Ethics?

Im just curious about what everyone considers ethical when entering sweeps.....for instance, do you enter contests that are "for smokers only" even if you dont smoke? Ive noticed that there are some people who have no problem entering contest "for" people in their family, even if its actually a dog, and I kind of have to say I take issue with that since it seems to take the odds away from others who are entering "real people"

....what is the general consensus? (I like to think that the "sweep gods" smile more heavily on people who are trying to be completely honest with their entering efforts.)

**And as a side note, Im not trying to pick on anyone, I really dont want anyone to be offended by my question!***

I think the dog thing is just joking around. I don't get concerned over it. It's the sponsor's responsibility to make sure all the entries abide by the rules. Some rules do leave it open for one member of the family to enter for their spouse, etc., also. One of the winner's wife of the HGTV Dream Home stated that she entered for her husband. HGTV didn't have a problem with it. Some time ago, some people emailed ePrize regarding entering for others. They also had no problems with it as long as it still abided by the rules.

Well I once entered a "smokers" sweeps. And I'm not a smoker, I posted that I won. And got alot of comments about that. So I don't enter that sweeps anymore. Plus the fact that I keep getting smoker coupons and stuff in my mailbox. So that will teach me. lol.

I don't normally enter sweeps for other people. I do it once in a while. For Kailey my daughter, because shes only 5, she can't do it herself. And theres actually not many sweeps for 5 yearolds. And sometimes I enter for my mom, or l send her the sweeps email to enter. Shes a teacher, and during the year gets real busy.

This sort of topic has come up before. It generally ends up in an argument when someone with a looser interpretation of the Rules offends someone with a more rigid definition. SA posts the sweep links and the Rules. How you choose to interpret them is up to you. Please respect that others may not agree with you.

Well, I should clarify here that I DO enter contests for my husband and kids that I know they would like to enter but are not able to because of time contraints, etc....that isnt the thing I have a problem with...its more about entering contests "under false pretenses"---that was more the point. But as LIDARKSIDE noted, I guess its up for the sponsors to decide if the rules are being followed. I certainly dont want to sound like Im whining about any of this, I win plenty of things and dont really worry about my own personal winnings, I was just thinking of the sweeping population in general and wondering what everyone elses thoughts were....again, no fingers being pointed or judgements being made to anyone who might be reading this thread!

Until very recently, I didn't enter any sweeps for smokers because I don't smoke. But recently, I noticed that the contests are giving away iPods to non-smokers, so I put my entry in to win that. Just answering honestly is good enough for them.

Hmmmm....I have 5 cats, I hadn't even considered entering them

I don't really mind the dog winning the guitar. The dog owner is a cool guy. Its just sort of funny, a dog winning a guitar. Reminds me of that Pink Floyd song, Seamus, with the dog howling along to Dave Gilmore. :headbang:
I also just read Sweephead's post as:
Until very recently, I didn't enter any sweeps for smokers because I don't smoke. But recently, I noticed that the contests are giving away Pot to non-smokers

I do not enter any contest that has horoscopes, other religions, morally wrong, fur, tobacco, booze (state laws hrmps), gay, occult, satanism, hate speech, racists, or for brides or brides to be.

There are many sweeps so why should i try to win something I do not want in my house like tobacco, gay, horoscopes, and occult. Let others have their prizes and leave me the WDW dream trip and chocolates. You can have the gay cruise, the smoker of the month club, and the pub crawl across america prize while I will eat my chocolates and enjoy WDW. :headbang:

Hey, Churchie. I guess you haven't heard all that Disney is involved in. I thought most people knew about this stuff. For example, the satanist group, "Danzig", is signed to Disney's record company; and, since 1990, they celebrate "Gay Day" in the month of June.

Put in your search engine "Disney is anti-Christian" and read away. You're in for a big surprise!

Im not gay but It sure doesnt bother me if others are. to each their own. I dont drink but I enter booze sweeps too. Wow! I must be a real heathen.

I see we are into fallacies and not facts.

Based on what you say then I would have to stop using every bank, hospital, school, restaurant, and grocery store. OMG we must stop using grocery stores because racist and skinhead buy from them. Wife beaters shop at sears so let us stop buying there. Rapist shop as Wal-Mart and animal abusers eat at famous restaurants.

Grow up. Stop with the fallacies. I stated how I choose contests to enter.
. Leave me alone and when you grow up and I am not tired and sleepy and hungry and hurting then i will explain what I said.

Glenn Danzig has repeatedly said he is not a satanist. They have lyrics that are darker than some but that doesnt make them satanist.

people should be able to have a discussion without resorting to name calling.. I have removed it...

You can actually make out what they're singing?

...or are you cheating and looking up the lyrics?

I sooooo cheated. Im usually pretty good at understanding what bands like that are saying since I listen to that kind of music but this band.. sounds cool... what IS he saying?

People who worry about what sweeps, how many sweeps, and how I enter sweeps irritate me to no end. (NOT referring to OP) I'm completely in agreement with dark on this one. The sponsors decide what the rules are, period. Who am I to decide what is morally correct in entering sweeps? I can only do the best I can with the rules as they are listed, and do what I think is correct. It is not my place to tell other's how to enter, which sweeps they can enter, and who they can enter....I'm not the sponsor.

I personally don't care if someone is entering their dog, grandma, whatever. If the sponsor's don't take the time to weed out the cheaters, then shame on them. Something like this was thrown at me not to long ago. They may as well have gone ahead and called me a cheater, because I feel like that is what they were insinuating.

Yes, I enter for my husband, and have never made a secret of it. If it's a child's sweep, then I will enter my child. Eprize has said that they have no problem with it, so why do other's? If it's only 1x per household, then I only enter one person. I enter tobacco sweeps, wedding sweeps if the rules allow(*GASP* and I'm already married!), religious sweeps, or basically any sweeps that interest me. Honestly, if some folks put half the energy into entering their own sweeps, instead of worrying about what the other person is doing, then they would win more.

As everyone here knows, I'm BIG on following the rules. I always assume people don't intentionally break them, just that they aren't aware, so I post the limits.

What they choose to do with that info is ultimately up to THEM. NOT my job to police them, that's up to the sponsors/JA's.

Sweeping is a unique hobby, where we get to share our triumphs - I've never understood how winning by not following the rules was desirable.

As far as entering for what YOU want to win? If the rules allow it, why not? Again, NOT up to me to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't try to win!!!

Bottom line - follow the rules. Anything else you choose to do/not do is YOUR decision!!!

And Bunny? I hear ya - people make assumptions about me too - but don't let it get to you!!!
