Warning: Devastating Windows Virus Spreading - Tips, Reviews and Advice on All Things Digital - The Kim Komando Radio Show

It seems like hackers are always plotting new ways to steal your information and money. In fact, there's a dangerous new virus going around that can hijack your computer and wipe out all your files.

It's called the Crypto Locker virus, and it's spreading like wildfire.

The virus is disguised in an email that looks like it's from a legitimate business like FedEx or UPS. Because the email sounds and looks like the real thing, it's easy to become a victim.

Yeah, but they are targeting FedEx & UPS, which newer sweepers may not think would get phished.

One of my users at work got this virus. It corrupted all of her PDF and Word files. Fortunately only lost a little bit of work since most files are saved on the server. Hoping that someone comes up with a way to decrypt affected files. One way to make sure and survive is to make backups of important files. If you have plenty of storage space on your computer, enable the "Volume Shadow Copy" service which will let you easily restore files back to a previous version. Let me know and I can give a walkthough if anyone is interested.
