Time Per Day?

Hello, I'm new and I have a question. I am a poor doctoral student in a very big city, and I'd like to use sweepstakes to help myself and my husband to afford to live a little bit better, should I be fortunate enough to win. However, it seems to me that finding and entering sweepstakes and IW contests can be very time consuming (I've already lost 24 hours on my thesis!). How much time do you spend on average each day entering sweepstakes? How do you keep entering contests from taking as much time as a regular job? After you find your "standard" sweeps, is it faster to get through them? (I am using Ubuntu, so Roboform is not an option, but there is a firefox extension called Sxipper, which I have found VERY helpful in speeding things up).

Also, just out of curiosity, how long after you began entering daily did you begin to have wins? I apparently won a sample of Tom's of Maine toothpaste today, to be delivered 8-10 weeks after the end of their contest. Somehow, I don't think that that will improve my standard of living very much, but I'm pleased by the prize anyway, should I ever receive it. :-)

Welcome to SA! Your questions are all excellent. I searched the threads and could not find a good, honest answer to how many sweeps people enter, how long it takes them and how they are able to do it. I agree with Amy that you decide how much time to put into sweeping. (Thank you Amy! :sunny:). However, the time you put into sweeping is in direct correlation with how many wins you get.

I read one post where the person claimed to enter 1,000 sweeps in 3 hours. I think that might be a big fish story! I have a super fast computer and use RoboForm and can't even come close to that in 8 hours much less 3! For people that make those claims, I would like to know EXACTLY HOW they are able to enter that many sweeps in that amount of time.

I sweep about 5 hours (which is a like a part-time job!) and enter about 300 sweeps a day. This includes daily sweeps. I enter for myself and my husband which does take a little more time but it increases our odds and my husband loves it when he wins (by admitting that, I just opened my self up to some nasty comments!). If I didn't enter my husband, I could get through 300 sweeps in about 2 1/2 hours. I don't enter IWs unless I have extra time. They are very time consuming and the prizes are mostly small. The good thing about IWs is that if you are in a slump, you can usually win. The best time I found to play IWs is in the middle of the night. Only enter sweeps that have prizes you want, need or can use. I use RoboForm and FireFox which really increases the amount of sweeps I enter. I think Yahoo has a autofill program similar to RoboForm that you might want to check into.

I have been sweeping on and off since 2004 but fairly consistently since the beginning of January and won my first, and only, daily in May and my first OTE win in February (an author signed book which I loved). People say it takes a minimum of 3 months to start reaping rewards of your efforts but I'm still waiting for the UPS and FedEx guys to stop by consistently.

The best advice I heard about sweeping is ENTER IT AND FORGET IT! (I think Amy posted that on threads I read. Thank you again Amy! :sunny:). Keep sweeping fun so you don't get burned out. Look at it as something you do to take a break from school rather than something you NEED to do to improve your standard of living. Please keep in mind that everyone sweeps in different ways. People may not all agree with what I wrote. That is ok, you want different opinions then do what works best for you.

Best of luck! May God Bless you with MANY wins! Kathleen

(My nickname is Chatty Kathy. Can anyone explain to me why?)

Thank you. I read all the stickied posts before I posted myself. They are very helpful.

Good to hear slytherinsurvey - most don't think to - different learning styles perhaps?

My experience was like yours - I searched, read, asked, and learned there was no magic bullet, hence my oft repeated Sweeper's Credo:

The Sweeper's Credo:

Enter and forget it.

Always be happy for those who win - even when they win "your" prize - and be positive you will win.

Sweeping is a hobby that is all about timing. Especially for those elusive instants! IF you enter at the exact right moment, you will win.

If not? Sad to say you won't. But I assure you - it's nothing personal, and those who win a lot don't have any "secrets" - they are just consistent, persistent, and patient.

I really believe that if you go into it thinking you can't win, well, you'll MAKE yourself right so often you'll start believing it!!!

I truly do believe you have to have a positive attitude - don't get hung up on what others are doing - just focus on entering, then move on to something else - like posting so we can get to know you!!!

Hang in there - and enter, enter, enter - you'll be posting a win before you know it!!! And remember - every day brings new opportunities to win!!!

Thank you for your honest replies! There is no way I can spend that many hours entering sweeps ... maybe I can afford 45 minutes to an hour per day. I wonder if that would still pay off! I guess I'll find out in a few months ...

Hi, I'm new to sweeping as well. I began a 4 weeks ago and manually enter 55-65 sweeps/contests per day plus a handful of weeklies and monthly ones. I only enter to win prizes that I want, can use or give away as gifts. I've won 2 contests thus far, one from a local radio station's site for a harbor cruise and a Facebook contest for 2 tickets to a theme park. :) The motto, Enter it and forget it, is what I keep telling myself so that I don't get drained mentally. Good luck to you with both winning and your doctrine.

Well the main thing is to not make it a chore or bad thing or you won't stick with it or enjoy it, as far as entering for 45 min a day you can win on that and it is very possible. I enter mostly instant wins, and I do use robo form, I spend about 2 to 3 hours if I manage to stay awake when entering, sometimes I fall asleep and wake up sitting at the desk and time gets away. But anyway just enter what interest you, while they claim the instant wins have the best odds to win, if you don't want the prize why waste the time. I also use plus from SA. It does save me allot of time with the tools offered, you can divide the sweeps up into your own catagorys, like ones I want to enter the most, ones I want to enter if I have more time ect. this does save allot of time reading and figuring out, also sweepscheck helps save time, as you just click and it will load all the sweeps for you. I win pretty regular, mostly smaller things but have had some bigger wins. Hang in there and have fun, and amy is a pretty smart cookie so she is a good one to guide you the right way. good luck and let me know if can be any help be glad to.
