Phone Call Wins

 I was just wondering how many of you have received "winning" phone calls?? I have been sweeping for 3 years now and I have never rec'd a winning phone call. Neither has my friend, who has been sweeping just as long as I have. I keep my cell phone by me 24/7, so I know I haven't missed any. I am anxiously awaiting a phone call soon!

Not all wins come by phone call. Some are emailed, delivered UPS/Fed Ex, regular mail, etc...

I've won several times where things just show up unannounced.

I understand that. I have had surprise wins, affy wins, email wins, I just wondered how many people have rec'd phone call wins.

Most times, the sponsor doesn't telephone the winner. After 11 years of on-line sweeping and many, many grand prizes, I've only been called on about three or four occasions. One was Valpak who only telephones the winner. That was about seven years ago. The most recent, several years ago, was from Smucker's for a bunch of computer learning programs/games for children. The other one or two were about five years ago. Other than that, I'm almost always informed by email, Fedex, UPS, or USPS.

I've received 2 in the 1 1/2 yrs I've been sweeping. One was for a $50 GC for a Sears sweep & the other from InTouch. I don't know if Intouch phones for all wins, but in my case they needed clothing sizes.

I have never been called ... that I know of! I screen all my calls via caller ID and answering machine. If they can't identify themselves they can go rot :cussing:

You will find out that probably about 25% of legit sweeps say winner will be contacted via phone/email. About 2% of legit sweep say the winner will be contacted by phone only. (So they can tape you screaming for joy over the phone ... for promotional purposes)

But, close to 40% of "flaky" sweeps state winner will be contacted by phone only. Why? So they can sell you something like insurance or time share vacations, so they can circumvent the 'do not call' list by your giving them permission to do so, and/or so they can sell your phone/email permission to "our promotion partners and other subsidiaries of our company". The other 60% don't say how you will be contacted ... which might explain why you never see any winners. :crazytongue: (still waiting to win an autographed guitar!)

I've received 3 phone calls, none for grand prize wins.

1 was a luggage tag, 1 was a t shirt, 1 was from woman's day for a sound machine. guess it all just depends on the sponsor's methods.

Been doing sweepstakes over 30 years received 4 phone calls telling me I had won. One very nice follow up call telling my $5,000 check had been shipped UPS.

I rec'd my 1st sweeps call just a few weeks ago...It was for winning a grill from the Bic Tailgate Sweeps. Have only been sweeping for a little over a year.......

:wave:Thank you for repsonding. Sounds like no one really needs to wait by the phone, but just in case, I will keep it by me anyways! GLTA!

We received two phone calls about wins - one telling us that my husband won an awesome trip to Texas courtesy of GM and one for our trip to London!

Those of you that did recieve a call for your win: did the sponsor/company name show up on call ID? Just like Loren, I dont answer unknowns or 1-800 numbers either. So I'd like to know if I need to change my telephone (non)answering ways.

I have received phone calls from the local radio stations each time I have won a prize, and the first one is the one that got me hooked on sweeping. All the calls from national contests were always sales pitches up until the last two weeks in which I received calls for two prizes. First one was $100 from Shoes for Crews, second call was grand prize in the Bravo B-hive sweep, which I did not accept.

I am curious as to what caller ID says when its a winning call.... I get maybe 50 calls a day from either 800... or no caller ID... I am to the point I no longer answer if thats what is on caller ID. I have been worried that I may miss the call. I started answering them again so I didn't miss one. That became way too crazy so I've stopped again.....Hope I don't miss one, also hope caller ID says Sears or whatever... Thanks, Debbie

Thanks guys! y'all answered my question. It'd kinda nice if they gave you a box on the entry form asking what method of contact you would prefer tho. Thanks again for the replies and good luck to all!

Hi. I've won several sweeps (apx. 50-70) but only one that was $500.00. I never have received a call on my wins. It's a good post since I often wonder and I liked to know what fellow sweeps members had to say.

I was a $1,000 winner on the Who wants to be a Millionaire sweeps. The call came in as Unknown, so I didn't answer it. About and hour later, the same thing happened, and again I didn't answer it. Again, in a couple of hours, I got a call from Unknown again. This time I said I better just answer this because it's the only way I'll get rid of whoever is calling. That's when I found out I was the winner! When I went back to read the rules, it said they would make 3 attempts to reach you by phone, and if they couldn't reach you after 3 tries, the prize would go to someone else. Since then, I have been answering all Unknown calls! I have also received other winning calls for various prizes including a trip.
