windows update daily

First of all, I'd like to thank Amy for all the help she's given me. You're a doll! You know the windows update icon keeps popping up daily. When I go to the windows update page, a listing shows old, 2008-2011, updates that windows wants me to download, is this necessary? I don't want to load my memory with updates, so I download only the most current ones. Am I doing the right thing? Since it's so annoying, I'd like to turn updates off completely. Only showing old updates that I never downloaded, but then won't catch the newer ones.

Updates are very important - it will tell you if they are optional {I right click and hide those if I don't want them} or important.

Since they are usually stand alone, if you get newer updates, you won't get the old ones, unless they issue a cumulative update for new installers, like they did with SP1 & SP2 years back.

You control how & when - go through the menu and select on or off for automatic updating, but if you turn it off, do not forget to check!
