NOT WINNING ANYTHING? Tips on WHY:

You should also do something else besides sweeping in your spare time, so you're not focused and obsessed with winning. I have managed to get lucky and win smaller contests on Facebook for movie tickets and anime con tickets. ^^

Try living as an Eagle over a Duck & see if that helps:

Ageless Words: Ducks Quack, Eagles Soar - Wayne Dyer

Ducks Quack, Eagles Soar - Wayne Dyer
No one can make you serve customers well. That's because great service is a choice.

Harvey Mackay, tells a wonderful story about a cab driver that proved this point.

He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey .

He handed my friend a laminated card and said: 'I'm Wally, your driver. While I'm loading your bags in the trunk I'd like you to read my mission statement.' Taken aback, Harvey read the card. It said: Wally's Mission Statement:
To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest and cheapest way possible in a friendly environment.

This blew Harvey away. Especially when he noticed that the inside of the cab matched the outside. Spotlessly clean! As he slid behind the wheel, Wally said, 'Would you like a cup of coffee? I have a thermos of regular and one of decaf.' My friend said jokingly, 'No, I'd prefer a soft drink.' Wally smiled and said, 'No problem. I have a cooler up front with regular and Diet Coke Sweepstakes, water and orange juice.' Almost stuttering, Harvey said, 'I'll take a Diet Coke.'
Handing him his drink, Wally said, 'If you'd like something to read, I have The Wall Street Journal, Time, Sports Illustrated and USA Today.'

As they were pulling away, Wally handed my friend another laminated card. 'These are the stations I get and the music they play, if you'd like to listen to the radio.'

And as if that weren't enough, Wally told Harvey that he had the air conditioning on and asked if the temperature was comfortable for him.

Then he advised Harvey of the best route to his destination for that time of day.

He also let him know that he'd be happy to chat and tell him about some of the sights or, if Harvey preferred, to leave him with his own thoughts.

'Tell me, Wally,' my amazed friend asked the driver, 'have you always served customers like this?' Wally smiled into the rear view mirror. 'No, not always. In fact, it's only been in the last two years. My first five years driving, I spent most of my time complaining like all the rest of the cabbies do. Then I heard the personal growth guru, Wayne Dyer, on the radio one day.
He had just written a book called You'll See It When You Believe It.

Dyer said that if you get up in the morning expecting to have a bad day, you'll rarely disappoint yourself. He said, 'Stop complaining! Differentiate yourself from your competition. Don't be a duck. Be an eagle. Ducks quack and complain. Eagles soar above the crowd.''
'That hit me right between the eyes,' said Wally.

'Dyer was really talking about me. I was always quacking and complaining, so I decided to change my attitude and become an eagle. I looked around at the other cabs and their drivers. The cabs were dirty, the drivers were unfriendly, and the customers were unhappy. So I
decided to make some changes. I put in a few at a time. When my customers responded well, I
did more.'

'I take it that has paid off for you,' Harvey said. 'It sure has,' Wally replied. 'My first year as an eagle, I doubled my income from the previous year. This year I'll probably quadruple it.
You were lucky to get me today. I don't sit at cabstands anymore. My customers call me for appointments on my cell phone or leave a message on my answering machine. If I can't pick them up myself, I get a reliable cabbie friend to do it and I take a piece of the action.'

Wally was phenomenal. He was running a limo service out of a Yellow Cab. I've probably told that story to more than fifty cab drivers over the years, and only two took the idea and ran with
it. Whenever I go to their cities, I give them a call. The rest of the drivers quacked like ducks and told me all the reasons they couldn't do any of what I was suggesting.

Wally the Cab Driver made a different choice. He decided to stop quacking like ducks and start soaring like eagles.

I haven't won anything more than a song download, which doesn't even download to my computer , but to a page & you must become a member. But you know thats alright because this has become more of a hobby. If your into sweepstakes to "Get Rich", you better think again. I mean there are some nice prizes out there & people do win. But I'm talking about constant big wins, it'll never happen. Like Iv'e said I've pretty much have had a dry spell for over 2 years now.

The Sweeper's Credo:

Enter and forget it.

Always be happy for those who win - even when they win "your" prize - and be positive you will win.

Sweeping is a hobby that is all about timing. Especially for those elusive instants!
IF you enter at the exact right moment, you will win. If not? Sad to say you won't. But I assure you - it's nothing personal, and those who win a lot don't have any "secrets" - they are just consistent, persistent, and patient.

I really believe that if you go into it thinking you can't win, well, you'll MAKE yourself right so often you'll start believing it!!!

I truly do believe you have to have a positive attitude - don't get hung up on what others are doing - just focus on entering, then move on to something else - like posting so we can get to know you!!!

So hang in there - and enter, enter, enter - and you'll be posting a win before you know it!!! And remember - every day brings new opportunities to win!!!

You can't win the Lottery w/out buying a ticket....

It may sound kinda nuts, but I keep 2 important things in mind while sweeping:

1} I CAN win, I believe I WILL win, and I'll do my part by entering to win!!!

2} Wanting to win doesn't mean I will for sure win - it just means someone will for sure win what I'm entering for, and it *could* be me!!!

They may sound like they can't both be true, but I know from experience they are - lots of times other people won the prizes I *really* wanted to win, but then I'd win another prize I wanted just as much!

If you approach this as a fun hobby and as long as you keep it light, enjoying the various aspects of entering and discovering new products and services, you'll stick with it!

I was wondering if having the word “ sweeps” in my email is hurting my chances of winning? I haven’t won anything yet and I was wondering if contest sponsors don’t really like sweepers. Any thoughts? I would hate to change it now but if it is hurting me its best to know now.

Some see sweeping as a zero sum game, where if I win, you lose, but I view it a bit differently - opportunities abound for those willing to commit the time & energy, and while it doesn't give a return equal to our input, if we are consistent, persistent, and patient, the possibilities are endless!!!

Did you start sweeping convinced that you *would* win?
I ask because I'm convinced a good/positive attitude is essential for a sweeper.
I know I about went nuts my first 6 months seeing people winning left and right, sometimes the same people over and over for specific IW's, and I couldn't hit a thing. I allowed myself to get bitter and suspicious, which almost ruined sweeping for me.
When I finally realized it was all in the timing/luck of the draw, my attitude changed, I stopped looking inward and looked outward, helping others where I could, and I finally won! It was on an IW where you wrote a review, and someone asked if we'd help her family owned business. My focus was so intently on helping her out, I was shocked when it said congratulations!!!
This experience changed my attitude, and saved my hobby - and I came up with:

Ah mheber I see - you mean these links are dead - they got cut when the new forum was done & there were too many threads so they were removed and/or combined into other threads
Good point Ken - I can't believe I didn't think of that!!! :nono: :crazytongue:

Being able to control when/what I enter really keeps me from burning out on those days I just don't have the time/energy to enter ALL my sweeps so I don't miss out on the ones I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to win on!!! :sunny:

Custom Entry Sweepstakes categories has supplanted NOTES as my new fave!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

FYI - Google Blog Search was a specialized service of Google used to search blogs - It was discontinued in May 2011.

Here's my little secret for winning prizes. I look for blog giveaways that haven't been listed on SA or other contest sites by going to google blog search, which is down right now, so regular google then, and under tools select : time: past week. I then search for what I want to win, such as " blog giveaway trip." The huge group giveaways aren't worth my time, and clogging up my facebook and twitter so I enter giveaways with only a few options for entries. I have noticed that the ones where I have to email the blog host for an entry puts the odds most in my favor. I search those out by googling: giveaway subject line. I just won a Fandango gift card that way.

curmudgeon explains it well:
dexterlecter9, lets ignore the competition for awhile and look just at the sweep.

Games are for entertainment purposes only and have no bearing on the winning times. I always avoid them if I can.

A sweep must have winning times equal to the prizes being given away. No more, and no less. The potential winning times are randomly seeded through the term of the sweep. If the sweep is to run for 30 days and has 30 prizes then there will be 30 winning times. The winning time could be based on seconds, but usually it's minutes. There are 1,440 minutes in a 24 HR day x 30 days gives 43,200 “potential” winning times in 30 day sweep. Random means random, so any combination that equals 30 is possible. You could have one per day (unlikely), 30 winning times all on one day (highly unlikely) or any combination that results in 30 winning times over the term of the sweep. You could have have x number of days with one or more winning times followed by x number of days days with no winning times at all. If there is a winning time on a specific day, it will be randomly seeded over a 24 Hr period. If you're entering at 8 AM and the winning time is 10:15 AM, you're out of luck, 'cause it's the first person to enter on or after the winning time will get the win.

If the number of prizes is only 10 on a 30 day sweep, then there are only 10 times out of 43,200 “potential” winning times when you can win. The fewer the prizes, the fewer the winning times.

Live on the west coast? Then 8 AM for you is 11 AM for the east coast and thousands of people have already been entering. Most sweeps are set to run on Eastern Time, though a few use another time zone.

Finally, entry competition is a factor only if it occurs when there is a winning time. If there are 10,000 people entering a sweep and you and they all enter between 8 AM and 8:30 AM, the entry time is immaterial if there’s no winning time that day, or it’s later in the day.

If the times are truly random, then there should be as many winning times in the early morning when people are sleeping as there are at some other time of day. I would concentrate my entries there if I were able, as there are fewer entrants. I suspect that Midnight to 6 AM Eastern Time is probably the best as far as competition is concerned – remember time zones, that would be 9 PM to 3AM Pacific Time.

There are always exceptions and I meant to speak in generalities, so there are probably some exceptions to my comments.

If you figure out a “system” to locate the winning times, let me know will ya?

Use SA correctly. You need to click the links and fill out the entry forms to enter. SweepsCheck is a great tool, but checking it off does not enter you in the sweepstakes
.
