As soon as you see Congratulation (without an s at the end), you should delete the email from Nigeria/Bangladesh/etc.

I "win" Home Depot, CVS, Walmart gift cards on a daily basis from them, hahaha

Definitely a scam as others have stated.
If you actually win something...there should NEVER be a charge at all. No shipping/ handling..nothing! And absolutely no checking, debit, etc numbers EVER given out!!
That being said, some companies lately have been asking for SS# for smaller prizes and the W9 form. Is that something fairly new with the W9 form??
I never fill out the forms and send them back if it is for some inexpensive item. It's just not worth it!!!!
Years ago you didn't have to fill out anything unless it was over $600

Some sweeps DO make you pay shipping but they tell you up front/in the rules.

I 'won' on Instagram a couple of weeks ago. I rec'd a message on my Instagram account telling me that I won a hedge trimmer from a company that I did enter their contest. When I checked the Instagram account that said I won, it had the same name as the original account but was not verified. There were also misspellings. They gave me five minutes to claim my prize and asked for my cc info. I blocked them then reported them to the original company. We have to be careful...also, I did not click on the link they sent me.

These scams are common on social media because it’s usually easy to see who entered a sweepstakes. So scammers message the person and say they have won a sweeps they entered. As. Tigerkitty suggested- ALWAYS check that the email came from the VERIFIED account of the sponor.

The crazy thing the gift card giveaway is actually on wawa Instagram giveaway! I also sent Wawa in a message all this info!
That's not by accident but rather by design. Some scammers are smart enough to know to refer to legit sweepstakes in order to make the target more likely to believe that it's real.
