cannot have in my home or other personal areas those prizes or thing that condone something I do not approve, find repulsive, viiolates religious beliefs, etc. I cannot condone paganism so those items do not come in my house. I cannot condone Harry Potter so that does come in the house.

Gay Prizes: Some people say I hate gays because I do not want gay prizes in my house. Actually why should I have in my house an item I do not want and have no use for. I would not be happy on a gay cruise or at a gay ball. I learned my lesson after winning tickets to a gay ball in Chicago. First off why take prizes from people who would enjoy them more and secondly why spend my time trying to win a prize I have no use for or do not want.

Other Prizes: I do not smoke or drink. For religious and moral reasons as well as health I say no. I will not have any booze or tobacco prizes or items in my house. Joe camel sweepstakes shirts are gone. I do have a few Anhauser Busch items that are related to the clydesdales and SeaWorld but they are not directly booze related.

I do not want nor do I buy anything in my house that is not in the Latin Alphabet AND which I do not have a translation. It could say "vote for bush" in russian as far as I know.

I do not want sado masochistic toys in my house.

I do not want or need some health equipment like a home sauna, gym equipment, and pools. Building codes or me bad knees.

I do not want bikinis and hot pants. Why go for clothes I cannot wear and for whom I do not know of who can wear the prize let alone would wear it. If it goes in the trash or goodwill then it is not a prize for me.

I do not want some trips. I cannot afford airfare nor do I know someone who would pay me the airfare and transportation in order to use the prize. I cannot go on a biking trip, do not have interest in old Greek ruins, no gay trips, no pub crawls, no wine tours, and no tours where I HAVE to gold, scuba dive or participate in other sports.

No to many media as I do not have a DVD player, do not like most music and am not interested in going to a Miley Cyrus contest.
================================================

It is my viewpoint that there are so many prizes that I should spend what time I have on going for the easy prizes I can use or on the big prize I can use. Donatiing to charity is fine. Dumping in the trash or goodwill bin is wrong. The sponsors are hoping people will use the prizes and enjoy them. They do not have to give out prizes. I talk about my candy wins and my applesauce wins. I got too much with them and shared them to charity and friends. A lot of people were happy with my KFC win. Who though will be happy if I win a DVD for a movie I will never watch?

We enter for whatever we qualify for including smokers sweeps because, I am the smoker in my household. Before anyone goes, hmmmmm I smoke outside and not around my kids or family. Why should they suffer from my habit? So, anyone with those unwanted coupons, send em my way!

Anyways, if you qualify then by all means enter! You will find that everyone has their own sweeping ethics. Yes, there have been a few I didn't qualify and entered, I admit it but, I rarely ever do it. I don't want to get DQ'd. I think we all have/do at one time or another.

Some people have a problem with those selling wins, some have problems if you enter and turn down a prize because, you want another prize in the tier (They don't think you should enter at all, whatever! I think those people are full of it if they say they don't)....there will always be a sweeper somewhere that don't agree with the way you sweep or how you handle things. I personally think they should spend more time sweeping than police other people.

As for cheaters? They suck but, thats another thread another day.

Good luck to you!!

This sort of topic has come up before. It generally ends up in an argument when someone with a looser interpretation of the Rules offends someone with a more rigid definition. SA posts the sweep links and the Rules. How you choose to interpret them is up to you. Please respect that others may not agree with you.

To repeat what I said earlier...

No one wants to police or delete threads, but our main purpose in visiting here is sweeping, right? As soon as we digress into ethics, politics, religion, personal standards, whatever, we're going to find people who disagree with us. It is very difficult to honestly express yourself on these topics without hitting someone else's buttons. Please think before you post. Personal attacks on other SA members are not appropriate. If this thread gets any meaner, it will disappear. And none of you will get any dessert!

Wow, I am EXTREMELY sorry I started this post.....obviously it was not taken by some AT ALL how I intended it---I was in no way questioning peoples morals, or trying to say that I am somehow better than ANYONE....it was purely an innocent question and I in no way meant to stir up problems.......Ive only been sweeping a couple years in earnest and I was just wanting to find out peoples opinions about sticking to rules in general. In the future I will just keep questions or thoughts like that to myself....Im very sorry to anyone I offended.

You shouldn't feel sorry for starting this thread. You asked a legitimate question. You just have to understand that there may be some, for whatever reason, feel the need to stir the pot so to speak.

In those cases, ignore it and don't let it deter you from starting up any other topics.

Tour question is a very important and valid one. Every person at some time in their sweeping life will wonder if they should enter a contest. I stated how I feel, twice.

There aer some people who when you say "I do not like xxxx" immediately accuse you of hating any person who is xxxx or uses xxxx. I do not want bong pipes and other drug paraphanelia in my house. A few people will scream "you hate drug abusers". I do not hate black people just because I do not want a Black Pride t-shirt but some people would scream racist.

Your question lets people explain the joy of sweeping and how they sweep. Some will go for any prize and resell, gift, donate or trash what they do not want. Others like me us what resources they have on the prizes they need and or want.

big hugs for you and you should not be ashamed of the hate speech that came from your question. I hope the answers game some newer people some informaton on how to sweep.

I don't really mind the dog winning the guitar. The dog owner is a cool guy. Its just sort of funny, a dog winning a guitar. Reminds me of that Pink Floyd song, Seamus, with the dog howling along to Dave Gilmore. :headbang:
I also just read Sweephead's post as:
Until very recently, I didn't enter any sweeps for smokers because I don't smoke. But recently, I noticed that the contests are giving away Pot to non-smokers

I won this, and didn't inhale.

I do not enter any contest that has horoscopes, other religions, morally wrong, fur, tobacco, booze (state laws hrmps), gay, occult, satanism, hate speech, racists, or for brides or brides to be.

There are many sweeps so why should i try to win something I do not want in my house like tobacco, gay, horoscopes, and occult. Let others have their prizes and leave me the WDW dream trip and chocolates. You can have the gay cruise, the smoker of the month club, and the pub crawl across america prize while I will eat my chocolates and enjoy WDW. :headbang:

I put in for the gay cruises, gay hotel rooms, gay sponsors giving away stuff. I'm not gay, but would be happy and gay to win.

Our little gorgy is gay? I'm shocked, SHOCKED!

I really only enter the sweeps I am interested in and if I have won something I want then I normally won't enter again. For instance I won a guitar I don't enter again. I don't enter brides sweeps because I am not a bride. I also don't enter trips because I don't want to.

I think people will enter sweeps for many reasons and that's up to them as to how they feel about the sweep they enter. We are all going to be different on this one and that's to be expected.

I say to each his own and I won't worry about anyone else because I have enough to worry about on my own. I also can see both sides to the issue though and so I agree with everyone on this one. :)

I got a little concerned because Olivia Cruises was having some legal issues recently but fulfillment is an concern with any sweep, esp. considering current economic conditions. I still can't get over all the magazines going out of business
http://www.advocate.com/exclusive_detail_ektid52392.asp
Beyond the spectacle, the lawsuit has been a cause of concern for those who travel on Olivia's voyages. Numerous postings expressing worry about the future of the company and its financial health have appeared on Olivia.com message boards, particularly after the plaintiffs sought to force the company to dissolve in their initial filings.
My friend Gen enters for gay cruises, and swears she will pretend to be a lesbian if she wins. Which would be very funny and I want to see pictures
I fully respect each individual's decision to enter or not enter any sweep, based on their moral and religious beliefs. I know someone who will not enter Peta sweeps, for some very compelling moral reasons. And I can totally respect that.
