We're very particular about what we want to live in, and we're not to crazy about the houses down there especially being in association communities.
We told the realtors that we want at least an acre already engineered outside communities, away from water, and where we can put in a full-size basement.
I'm not a fan of stucco, and many of the houses seem to have been built as cheaply as possible.
We want to put up a log house with wood flooring and tile. I hate wall-to-wall carpenting! :nono: :laughing:
So, we're going to spend a couple of days of our vacation looking at property. We might even rent while we're building.

I know what you mean we moved here 7 years ago when husbands job downsized, we went from a 21 room house with a full basement that was finished with bedrooms and gameroom, 3 car garage, jacuzzi on almost 3 acres no neighbors for half mile to florida living in a 8 room cement block house no garage and husband barely making ends meet.
But poor its still better then the cold and snow.
there are parts of davenport good and bad.
they are building up very fast. new stores came in where the old baseball city use to be.
near heartland hospital they have land for sale if that helps you.
have fun when here don't spend it doing all work.

We live by the Hamptons, and it's just impossible to afford to live out. We have a tiny little 1,100 sq. ft. house that was just appraised at $530,000. That's absolutely insane.
So, we're upscaling. We're looking to go around 3,000 sq. ft. I was also used to living in a much bigger house. Now, when all my children are in this house at the same time, it's absolutely insane. There's no escape (six of us in all)!

Plus, I miss having a huge kitchen.

I know what you mean about the kitchen.
There is only the four of us here, my spouse my 16 and 12 year old kids, the rest of our family, daughter and her family, son and his family had his first child in sept, my mother and Sibley's and my husbands mother and Sibley's all live 1200 miles away from us so it gets lonely.
Even more so at holidays, and since I'm unemployed I spend my time entering contest to provide my huge family with gifts. We moved here and bought a hud house worst mistake of our lives it has become a money pit and we have no way of getting out without taking a huge loss and husbands job is wasting his time as he can't move up and his degree is worthless because he can't find employment in his field.
