They won't stop calling

This is probably mentioned on another thread here but basically I'm to lazy today to check. Last year I was dumb enough to enter a Craftmatic bed sweep and they called 900 times. Earlier this year Buckmaster called more times than I can count and now Blue/Green resorts won't stop (and believe it or not when I very politely asked the first guy that called from Blue/Green "and where are you calling from" he started telling me what State he was in, the weather, his hobbies etc... everything but the COMPANY he was representing. If you read this before you enter a sweep with any of these 3, think twice.

I have had buckmasters call me this week. I dont enter the craftmatic anymore for this reason. :nono: Maybe try the do not call list. If they keep calling do what I do. I start asking them questions and dont let them get a word in edgewise.

jwjones102004 - I feel your pain - so I found a solution that works for me - i screen ALL of my calls, and my message states that clearly!

3mnkids1 - The only problem is that the Do Not Call doesn't apply when you enter a sweeps - in effect, you give them permission to call.

Now, this only applies to certain sponsors, and some are open about it, having a box to either check or uncheck if you don't want to hear from them unless you win.

Watch too for *Optional over the phone number space - I NEVER give it if it's optional!

Some sponsors hide the info in their Privacy Policy, and it is up to us (us sweepers as individuals) to read those. If you see that a sponsor will call you, or experience it (as you've just posted you have) then it is beneficial to us all if you post to the comments to alert your fellow sweepers.

Still others will REQUIRE that you be on their mailing list to stay entered in their sweeps, I'm not sure if the same applies to having to allow them to call you?

Now, to address the problem at hand. My experience is that you have to repeatedly tell them to remove you from their list - have them put you on their Do Not Call - this may take weeks. If they don't remove you by then? Then I WOULD report them!!!

No joke, I just act like I am really, really whacked out of my mind, that the bugs crawling under my skin are driving me crazy, and ask them if they can send someone to change my diaper, it's really full! :crazytongue:

They never, ever call back...

I swear, it really works! Try it! I only get maybe 2 or 3 telemarketer calls a year now.. Kind of a shame, as I do enjoy being an actress....

The comment about the diaper was hysterical. Thanks celticbikerbabe, I laughed so hard I cryed.

:sunny: Always glad to hear I gave someone a good laugh! I really do go into a whole "schtick" when they call, though. It is really, really fun. It's not often in life that you can take something so annoying and turn it into something that's such a hoot!

I actually look forward to those calls now so that I can get a chance to "creatively express myself"....

I try not to enter any sweeps that I think I will get telemarketing calls from. When I accidentally do enter and they call the first time I ask them to take me off their list and please don't call again and I also state that I am on the do not call list (although as Amy already stated that if you enter their sweepstakes you are considered in a business relationship with them and they DO have permission to call you).

The second time they call I appear to be extremely angry. I tell them that I have already asked to be taken off their list and to not call me again and I tell them that I am going to report them to my Attorney General.

Honestly, I have no idea how to report anything except to make a complaint on the do not call web site, but it has worked for me everytime. They have never called back.

One time several years ago I was receiving calls from a telephone company. After the 3rd call, I threatened reporting them and the girl who was calling put her manager on who offered me a $100 gift card. I didn't accept it (if you accept gift cards from them you are still considered to be in a business relationship) and they have never called again.

LOL about the diaper change routine...that's a good one!

I honestly think the best 75 cents per month I spend is on my unlisted phone number. I almost never get telemarketing calls, and when I do it's from the local newspaper or someone else I've done business with in the past. I give my cell phone # for sweeps only when required, and have had a few robocalls, but most calls go to vm and never leave a message.

That said, I don't think there's a way devised yet to get them to stop once you're on their list. My family's vacation home has a listed number, and since nobody lives there full time you can bet your :booty" when the phone rings in the evening it's a telemarketer. I'm ashamed to admit that I actually answer the phone imitating the "Special Ed" voice from "Crank Yankers"...works every time. They ask for my parents and I tell them "Mom says I should talk to you." They hang up real fast. YAAAAAY!

I used to get lots on an old number, but not so much since I moved here. I also used to do the "made up stories" thing. Would say I was the babysitter and then yell out random things like "Mikey, stop drinking from the toilet!!!" Then they would say do you know when a good time to get a hold of Tanya would be? And I would say, "who knows, she is a total crackhead ... away for days at a time. And I better get paid this time!" .... then with a loud "MIKEY!!! oops gotta go!!!" Click.

P.S. I don't actually have children, otherwise I might be worried about someone calling Child Protective Services on me! hahaha

We used to get a lot of hang up calls at odd hours of the day and night. This was a couple of years ago. We traced it down to telemarketers using automated dialing that didn't quite complete the call. I was able to get telemarketing block put on my phone so I never get calls from telemarketers now. Maybe more phone companies will start offering the service, because I love it. No more midnight hang up calls from a telemarketer in CA. :sunny:

The calls that u r getting with no one on the line, are just automated calls checking to see what time people are answering. Then the marketers know what time to call you. We get those all the time.

One time I did report someone to the Atty Generals office. It happened to be the State Police who were calling for donations. My DH said he was afraid to leave the house anymore, after me reporting them. LOL! He was just sure we would be stopped for speeding or something else. They did stop though. And it was a marketing company working for the state police that was pestering me.

I agree with the buckmasters. I entered their sweep earlier this year and they called over and over. I finally told them I hurt my back and needed surgery and had given up hunting. Actually the bad back part is correct, but I have never hunted. They, I think, have finally stopped as it has been about 6 weeks or so now since last call.

I also had terrible time with Craft-Matic. We were in Arizona for the winter and I sent for info thinking it might help my back, and they kept calling and calling. The last time I was really short with them and rude. They put their "manager" on the line and I only answered yes or no and told him to stop calling. He said I had such a pleasant voice that would I consider letting them fly me to NY to make a commercial for them. That is the honest to God truth! My DH was cracking up at the way I was dealing with them. They finally stopped calling, (probably because we left the rental condo and came back home for the summer) but it just sounded so much like a boiler room operation as they kept passing me off from one person to the other.
