Unsubscribing after entering a sweeps

I just started sweeping and I've been unsubscribing from e-mail lists right after I enter and receive the confirmation e-mail but I'm worried that if I unsubscribe that I won't receive an e-mail if I actually win. Should I wait until after the contest ends to unsubscribe or should I be ok if I do it?

bmettlerwins - it depends on the sweeps/sponsor - some will require subscribing & you will have to stay subscribed long after the sweeps ended when the winner drawn

Some sponsors [usually small businesses] will not allow you to *ever* re-subscribe if you unsubscribe

Rule of thumb: be choosy & and pay attention to which require subscribing

What I always subscribe to; Tobacco {Camel/Marlboro} & big sites like COKE for special codes/links

Hello and a question about e-mailing lists

Opting out of newsletters?

Do you need to sign up for newsletters

Does registering for their emails increase chances?

Good point - but they too have to conform to their own rules, so if they don't require you to accept their newsletter, they can't DQ you if you don't subscribe.

Another thing I thought of - some sweeps, buried in their rules, will state you have to stay subscribed to their newsletter or TWITTER page and/or continue to LIKE their FB page long after the sweeps ends to be eligible.

Like the sweeps ends 4/30/12, but they don't draw/confirm for weeks/months, so don't unsubscribe at the end date!

I generally don't bother to unsubscribe from e-mail lists unless I find the content to be offensive. As Amy says - sometimes unsubscribing too early will disqualify you. Also, I've found that as a sweeper it's probable that you're going to eventually get 100+ spam e-mails a day no matter what you do. Get on one wrong list and it's basically unfixable. lol + some of the lists seem to take you off themselves if you haven't opened one of their e-mails in long enough... I've gotten notices about that before.

For *known* spam [ie you did not subscribe to their newsletter] do NOT open their emails or click UNsubscribe - you just confirm that your addy is live to them!

What I do? Even for emails I expect, I always right click>Open in PROPERTIES to confirm it's legit [came from who it says not from some edu.com or whatever addy] and if it isn't legit, I report it as JUNK to my ISP & block that addy.

btw - sometimes when you unsubscribe to legit co's, they will send a follow up that you MUST click to confirm you unsubscribed - if you don't, you will continue to get their emails!

You mentioned subscribing to tobacco sites. Don't they limit their sweeps to users as in smokers? or can I check the box that asks if you smoke even if I don't?

generalwizard - Most sponsors run sweepstakes promotions in lieu of/in addition to regular advertising so they will target future and/or try to keep current customers happy
OR, they will limit their promos for current customers {SPRINT/etc} only.

Because of the war on tobacco, to protect the children, Tobacco Site(s) are different in the sense that Tobacco sponsors are required by LAW to verify our SSN#
so we have to essentially swear out an affidavit that we use tobacco when we supply our SSN to enter ANY tobacco sweeps.
