I got an e-mail stating that my story was chosen as a winner and that I would be receiving prizes valued at $100 which include a $50 1-tune giftcard, 6 week supply of
Skinny Cow Frozen Treats (coupons) and a pedometer.Yahoo......
However, I am a bit apprehesive because included in the e-mail were attachments I need to fill out and send back to get my prizes including an affy that asks for my ss number and a W-9 form that asks for my SS number. I have never had to fill out anything in the past for prizes that were under $600. What about you guys? Does this sound unconventional to you?
Thanks, I love and support all of you and SA is beyond the best....thanks SA

One time I won a book and a cd or something just as minor, I don't remember for sure now. They also wanted me to send my SS#. I called them and told them I didn't feel comfortable giving them that much info for such a small $ amt win. They said the form was a standard form they use for everything but I did not have to send in my SS# considering the $ value of the prize. So my advice would be to call or email and ask if it is really necessary, considering the prize value, that you provide your SS#. If they say it is then you will just have to decide it you want to decline the prize or provide the info. I would have declined the book and cd if I was told it was necessary. Good luck

:sunny: colleenjudge is giving you good advise. It really depends on how bad you want the prize. I am assuming that since they already told you that they would be requiring a W9 that they will need a SS#. Which means it will be reported to the IRS.
Congratulations on winning, hope it all works out for you.

Many times you will be required to give your SS# even for a small prize. Sponsors/JA's are required to issue a 1099 when the cumulative amount they have paid you totals fore than $600 p/yr not per sweep.

I do it all the time. The IRS only requires a sponsor make out a 1099 for $600.00+ in prizes. However, the sponsor can make out a 1099 on any smaller prize at their discretion.
