received a notification that i won "womans day olay total beauty" contest. But i have to provide my social on a w-9. can anyone advise if this sounds legit?

I think we need to ask several separate questions before knowing the answer.

Is the winning notification legit? Did you receive it via email, phone or regular mail? Can you verify the sender (for email you can right click to see details, for example).

Is there a contact person?

Did you enter the sweeps? What is the full, correct title? Can you find it on SA, or via Google?

Providing your ssn for tax purposes could be legit, and members have been asked, even for books and t-shirt wins. You are doing the right thing by asking and verifying...always be cautious.

About Woman's Day, I won a $60 handbag several years ago, but it just showed uo in the mail. That doesn't mean all their prizes are sent that way.

this is the email i recieved:

Congratulations! You have been selected, subject to verification, as the prize winner of “The Beauty Angle” sweepstakes.
Please confirm that you would like to accept this prizing by replying all “YES” to this email and providing your address in order for the prizing to be fulfilled.
Please send a response by June 21st, 2012.

Per Hearst Corporation’s legal department, the next step is to have you fill out a W9 form (attached) and affidavit (attached).
Please fill out this form and return it to me by June 21st, 2012.

Again, on behalf of Woman’s Day Brand Group, congratulations!

would appreciate your opinion thank you!

:headbang: Looks like the standard email that Hearst sends out to the winners. Send them you info and prepare to enjoy your prize!
