Security Question????

Hi Folks,
This morning I'm getting a lot of security pop ups from my Norton Security program, which all say something like: Level High, Intrusion Attempt by______.com (ConAgra, Phillips, Chiquita, Delish Holiday Sweeps, etc...) was blocked. Risk Name: HTTP Acrobat PDF Suspicious File Download..... I've never got these warnings before while I was sweeping, what gives? Will this interfere with entering sweeps? Do I just ignore it or what? And why is it doing it now, out of the blue?

Some kind of malware or spyware that is on your computer is probably causing this problem.

Run a spyware program and delete the nuisances. Make sure your Norton is up-to-date also.

I don't use norton but have been told that it has been known to do this, as far as all the alerts, it sounds like those sites might be using a different type of cookie and causing all the alerts on your system. usually norton has something you can click on to go to nortons site for more info on the alerts you are seeing.

After ten years of using Norton, I finally got rid of it. It's just not all it's cracked up to me. I have a far better program through my ISP.

The problem is NOT your Norton!!!!! DON'T LISTEN TO THAT.

So, let's address the problem! Your anti-virus program is notifying you that a .pdf file is trying to download from multiple sites. YOU HAVE A TROJAN!

IMMEDIATELY run your antivirus program and FOLLOW it's suggestions!

(NASTY LITTLE SOCIAL DISEASE FROM VISITING FLAKEY SITES .... TIME FOR A SHOT)

Hmmmm....
I checked all systems and everything is okie-dokie... The auto updates and scans are as recent as yesterday and today and everything checks clean? Could this be a result of an update that is sticter than before?

  • [li]MANUALLY update your definitions.[/li]
[li]MANUALLY update Adaware and Spybot (if you have them). IMMUNIZE with Spybot[/li]
    [li]SIGN OFF of the internet!!!![/li]
    [li]REBOOT your system[/li]
[li]SHUT DOWN any other programs you have running (USING YOUR SYSTRAY!)[/li]
[li]Run a COMPLETE FULL manual scan of your ENTIRE system[/li]
[li]Run a COMPLETE FULL manual scan of your ENTIRE system with Adaware and Spybot if you have them.[/li]
    [li]REBOOT your system.[/li]
[li]If you still get those messages follow the Norton link given in the alert for more info[/li]

then post back

I have to agree with Lorens on this one.

That said, I gave up Norton because it pretty well prevented me from sweeping. It was always blocking sites. But when it tells you it is blocking downloads, then you have to take precautions.

Let us know what happens. If it keeps happening, there are more drastic steps you can take.

Oh boy....

I did as Loren Brothers suggested.... the computer got a few more updates; a good cleaning then scanned, swept blah, blah, blah... kinda like a computer colonoscopy... it's behaving a little peppy-er but nothing outstanding was found, no bugs, worms, no malicious adware, etc..

So I gave the conagra (Simple and Delicious) instant sweep a go to see what would happen.... Well as soon as the graphic loaded game began to download I got the same warning... about a high risk attack from computer: conagra.eprize.net (63.217.8.126,80) was blocked re: HTTP Acrobat PDF Suspicious Download...

The page did download, and I went ahead and followed the game as usual with the same security alerts popping up with every page download as the game progressed.... the graphics were fine and other than "SORRY you did not win this time" the game seemed to proceed well, even with the security blocking alerts... There is a button to click that says "Stop Notifying Me, and driving me nuts over nothing".... (Okay I added that last part about going nuts).

I don't know, nothing is different, I haven't opened any weird mail, or visited any odd or obscure websites and nothing has been different.... Until yesterday morning, that is when these gosh darn alerts began and the only thing that happened was during the wee morning hours the computer did it's usual updating and maintenance routine... which makes me think that one of the updates, reset something to different parameters (big old shrug and sigh). I don't know.
Is it serious - or just an annoyance - or just seriously annoying!
