Wife Swap

I admit to watching it even though I am not a fan of reality TV....They were just over the top! Their entire life seemed to revolve around sweeping and even the kids had to go around picking up trash in case something had a code or sweep on it. I felt sorry for the kids.

But the couples' sweeping seemed to be just the beginning of that train wreck - the family had alot of issues anyway. But the show did make sweepers look pretty lame. The dad was just a complete jerk and the mom was out of her mind.....oh and I couldn't find my remote afterwards so I was stuck watching Supernanny.

Ugh.

But to be fair, the family they swapped with wasn't all that better either.

Oh boy I watched this one too tonight. Wow what a nut and I mean the husband. Getting things in the mail is fun for anyone but seeing him act that way was repulsive. I can't believe they made their children pick up used bottle caps when some could have diseases (you know what I am talking about). Plus like someone else said I didn't see them win much but some gum and magazines. Yuck lol

I watched the show tonight, I wasn't impressed... I thought that they were quite weird and didn't portray an accurate portrait for what I personally do as a "sweeper". I don't act like that when the UPS truck stops (or doesn't) I mean I do get excited but I don't act like they forgot where I live and I don't feel like I am obsessed. If I go on vacation or somewhere that doesn't have internet access for a few days, I don't die because I can't enter... AND I CERTAINLY DON'T MAKE MY GROCERY LIST BY CONTESTS OR SEARCH THE STREETS FOR BOTTLE CAPS! (OR MAKE MY KIDS DO IT EITHER)

I watched this show and this couple is going above and beyond with the sweeping - it is fine if they want to do it, but to MAKE their children go out and collect garbage is wrong. I sweep about 4 hours a day - must be slow at it - and i think of it as a part time job. I only do online sweeps and have never went to the grocery store just to buy items to mail in a sweeps on. - If you would end up buying the stuff not on sale, it could cost you more than it is worth. My mom used to fill out the forms for free stuff with a upc code and mail it off. I did at first when I left home, but it was just to much work and found myself with too many empty folded boxes being stored, as at that time the upc codes were just really coming out and sometimes they wanted the upc and other the box label or net weight cut out or all 3. so i stopped doing it - same as with coupons - I saved a lot of money with them, but found it really time consuming for what was being saved - with 3 babies at the time it really got to be a chore - but i very seldom ever buy anything that is not on sale and i buy in bulk - if they have tomato sauce on sale for a good price, i will buy a case of it same with butter - they put it on sale at a good price about twice a year - i just though it in the freezer - keeps great. but i love the internet sweeping, but i do not expect anyone else in the house to do it - i have tried telling my oldest daughter to do it as she has enough free time on her hands and could use the extras in life this provides - she does do some, but is not nearly as dedicated as I am. the sweeping has given us a trip to Montreal that we never would have done otherwise. So I will keep on doing them. Hoping for the next win. Even the hubby thinks it is fun to see if the mail, ups or fed ex show up with "presents" - more so after he won 2 sprite cards for $100 and i have know idea where the collector Fram dragster showed up from, but we are big NHRA fans and it fit right with the collection of other racing items we have. I love sweeping!!!!

Well I'm glad all of my friends were at a Christmas party with me - hope no one taped it - I'd hate for them to think we are like what I've read described here! Of course, most of them have asked how much time I spend sweeping (under 2 hours a day) and they know what I've won recently.

Still, I'm sure these shows edit out the normal stuff and leave in the weird off-hand comments. Like, in our family, my son loved when he was younger to tell people "my parents are vegetarians so we don't have turkey for Thanksgiving". What he failed to mention was that (1) he doesn't really like turkey and (2) I always offer to cook him whatever he wants (ham slice, turkey leg, etc.) and he usually picks hamburger! He just liked the reaction he got from people!

But the show did make sweepers look pretty lame.
Good, we don't need more competition, do we? :)

Well I watched the train wreck and it was pretty much what I expected....but it does put sweepers in a bad light. I'm nothing like that!! I was waiting to hear about some of the big stuff they've won but never heard it mentioned. I think DVD's were their big wins.

I don't think any of us "normal" sweepers go digging in trash....yuck. If I happen to see a code in the store for something I need, I'll buy it, but to separate in the grocery store and have the family looking for codes is crazy! They really are obsessed.

So I'm curious to see the comments on this at the "other" site...would someone be so kind to PM me and let me know what site that is? don't worry, I won't stay long - just want to see the forum comments on the show. I'll always stay with SA

mtejen

I just sent a pm

Beat you to it! :crazytongue: :crazytongue: :crazytongue: :crazytongue:

You know, even though there are some harsh remarks there, the majority of those members are very protective of their fellow "committed" members.

 I had a good laugh watching it. Talk about obsessive! Why on earth would anyone buy a bunch of stuff they can't use to enter codes? They certainly didn't make it look like sweeping was anything a normal person would do. I felt so bad for that lady's older girls being treated like slaves to the younger girls and being emotionally abused by that step-dad. What a big jerk!

I wonder if this woman is of the mentality to now feel embarrassment over doing this show and regret for having made an announcement about it in a public forum.

Somehow I doubt it or she wouldn't have been on there in the first place!

Well don't ask how I know () but I can tell you she hasn't posted anything on that site since last Tuesday. She's been online, just not posting or commenting.

Quite frankly, I would have left the country! :crazytongue:

Lord help us if all the people on other sites who routinely call DSS record this show and include it with their complaint packets ("Dear Child Protective services, here is a typical family of sweepers")

Oh dear Lord! That one didn't even cross my mind, but I do remember some of the crazy things "those" people admitted to over there. Definitely, alot of people who have no business being a parent.
