Roboform links & Q&A

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

FYI - the latest update •Official Current version of RoboForm is 7.1.0 has a separate d/ld for FF RoboForm for Firefox v1.1.1
Pure Firefox extension that does not require the regular RoboForm installer. Requires RoboForm Online.

Which is NOT free :nono:

JUST updating IE disabled the old Firefox extension!!! :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Correction - look further down the page to:

http://www.roboform.com/platforms/browsers/firefox

Additional Full RoboForm Toolbar Information
RoboForm Installer Installs Adapter Automatically into Firefox
RoboForm installer automatically installs Adapter into Firefox 3.0 to 4.0.
If you check "Install Adapter that allows RoboForm to work in Firefox" box in RF installer.

Browser Version

XPI file to use if not installed automatically

Firefox 3.0 to 4 beta X

roboform-firefox-3-4-frozen.xpi

Turn off native browser password managers as they interfere with RoboForm: In Tools > Options > Security > Passwords uncheck Remember Passwords.

And it will work in robo - I mistakenly dl/ded the Full RoboForm Toolbar (recommended for Windows users) and today got the nag screen to purchase - turned out I updated ALL of robo to Version 7.2.8 since I couldn't figure out how to get the addon in FF to work!!! :cussing:  :nono:

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

Tried robolite, total PITA, so I went back to Firefox 3.6.17 and robo works, YAY!!!

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

I upgraded FF to 4.0 and now Robo doesn't work for me either. Toolbar won't expand, passcards don't get filled. The "Everywhere" software has to be constantly synchronized, or else you get an expired license error and the demand to buy now. In February they're gonna be clamoring for their $30 for a teeny bit of space (which is free everywhere else).

I'm gonna look for alternatives to Robo, which is not the same company it used to be.

IF robo had "grandfathered" us in, or partioned it so you could only access the extra bells and whistles {which I have NO use for btw} by paying extra, they would have kept their promise.

Let me know what you find - I've heard good things about LastPass but haven't had time to fully check it out.

I've had nothing but problems using FF 3.6.17 - hanging, slow loading, etc. The ONLY upside is I can use Robo. If I can ditch it I will in a heartbeat!!!

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

Here's what's even funnier about Robo: If you want to use LastPass or another form filler you'd need to export your Robo passcards, right? Siber Systems has crippled the export features, in an attempt to keep users from migrating to other softwares. You have to downgrade to Robofrom 6 in order to properly export your data:

http://helpdesk.lastpass.com/getting-started/importing-from-roboform/

For a long time I used Roboform without a care, but they're looking sneakier every time I read new things about the company.

"Siber Systems has crippled the export features, in an attempt to keep users from migrating to other softwares"

That's truly underhanded. :cussing: I guess they don't care about word of mouth?

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

Hi There,

I stepped away from roboform for a little while. Is there a way to remove all my logins, most all are expired, at one time so I can start from scratch?

THX

An Upgrade from RoboForm 6 to RoboForm 7 may require you to purchase an upgrade license
•If you purchased RoboForm 6 Pro before September 1st, 2010 you will receive discounted upgrade pricing.
•If you purchased RoboForm 6 Pro after September 1st, 2010 you will be entitled to a free upgrade.
•If you do not wish to upgrade you can continue using RoboForm 6 under your existing license.

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

I've had enough of using Roboform 7 as my primary form filler. I'm migrating today to Lastpass which is free. There will be a learning curve but I don't care, I'm mad because Roboform removed the ability to export logins and identities in the newest version in a format that can be imported into other programs. I attempted to download Roboform 6 specifically to get that ability back but the Firefox add-on to allow Roboform's toolbar to work is specifically disabled in either Firefox 5 or Firefox 6 (I tried both). The precipating reason for going to Lastpass today is because I'm sick and tired of having problems with Roboform correctly filling out form fields ever since the upgrade to Firefox 6 and Roboform 7.4.2. In my current testing Lastpass is correctly filling out HTML forms and I'm working through all of my saved sweepstakes sites to convert them over. The work will be worth it, I think.

If anyone has successfully been able to export and re-import Roboform logins and identities into Lastpass AFTER having had Roboforom 7.4.2 AND Firefox 6.0.1 installed, please let me know how you did it - thanks cheers

I'm ticked they said free for life, then made it so you have to use Firefox 3.6.18 and robo version 6-10-2 to even have it WORK in Firefox!!! :cussing:

Let us know how LASTPASS does - I haven't had the time/energy to deal with yet another learning curve!!! :nono:

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

So far so good on LastPass, but of course it has its own quirks which don't fill in all fields correctly on some forms. Also, for forms which for you to type your entry manually LastPass won't work just as Roboform currently doesn't win. Once you install it and login, a red box with an asterisk in it appears to the far right of the menu bar on which you enter website names - it's a pulldown menu. "Save All Entered Data" is the option that will allow you to create a login, but it's far easier to define a hot key sequence to do this (I used Alt+L) by selecting HotKeys from Preferences and then pressing your keys - it will automatically fill the field.

However, I have not gotten rid of Roboform because I use its identities to pre-fill the fields on new sweepstakes forms, then use ALT+L to bring up the LastPass page to save the login. It took me a good day but I finally migrated all of the Roboform logins that I was able to and then deleted the corresponding Roboform login. Now any time I see a highlighted Roboform login name I know I had a problem with LastPass on that form because I didn't delete it.

I am also going to contact Roboform today and complain that the process to save new logins usually doesn't work at all any more.

p.s. With LastPass you can use the ALI+I hotkey sequence to autofill the form when you have a login defined for it but it did not autofill by itself (why this happens sometimes is a mystery!).

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

I have the original roboform - the free one. I tried to contact Roboform directly, but they will not respond to a question (either by phone or online) unless you have the one that you pay for (Roboform 7?????). So if anyone here would respond, (besides Amy!) I'd really appreciate it. Is it possible to have 2 people on one computer use Roboform?? If so, would you explain how to add the second one without messing up the first one? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help. J.

Robo DOES answer those questions in their FAQ:

Roboform's site:

Roboform's FAQ:

How to Use RoboForm in Sweepstakes:

Since it's their program, and your computer is unique with what you have on it, they are your best bet for learning the ropes, since you figured out to set it up for yourself already, and adding another person is essentially the same thing.

Roboform problems getting in my way...

Hi; I've had Roboform version 6 for a while, but early this month I was blocked more and more often from autofill, with roboform telling me that I now have to buy version 7, which I did 12/08/2011.
Ever since then I get nothing basically; roboform STILL tells me I need to buy version 7, and whenever I hit the "activate" button on the roboform page, it just tells me "activation failed... buy version 7".

The support function at roboform seems to be an auto-bot, and I get no help from trying to contact them.
Right now, I am danged sorry that I ever got involved with them, and I just want my $29.95 back.

Have you had this problem? What form-filler do you use?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: Roboform problems getting in my way...

Okay... after much time and frustration spent on this problem, I finally figured out what happened, and now I can share this solution and maybe help someone else in the future.

The "Golden Ticket" I got from roboform contained my special activation number already pre-filled in the field. That number was wrong. I got an email from the roboform support people telling me to re-do all of the steps that I had already done 28 times before... and they told me to enter my "activation number" which they said was (XXX). I finally realized that (XXX) was NOTthe same number as the (XYX) number that had been pre-filled on my activation form.
I plugged in the activation number they sent me, and *Presto* it works!

I'm happy, but ticked that I had to go through all of this crap...

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

Ok,

Since I am coming from a programming background, I can definitely answer your question.

Technically speaking, *anything* is detectable given the correct amount of programming. If someone *really* really really really wanted to know if you were using a software tool to help you type in form details, then given enough $$$ and programming expertise, then yes, they can do it.

However, that is a lot of work, and most (educated guess) 99% don't do that, because it is not worth the time/effort when much 'simpler' ways are available to still making the sweepstakes fun for everyone. The "smart" ones just make sure people enter according to entry details (i.e., if it's once a day, enter once a day), and 'ignore' entries past that. (So you can't enter 10,000 times, when it is once per day, and programatically, that is relatively easy to do).

I've personally spoken with a number of different companies -- and there concern is not so much for automatically filling in a form, then clicking submit -- their main concern is:

(a) When someone tries to abuse a sweepstakes, i.e., enter 10,000+ times in a day when "regular" people can only enter once
(b) If the user entering NEVER hears/knows/or has access to the company (so the company does 'not' increase their exposure), then they are concerned about that as well.

Roboform has been around for 10+ years, and thousands of people have won prizes with that (just visit any sweepstakes website forum, read the old threads, and you'll see)... Sweepstakes Ninja, a new tool which makes it even easier, has been around and developed over several years as well. It has been designed with sweepstakers in mind, and also has many people reporting have won from using it. And it enters according to frequencies specified by the companies, as well as gives them the increased exposure. (In fact, I've personally received comments from people thanking me for letting them know about a company they would have never otherwise known about, that had some great products & services).

So bottom line:

(a) Ultimately it is your decision whether to use a tool or not. If you are concerned, then you should enter all sweepstakes by hand.
Most sweepstakers (according to forum stats) at the very *least* do use Roboform, which 'technically' could be considered a form filler, since it is.
(b) People have won using Roboform & Sweepstakes Ninja. Both let you 'see' what you are entering, while making the process more enjoyable. And companies like you being happy when you visit their sites. And companies like you telling other people about the wonderful prizes you've won from them, to increase their word of mouth advertising.
(c) And yes, if someone really really wants to see if you are using some kind of tool, there are a thousand different ways of doing that.

The ultimate thing to remember is, companies want to have sweepstakes, in order to increase their exposure, word of mouth advertising, (and ideally more sales, etc). If you are using a tool that helps them *acheive* that (i.e., you still see the website, know what you are entering, regardless of if it takes you 1 second or one minute to enter), then they are usually happy as well.

Re: Roboform links & Q&A

Is it possible to get Robo desktop without the CD? I am ready to start sweeping again, and need a license renewal.

They're pushing the Everywhere version pretty hard, and when I tried to buy the single computer license only (desktop version), I found they put the CD in the shopping cart, along with $4 shipping charge.

Very coercive, and not nice. Especially after cancelling everyone's "lifetime unlimited license."
