Prepaid debit Cards

So I just got a debit master card that I won that has $25 from Lipton. I know it's good basically wherever mastercard but what happens if I want to use it on a purchase that is more then $25. Do stores let you use 2 forms of payment? What about online stores? Or would i some how have to add money to the card. This one is an Ecount card but i know there are other companies out there. I know that i need to activate the card (that's done) but I just don't want to embarrass myself trying to use it!

If things are working correctly they swipe it, it takes $25 off the purchase, you pay the rest with whatever. You can also combine multiple prepaids in many cases. Really annoying last time I paid for a $75 Walmart purchase with a huge collection of $5's 10's and 2's

I always pay cash for the overage (just used my $20 7-11 card) my total was $35.55 and I paid $15.55 before they could use the $20 card.

I had $110 (5 cards) for Target last month, and again, I had to pay ther overage before they would apply the cards!!!

It really depends on where you use it though. Let them try to swipe the gift card first to see if you can use it first, especially if you are wanting to use a credit card or debit card to pay for the remaining balance. If you are paying cash then it won't matter as much, but I would want the gift card debited from the amount first before paying the remaining amount on another card if possible.

Congrats on your win! I love the prepaid mastercards ~ they are so handy!

Well only in the way that you should be able to use it in any amount that you chose at any store that accepts mastercard. I said gc because you won it. I won a visa pre-paid about 2 years ago actually from visa for $100.00. I ended up spending it online for Christmas. It was my first ever win and the thing that got me addicted to sweeping ~ lol!

Is that what you meant, just my terminology?

yeah i was confused by your wording. I thought maybe you were telling me about using a gift card. I'm still nervous about using it. It's a cool win though. I also won a Visa online code (i don't ever get a physical card). I'm curious as to how smoothly that will work!

:sunny: I have used the prepaid visa/mastercard codes and cards online and in the real world. If your purchase is over the card amount, you just pay the difference.

I assume that i need to know the balence on the card and tell the cashier how much to charge to it. The register can't tell how much is on it like a gift card the store issued, right?

Just like they can tell the remaining amount of credit you have on your credit card, they can tell the exact amount of money placed on the visa/mastercard gift card.

But if they can tell how much credit you have left then how 'come you can go over your limit (and get all the hefty fees!). Or my debit visa card with my bank I can overdraw (if I don't have over draft protection set up).

Thanks for the help everyone. I just don't want to make a fool out of myself trying to use this!
