Re: So you want to win a car? **UPDATE**

Hi gavind, It is at the dealer, now. All I have to do is finalize the deal with them. They have not made any firm offer yet, nor have I. I plan on going there tomorrow 7/30 and talk deals with them. Not looking forward to this because it's gona be like buying two cars, plus trading one in, but they are not rushing me to make a decision, so I have some time to consider all options, within a reasonable period of course.

Re: So you want to win a car? **UPDATE**

Went to dealer today, they made an offer that I don't think is quite fair, so I think I am going to accept the Jeep Sahara and sell it on my own, or if not, drive it myself . Also there are other dealers that are interested. The dealer is willing to take the jeep and put me in another car, with a 7,000 cash refund to me, but I am not so sure that this is a good swap. It seems that their offer is very low for the Sahara, I don't think they can buy it from the manufacture for that price. The MSRP is over 36,500 for that model and it has a super set of tires and rims. Like I said, previously, this deal is like buying 2 cars and trading 1 in. WOW, head still spinning from negotiating with dealer today. Do'nt get me wrong, it is great to win a car, but more headache than you can imagine. Thanks for the headache SA (just kidding) A headache like this is welcome anytime!

It sounds like selling it yourself is the best option, from what you have said. I'd take a headache for winning a car too. ha.

So you want to win a car? **FINAL**

Well, I have made the deal, I settled for a less expensive Jeep Patriot, and enough cash to pay the taxes and possibly a couple of K left over. I am a little bummed that I had to give up that beautiful Sahara with all the bells & whistles, but at least now, I have a "free" new car with a much cheaper operating cost. And, I probably will be able to keep my present ride with the savings from just the gas mileage. Again, thanks to SA for making that possible.

Congratulations! It seems like you took your time and made the right decision. Enjoy your wonderful prize!

Re: So you want to win a car? **UPDATE**

HI,

Congrats on your win!

I'd take the car and consider your options afterwards. Too bad the dealership is playing games like that, unfortunately a lot do though.

(And actually where I'm from -- a few companies started playing games where you didn't "win" a car -- but you won a "1-year" "lease" of a car. So you got to use it for 1 year, needed to make sure it was under 10,000 miles, etc, then had to return it afterwards :P)

But congrats on your wiin! Curious -- what was they offer they were making you?

Re: So you want to win a car? **UPDATE**

user123, I have made a deal with the dealer, and have swapped the jeep for a lesser model and enough cash to pay the taxes. I am heartbroken because I could not keep the Sahara, it was a beautiful ride, with all the bells and whistles and about $ 4,000 in tires & rims. But, this way it is a free car, although, not the one I won.

Well, as some of you know, I won a JEEP WRANGLER last year, ARV $35,000, well I traded that for a lesser JEEP and some cash. Now it's tax time and I find out that, even though I traded for a lesser car and cash, I still have to pay the tax on the original ARV, because the IRS does not care what you do with your prize, or who you sell it to, even if you take a loss, they want the whole shebang. Well, I got a new car and enough cash to pay the taxes (state and fed) plus $3000 left in cash. Disappointing, but at least I got a car and some cash. So, if you are trying to win a car, or house, or anything big, please think about the tax that you will have to pay, and make sure that you can pay it, either out of pocket or by sale of the prize with some profit for you. And, also get some proof of the real ARV of the prize by looking on the net and recording it in case the sponsor hits you with a high 1099 value.
