whatcha cooking for thanksgiving?

I will probably do ham since we always have turkey at xmas. I love thanksgiving. Get to pig out. :popcorn: we usually have ham, green beans, mashed pototes, rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, deviled eggs... I know im forgetting something. :laughing:

Do you do anything special?
 
fake turkey (Worthington brand, not Tofurky, which is kind of gross)
fruit stuffing (uses raisin bread and cranberries)
roasted asparagus
mashed potatoes
olives
crescent rolls
pumpkin pie

I think that's the typical menu.
 
i am going to my church cause i have empty nest syndrome and im lonely. both children are in another state wi and ma. i plan on baking three pies and all the lonely people will bring a dish/ church is furnishing the turkey. i just want a traditional thanksgiving dinner. my sister always does lasagna for thanksgiving. what ever happened to loyalty to the big bird duh.
 
Starters (shrimp cocktail and some other sort of finger food)
Turkey
Sausage Stuffing (fruit and nuts need not apply)
Mashed Potatoes (made with cream, butter, salt, and pepper)
Gravy (no giblets, they go into the garbage)
Corn
Peas
Baked Ziti
Macaroni and Cheese
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Ice Cream and Whipped Cream to go with the pie

I may also make some other type of dessert like brownies.
 
We are doing:

Turkey (smoked on the bbq w/hicorky chips)
Brown Surgar glazed Ham
Sour Cream/Onion Scalloped potatoes (we're sick of mashed)
Sauage Stuffing
Homemade Mac&cheese
Butter Rolls
Ham Hocks
Collard Greens
Red Beans & Rice
Homemade Peach Cobbler
Homemade Sweet Potatoe Pie
Wine Cake

My nephew bought a couple things to help with thanksgiving and I'll pick up the rest before I leave on my trip.

Turkey
Ham
Mashed potatoes
Cranberry sauce
rolls
veggies
Devil eggs
pie

and not sure what else, dh is frying the turkey.

welcome to the forums 6008. :wave: Hopefully you can get with the children at xmas time. yeah lasagna isnt very thanksgiving.. :laughing: easier to cook though.
 
Nothing. Going out to eat. Kids are going to other places but I could go to any of you guys house though yummm.
 
I'm with Cin. We are going out this year. Thanksgiving Brunch at The Peabody and then a show at The Orpheum. I can't wait. Everybody gets to get all dressed up and I don't have to wash a single dish. Life is good!
 
my husband said last night he wanted to do a roast and some cornish game hens :scratch: ahhh, no!. :laughing: He really needs to stop watching the food network.
 
Well, I am fixing side dishes this year and desserts...gotta find my whole list also.

We have lunch with Jimmie's family and I am just taking desserts right now...

We have dinner with mine and I am taking mashed potatoes, corn, yeast roll, and a couple of desserts...this side of the family is so big that we have to have ours at the church now...not with any other dinner ~ just ours. No one in the family has a big enough space to put us all...we will also have a new baby by then ~ it is a great day watching all of the kids play together!

Cooking for 71 or 76 if my Sis and family come. 16 of them are David's immediate family. Dear god. lol

On the menu is (in multiples, of course)

Deep fried turkey

Virginia ham

Drunken duck (yes, Red, I will be lectured by my daughter about this!)

Thai pumpkin soup (it's baked in a pumpkin shell with coconut milk and other great ingredients)

stuffing (a really awesome recipe if anyone wants it. It's from my Mom and no it's NOT Asian! lol)

mashies

sweet potatoes

lots of homemade breads and desserts

and of course, spirits and lots of laughter

I have a massive Thanksgiving, rent tents, heaters, etc.

Everyone is required to bring at least enough for 10 people with the desserts/bread and we always hvae lots left over.

It started with my parents. My Mom would invitedpeople at my father work over who were single or divorced or elderly and a few of the neighbors. We always had about 30 people in the house.

Marrying David has made it a 'little' bigger of a party. lol
 
This is our first time hosting Thanksgiving at our house! I am trying some new recipes and some old standbys. Meals on Wheels salad is my favorite, and we always joke about our 'green salad' which is shredded cabbage, lime jello, pineapples, and a sauce of mayo/pineapple juice. It's actually delicious, but the greenness of it turns people off a bit...

Gorgor, I would love your stuffing recipe!

And, does anyone have a really great vegetarian or shrimp pasta recipe? My sister is vegetarian and I want to still have something great for her, but can't bring myself to do a tofurkey....

There is actually a place online you can buy tofurkeys from. I can't remember the name of it, but I see it every year and its supposedly really good.

I'll get my stuffing recipe after I finally sleep. :sleepy:
 
Tofurky is not bad and its easy to cook. We're having pheasant. Mom shot them last week, cleaned them and froze them. Stuff out of the yard is cheaper :)
