**Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

Ok I have a silly question. Do the companies consider vote requesting "cheating"? The only reason im asking is because someone left a comment on my contest video with a rtf link and now I am super terrified im going to get disqualified. In your experienced does this matter?

Re: Vote Requesting question

As in all things, you have to go to the rules of the one you are competing in - most sponsors will outline the do's & dont's.

Re: Vote Requesting question

It really depends on the contest. Is it person you can ask to delete their comment just so it won't concern you?

Re: Vote Requesting question

In my experience with voting contest, asking for votes on sites like this wasnt considered cheating (with most contest, cheating seems to apply to paying for votes or using bots to vote for you).

I did have one contest where I was disqualified for asking for votes, the rules in that contest were really oddly worded and it seemed to be the exception to the rule.

Re: Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

Aside from the rules specifically saying "vote trading or exchange" is not allowed (I was actually disqualified in one that specifically said that) LOL some sponsors will disqualify vote traders based solely on how many people write in and cry about it. I have seen this happen more than once.

So, in addition to the things others have said (which are very right), if you know there are other people in your contest that "trade" votes or may find you and your vote requests somehow, be aware that tattling may occur and then it is completely up in the air what the sponsor will do and you won't know until the judgement! I frequently check the sponsor's wall on Facebook to see if people are publicly complaining about vote trading...that usually will give it away. :)

The more people complain the more likely they are to investigate everyone's votes further and change the rules. That is *in* the rules, that they can change them whenever they please.

I WON ONE for $1000 that when the contest was over, I was 2nd ($500), but after they sent me an email saying "after review you were randomly selected"...this was a voting contest initially, not a random in any way.

Seeing this stuff leads me to believe that sometimes sponsors will just do whatever they want at the end, if there appears to be a problem.

Addressing yours, I had someone from here post their link on my page (and it was in THIS FORUM so I would be voting on it anyway) and the contest is still going, so I am like you. HOWEVER, one comment is likely not to change the whole outcome unless people are tattling, but I agree with PPs, is there a way you can ask them to delete? Click through their name and message them maybe?

TY briannimal

Since I've never entered a "vote for me" contest, I can only go by what I see posted.

Personally, I C&P all FB rules for sweeps I enter since they "poof" after it ends - if I did enter a vote contest, I'd make sure to not only study them, but save them, so if they did alter them, I'd know about it, and just *maybe* be able to contest their decision if they told me I was DQ'ed.

Re: Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

Definitely! I hadn't been doing that (well only sporadically) but I really need to and would recommend that too! You definitely can throw them a rebuttal if something were to happen...who knows what course would be taken, but it's worth a try!

Re: Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

I always make sure to read contest rules. The contest I'm in right now states that it's ok to to ask for votes as long as you aren't paying for them or giving something in return.

Re: Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

I don't think it's cheating... i personally don't like contests like this because there are people out there that have thousands of facebook friends, real or not, and somehow end up with hundreds of votes. I don't have that many FB friends since its my personal account, with REAL friends or family. I still enter because it's fun, but rarely/ if ever actually win them.

Right now I have a contest going in which members here are posting their RTF on my entry, I don't like this, because it doesn't look good. I don't know how to delete the comments, now I have someone commenting that I am cheating! Not a good feeling, and I don't know who to ask to take the comment off since we use different profile names.

 help, how can we change this so members don't make us look like we are cheating?

fssanchez - I have a post on this:

Amy Shulkusky; said:
re: COMMENTING when you VOTE;

VOTERS - the default is NO comments, just vote unless you are asked to comment.

If you are asking for votes and you DO want comments? Put it in your OP so voters will know.

If you have a 1x ask, keep track of who RTF's, so when you RTF, you don't include your C&P for those who already voted for you and then they won't keep posting they voted for your 1x.

But I think you guys have to say "NO comments on my entry, please only post here in my thread, thank you"

Re: Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

Thanks, I have to find out who is posting on my entry and hopefully they can delete their comments.

This guy is calling everyone a cheater.
There's almost no point to continue with this one the way it is. The rules only specify it has to be a VALID vote, which can be interpreted any way they want.

Re: Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

I'd hang tough - it's the sponsor who makes the final decision, not the whiner

Re: Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

Thanks! I found one of them, going to try and find the other so I can ask to remove.

Re: **Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

Reporting a competitor - my thoughts:

I'm of 2 minds on this.

I firmly believe policing is best left up to sponsors/JA's. However, if it was me? I'd be sorely temped to complain to the sponsor if I'd put in so much time and energy.

Sponsors hold these promos with their advertising budget to gain eyeballs, and hopefully, retain/gain customers, so while complaints *might* change the outcome in the short term, the long term damage could result in fewer/less promos by that sponsor/other sponsors.

I've watched sweeping evolve from snail to online, with P.O. boxes being banned because of a few unscrupulous people transitioning from rebates to sweeps, to captcha codes becoming ubiquitous online because of those unscrupulous people using bots to enter themselves with numerous email addys, to the explosion in voting promos being decided by popular vote, instead of being judged by the sponsors/JA's. I watched DELL hold annual Holiday sweeps with tons of wonderful prizes to DELL restricting and focusing {few} promos to targeted demographics, which exclude the majority of sweeping hobbyists.

I predict vote promos will continue, but the judging aspect will change to merit vs. popularity. IMHO, that's how winners should be determined!

Ultimately, you have to decide which is more important to you - playing a good, clean game, and hoping the sponsors/JA's do their job, or {possibly} creating dissension, cynicism, and doubt by reporting your suspicions to the sponsor/JA.

Re: **Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

I remember reading an article last year about a man being disqualified by a company for asking for votes from a forum. I don't understand that because most of them want you to post it to Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I guess it depends on the company. I'll try to find the article and post it.

Re: **Vote Requesting question - Do companies consider vote requesting "cheating"?

I agree with brianimal and some of the others. Read the rules for sure. I had one that said no "incentives can be offered in exchange for voting" so I added a caveat that said I was not offering anything in return but would appreciate the support. Of course, I still returned the votes;)

Some of you may recall that Strivectin one for $30,000. "Votes" are what counted but I ended up with 900 likes (300 likes more than 2nd place) and lost, though I'm pretty sure I led votes/vote consistency as well. I believe there was something going on behind the scenes and they refused to provide the final vote numbers to never found out. I'm a male and ended up with $500 of beauty products instead of the $30,000 but you guys on this board were awesome in your support, so thanks! BTW: I'm selling/trading some of those products via the sell/trade forum.

Thanks for posting this question about vote requesting. I asked Amy and others their opinion also in the past b/c rules aren't always clear!
