Seriously Disappointed

Have you ever won something that became an absolute pain to redeem? I have entered the simplyglutenfree sweeps for years. Finally won a $50. Gift card from 3pigs Les Trois Petits Cochons. Have had nothing but difficulty redeeming. Tried to place an order for around $48. just would not submit. I contacted their Customer Service and the message I got back :
"The gift card can not be applied to shipping fees on our website and our minimum order requirement still applies. Sorry about that. The only way to go around this is to place your order on the phone with us. You can call us today before 5pm on 212.219.1230" When you call this number the message you get is "if you know your parties extension" left a message but have never received a return call.

Nowhere can I find Terms and Conditions for Gift Card. Would you buy someone a Gift Card if they had to pay shipping for a purchase? Not ME!!

So I tried again today to place an order of just over $50. total now includes a $49. shipping charge and a message they don't ship to MO. So I start backing up, go to shipping policy and yes they ship to MO and the high charge is because some of the items are perishable. So I try to change order to non-perishable items. Oh but guess what "doesn't say in description only shows Refrigerate after opening" now things like the pates and terrines do show "keep refrigerated" You can only find what is non-perishable in Shipping Polices. So I revise order, now $19.99 for shipping.

Sorry I am not going to pay approximately $25. for some sausages and mustard.

I only entered the sweeps because I do love cured sausage and good mustard.

Am so disappointed.

I have noticed that this sweeps is no longer offered

Aw, man. That's a real pain. I'm sorry you had to deal with that! I can see why it was no longer worth the effort, I would have done the same thing.

Hey, pennymb, was this ever rectified?
I'll never enter a simplyglutenfree contest again. If they treat one of us like that, we'll treat them to how it feels.

Once I won $500 from a Restaurant. They were supposed to send me a seafood feast. By the time it got here it had sat on a dock somewhere for several days. There was nothing in there that was edible. When I contacted them about it they wouldn't even send me some T-shirts or gift cards I could give to friends in the area. They were real jerks about it.

I won $600 credit from Orbitz for plane tickets to anywhere. I found that to use the credit, I was limited to certain hours and routes. To get to my destination, a two-hour direct flight normally, would have taken five flights hopscotching from airport to airport over a period of more than twenty-four hours. When I talked to one lady who was trying to book less flights and work it out for me, she sighed and said that she wasn't surprised at the limitations. I asked if the "prize" could be useful in terms of a donation to a charity that provides air transport and she said they won't accept this kind of credit because they get the same runaround I did. I did not learn until a year later that I didn't have to pay the taxes on this "prize" -- I thought it if I accepted it, then I had to pay taxes, but I learned later (probably here) that if I didn't actually redeem the prize, then I didn't have to pay the taxes.

I won a pair of Avia sneakers a long time ago. I was only allowed to give my size, not pick the shoe. They came and looked good (plain white) but the insoles had an arches too far back and I had to take them out and put in my own. So I think some contests use it to give away unsellable merch and get a tax write-off on it. Or make it not include shipping so they can make some money off it.

I hate to hear about the problems with the simplyglutenfree sweeps "win" above. I've won something twice from them and it was a good win both times. Maybe they learned their lesson from that terrible incident, although it doesn't give any comfort to the OP.
