Tobacco Sweeps

I read an article recently on one of the news services that said less than 17% of adults now smoke.

Sweeping must be very stressful, which is causing sweepers to smoke for relief. Based on the posts in the Winner's Circle,
we sure appear to have far more than 17% of the membership entering the Tobacco sweeps.

Wonder what the total smoking membership is - - 25%, 50%, 75% or more? Whatever it is, it must be high to get the win numbers we're posting.

Who was the President who said he'd tried marijuana but never inhaled? Perhaps our smokers do that also, eh?

Light 'em up!

I'd say, based on my observation of BINGO & Casino halls, those of us who "gamble" tend to have a high % of smokers & sweepers gamble on a chance too.

That said? The same people who would never think to lie to say they are having a baby, are older/younger, own a business, are a customer of a cable company, or try to get around any other restrictions, somehow feel justified in entering sweeps for tobacco users.

Tobacco sweeps sponsors are required by LAW to verify our SSN# - you have to essentially swear out an affidavit that you use tobacco when you supply your SSN to enter ANY tobacco sweeps & IMO they are one of the most abused, but all we {sweepers} can do is hope our fellow sweepers will follow the rules and that the sponsors will enforce them, then enter & forget it.

IKR? I worked at a hall '91-'93 in Fla after getting bitten by the BINGO bug {won the final coverall of the night on I-19 for the big pot} in the USN in the late '80's

Moved here to Las Vegas, NV in '93 & discovered BINGO was mostly only an hour long, every other hour, with only 1 coverall! Boooooooooooring!

^^ You mentioned Bingo and great, now I want to go! lol!!!

There's a really great place here in SoCal that my boyfriend and I love. They play all types of games and you can play multiple packs at a time, for a total of just under 40 games for under $60. Basically 6 hours of bingo. All games pay at least $250, too. I love it! We're always the youngest ones there, but we have a great time and the people who run it are awesome. It's actually held at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, so all the money goes towards that. It's great.

Mendacity - - ( lack of honesty ) - - plus a host of other character descriptive words seem appropriate for those folks.

The only time I've heard that word was in the 1958 movie Cat On A Hot Tin Roof with Paul Newman, Elizabeth Taylor and Burl Ives adapted from the play by Tennessee Williams. Each Actor would go on and win an Academy Award in a subsequent film but Cat On A Hot Tin Roof while nominated for 6, didn't win any.

Big daddy (Burl) talking to his son Brick (Paul Newman) - "Didn't you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?"

So people try to cheat in Bingo also, eh? Who knew.

lol - no curmudgeon, a high % of smokers play BINGO :p

I love that line & Burl Ives delivers it perfectly! I just watched Cat On A Hot Tin Roof [again] last month!

You ever listen to any of his music? He started with the Banjo and Folk Songs and then switched to Country in the '60's. His first movie was in the '40's and he won an Oscar for best supporting actor in The Big Country (1958). He also played Big Daddy in The Cat On A Hot Tin Roof on Broadway in the early '50's prior to the movie.

lol curmudgeon - I just watched The Big Country with Gregory Peck again too! :p

My fave Gregory Peck oaters/westerns are Yellow Sky & The Gunfighter

No, I don't think I've heard any of Burl Ives' music - my mom mostly listened to Barbra Streisand & Roberta Flack in the 70's
