Propane & gas grrr

I just ordered 100 gallons of propane. The man said the total is going to be close to $300, $300 and has to be paid when he comes!! He also said that is providing that they don't have to do a pressure check or it will be $50 more. I still have fire coming through the heaters, I don't need a pressure check and they are trying to say that I might. I told him that if I can show the delivery man that fire is still coming through will they still charge me? He said maybe not if I can prove it but, he is not sure. I am going to mention weights and measures if they try. We have already been questioning if the correct amount is put in when we buy propane.

OMG $350 for propane that I just bought 3 weeks ago as well?! I love winter time but, I am ready for it to be over...this stuff is too high and 100 gallons could last me nearly all summer but, since I heat my house and water with propane I have to buy it. Dh worked on getting the $$ together all weekend to buy this propane to find out we might need $50 more. I have $340 sitting here and I hope like heck they don't charge the extra $50 and a delivery fee. Something has to be done about the prices or something has to be done about the limits you have to purchase (no less than 100 gallons at a time). I wrote an article in the newspaper and it didn't help squat, they still refuse to work with anyone so it was a waste of my time.

Doesn't help that we have to spend about $100 a week in gasoline so that dh can go back and fourth to work, we rarely go anywhere else because, of gas prices. We need a gas efficient vehicle. I just love how there are problems with liquid/natural gas in the economy but, the big names are profiting billions a year and gloating about it. :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Re: Propane & gas grrr

I agree. What makes me even angrier is when 1 station raises their price, every other station raises it also, even when they didn't get a delivery. This happened last week, 9 stations raised the prices within 1 hour of each other, to the same price as the first one that raised it. You can't tell me they all got deliveries within that hour! Only one thing tells me what is happening here and it PRICE GOUGING.

Re: Propane & gas grrr

Our propane guy comes when he knows it's time to fill up the tank. He came yesterday, and it came to $631.55 ($3.599/gallon). We get a little discount if it's paid within 10 days. I remember paying $.70+/gallon not too many years ago!!

Re: Propane & gas grrr

Ouch! That had to really hurt lidarkside. I can't afford to fill my tank up right now (hence why I only ordered 100 gallons, we have over 250 gallon tank and the % is always different when filled) but, you can bet that I try to fill it up between summer and next winter.

I agree jerzee, there is a lot of price gouging going on and consumers are feeling it bad.

Re: Propane & gas grrr

We live in an extremely expensive area. Thank God our winters have been milder than normal these past few years. Otherwise, it would be alot more than that!

Re: Propane & gas grrr

Our propane is $2.299 a gallon and we have a 1000 tank so I'm not looking forward to filling it back up  It has been a winter where it hasn't been a lot of deep snows, but we have had lots of little snows ~ expecting at least an inch of snow tonight

Re: Propane & gas grrr

Normal propane prices around here are about $2.59/gallon. However, I piggyback on my parents...who have multiple propane accounts around the area. So, instead of paying the normal price, I get to use the discount my parents get...which is $1.65/gallon. I knew my parents were good for something!

Re: Propane & gas grrr

I am happy for you ~ that is wonderful that you can get that kind of break...wonder if I can claim that I am related...I've always wanted a big brother :headbang:

Re: Propane & gas grrr

We us fuel oil and filling the tank has been running about $500 a pop. We have to fill it all the way because it will get condensation otherwise and then the heater will misfire all night, scaring us all to death. We use propane for the generator but we haven't had to run that much-yet-knock on wood.

Re: Propane & gas grrr

lol and I was whinning because my electric was $214 this month. Im glad I live in fl. I wouldn't be able to deal with all that.

Re: Propane & gas grrr

The driver came this afternoon and I stopped him before he went to the tank like they always do. I told him that "John doe told me to have you come inside to see the heat working before you try to pressurize and charge me an extra $50". The man came inside and said no problem, I wan't charged the extra $50 so we went ahead and splurged on dinner out tonight with the rest of the money we had set aside for the propane. The prices of this stuff just makes me sick, I wish it would go down.

Thanks for letting me vent this morning, I really needed it. I was irritated with the whole thing, mainly the possible $50 extra they wanted. Oh, I also didn't get charged a delivery fee this time.

Sticks, I am with ping! Can we claim you as a big brother? lol. Awesome discount! Mine is nearly $3 a gallon and then they tack on taxes, usually a delivery fee, etc.

Ping, 1000 tank is insane!! You must have a large home to have such a big tank. Wow, I feel for you.

Re: Propane & gas grrr

No ~ we don't have a big house ~lol! When we moved in it was a regular 2 bedroom 1 bath ~ we have added a couple of bedrooms in the basement now for the kids but it is the biggest tank I have ever seen at a home ~lol!! I am ready to add on though ~ I need to win a lot of money!!

Re: Propane & gas grrr

I'm going to convert my home heating from oil to natural gas very soon using the utility company. At this moment, no gas of any kind comes into the house. What are you all using the propane tank for?

Re: Propane & gas grrr

We use propane to heat our home and hot water. I purchased an electric range so I don't have to worry about using gas to cook with and my dryer is electric.

Re: Propane & gas grrr

We use propane to run our whole house electric back up generator, which is essential because the power goes out frequently, often for long periods. I don't know what size tanks we have but there are two of them and its supposed to be enough to keep the power on for a month.

Re: Propane & gas grrr

Rita ~ it's about time you got my message:laughing:

The only things that we run on propane is our heater and our stove! I love being able to have heat and food if the power goes out in a bad storm!!

Same here. I am grateful I can still have heat during the winter, if power should go out during a storm. Otherwise, my central heat is the primary heating/cooling system.
