weird winning email notifications to look for

I received a winning email from sheknows.com and all it said in the subject box was "sheknows.com" I normally delete anything that does not say "Congratulations"; however, I accidently left that one in and thank goodness because I won eyelash conditioner.

This also has scam all over it:

I am new to the sweeps. How are winners notified that they have won? It seems that e-mails are likely but some have mentioned that there are winning e-mail with nothing in the subject line. How strange. Does anyone get a phone call these days? :sunny:

Thanks for sharing the tips, especially the known scam addresses. I try to be careful about what sites I visit/enter, but still receive LOTS of spam/junk email over the past few months. Have also picked up lots of viruses and spyware, despite up-to-date antivirus programs and cleaners. It's almost enough to keep me from Sweeping...

Almost!!

When I won $5,000 from AT&T I received an affy in my home mailbox...I just won an Omagazine giveaway and received a phone call.....All my other wins were in my email or just showed up at the door..

I have a suspicious email today: Dear customer.

The parcel was sent your home address.
And it will arrive within 3 business day.

More information and the tracking number are attached in document below.

Thank you.

Problem is there is an attachment. I will NOT open. If they want to send me a parcel, that is just fine, but I'm not opening attachments that could contain virus! This is also suspicious. There is a thread on these types of emails in our Reported Scams forum

http://www.sweepstakesplus.com/smf/fed-ex-t72439.0.html

one thing to do, if you aren't sure about an email being legitimate is open the "header" of the email, and find out the actual place it's coming from, copy and paste it into google and see if it's been reported as a scammer. I did that yesterday, because the email looked pretty legit, but as it turned out it was actually a scam. Just be careful of giving out information until you can confirm it's a real email

I have only been doing this a few weeks or less and I have gotten a lot of spam/scams from survey companies. Not sure what it's all about, but I do not want to do it.

Just adding that I said that about the surveys because they say something like "you have won a $500 gift card", but then they say you have to take surveys first and so many and different requirements...

I got a msg that I won a $100 gift card and I needed to call 877-327-9520 to verify. I called, gave them my name, phone # and address so they could send the gift card. He said he name was Nathan Gonzales and he was processing my winning entry. I repeatedly asked what contest I won and he didn't tell me. Then he said they just wanted $1.99 from ME to cover the gift card shipping. I said no and then he hung up. Totally irritating because I enter these $100 gift card contests all the time.

You did the right thing and hung up. He repeatedly avoided answering your question and asked you for money "to cover shipping" in order for you to receive your prize. Any reputable company can afford the .44 cents to mail a letter containing your Gift Card!

Has anybody ever heard of Snow Joe Plus? I entered this contest and they e-mailed that I may have won a snow thrower. They want me to send a copy of my drivers license and I just don't feel right doing that. The website exists and seems to be ok, but I just don't know.
Thanks for any help.
Dee

Wouldn't be the first time I've heard of people needing to provide a copy of their drivers license. I assume it's to prove their identity. If you have any doubts if the email is actually from the sponsor you can call and ask them at 1-866-SNOWJOE (766-9563)

Looks legit!! Congrats!!

This was on their Facebook Page...
