ReadTheDamnBill

President Obama has made reference multiple times to the fact that his grandmother received an expensive hip replacement while she was terminally ill with cancer, holding it up as an example of spending that sometimes takes place near the end of life. He's wondered whether the country can afford those kinds of bills, even though he said he would have paid for grandmother's hip out of pocket

This particular quote from the link provided by red concerns me. It should be left up to the patient and/or the patients family to decide what sort of care they receive. Not the government.

Here is some more on the hip thing:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/01/us/politics/30web-baker.html
“ Whether, sort of in the aggregate, society making those decisions to give my grandmother, or everybody else’s aging grandparents or parents, a hip replacement when they’re terminally ill is a sustainable model is a very difficult question.”

He went on to say: “If somebody told me that my grandmother couldn’t have a hip replacement and she had to lie there in misery in the waning days of her life, that would be pretty upsetting.”

At the heart of the health care debate that will soon occupy Washington is just that conundrum. As an intellectual matter, it’s one thing to say that it makes no sense for a country to spend so much on procedures that ultimately will do little to extend or improve the lives of those nearing death. But as a personal matter, it’s another to deny your own grandmother an operation that may at least make her last days more comfortable.

I still feel it should be left up to the family and their doctor to decide what care the elderly receive. Not some independent group. Or government. This is a difficult issue no doubt and again more reason to read the darn bill.

Oh no, Cash for Clunkers just got more confusing
http://jalopnik.com/5323941/epa-sec...ahead-of-cash-for-clunkers-screwing-consumers

Shazam! Your car magically gets more miles per gallon! That's what some consumers hoping to take advantage of the government's "Cash For Clunkers" program are discovering. And the result is that they suddenly no longer qualify for up to $4500 voucher

They can't do simple car trade ins, and they want to determine who gets a hip replacement? :error:
