Won a prize that I don't really want, what should I do ?

Don't foget about your local childrens hospitals. We have St Judes just down the street and they love getting donations like this. The children in the hospital can use them or their siblings staying at the Ronald McDonal house can enjoy them as well.

I can't believe I've never thought of this. Thank you. I've got a bundle of stuff some kids would love, now I know what I'm going to do with them.

Hi,
I got a notification that my daughter won a SECOND PRIZE--a Maya & Miguel DVD from the
Maya & Miguel's Latin Fun Fiesta Sweepstakes. I was trying to win the trip. They want me to send in an affidaft within 14 days or they will select a new winner. My daughter doesn't want the prize and the ARV is $9.99 . Would it be rude for me to email them and say that we don't want it? Or should I just let the 14 days expire?
What do you do when you win something that you really didn't want?

Thanks for any advice
Sandy

 skstigger

I do just the opposite - I enter for the lower tier prizes - but I totally understand your dillema!!!

Gifting would be wonderful if you could accept the prize, but don't feel bad if you can't/don't want to!!!

The only bummer on this one?

After Sponsor's reasonable attempt to award prizes, any unclaimed prizes will not be awarded,

BUT:

and Sponsor may, in its discretion, elect to donate such prizes to charity.

Just a FYI - I have NOT returned the affy on small prizes (I have to pay at least $5 to get something notarized) and they sent them anyway

That just seems a little ungrateful to me.... I wouldn't decline a prize just because I wasn't a Grand Prize winner in that Sweepstake..... I'd be happy to have just won something from any sweep even if it wasn't the one I "really" wanted to win...

It's not ungrateful. Why would you take a prize you're not going to use? I understand the "I'm just happy to win" approach, but if it means filling your house with clutter or taking prizes that may otherwise go to people who will use them, I don't see why it's even an issue for a person to thank the sponsor, politely decline the win, and move on.

Love,
Laura, the person who didn't have a chance to decline the three ballcaps and the NFL playbook that is currently in her "Goodwill box"

it's called "giving it to someone YOU may know who might want it"... there's a thought... or like the others said.. give it to some local charity around your neighborhood?? Just another thought...

I do that, as well - that's why the three ballcaps and the NFL book are in my goodwill box.

There are some sweeps I enter (especially the kid and baby stuff) that I enter specifically because there's a charity I give to that helps single moms and their kids - if I get anything that can help them, it goes straight there. They also say that foster families are often forgotten in terms of charity, so I highly encourage anyone who wins anything like this to consider passing it on to foster family organizations and orphanages, if they can't use it themselves.
