money asked for p&h???

i got a call stating i had received a $25.oo gift card to walmart and a money gas card. they asked for $2.99 for p&h. i was very reluctant to give my credit card number to him even for this amount but it sounds legit.now i am scared he has my cc number. do they routinly askfor p&h money? PLEASE HELP I AM VERY WORRIED thanks

there are some sweeps that state in the rules that you must pay P&H to receive your prize...that being said, 99.9% of legit sweeps DO NOT ask for credit card info or for you to pay anything. What sweeps did they say you won? Perhaps you should check the rules of that sweeps and see if the rules state you need to pay delivery costs. Either way, I would keep a close watch on my credit card.

i would whatch your credit card,i have never payed for p&h.do you remberr entering for this contest in the first place.this could very well be a scam. be careful.

:whistle: I would be worried too if I had given them my credit card information to someone over a blind phone call. Have never paid for postage on any prize although there are a couple that do state in the rules you will be responsible. In all these years I don't recall any asking for postage on gift cards. I would be calling my credit card company pronto. Good luck with that.

I was actually doing some reading online over the weekend and it said that when a sponsor is offering a sweepstakes, it is illegal to make the winner pay for shipping and handling. Watch your credit card very carefully or call your credit card company and ask for a new card - it is much better to be safe than sorry. There are so many scams out there and that may be one of them.

it's not illegal for sponsers to ask for s&h for a prize .... BUT they have to put it in the rules so that potential winners will know up front they will have to pay. what is illegal is if they hit you with it after the fact.

If a sponsor were to ask me to pay the "S/H" and request my credit card number I would have hung up on them! The internet is full of outright scam sweepstakes and by giving your credit card number, under the lure of receiving a prize, you have exposed yourself to fraud and identity theft!!

thanks everyone who talked to me about this. i must say ALL is well!! i called my cc company and there were no charged assoiated with this so i put a hold on my card. i think i might as well just get as new number and card, i just havent done it yet. i know what i did was soooo incxredibly stupid, i'm usually the one telling my daughters not to do this. i think i was just having a stupid moment. good to know about sponsors not charging tho. thanks again

I know for a fact that as a result of entering sweeps, my number has been sold to unscrupulous businesses/scam artists...... If you have caller ID, do an internet search on the phone number and you should see if other people have complaints. I do this for any number I do not recognize. I'm glad you were able to safeguard you credit card. :D

THANKSto everyone who responded to me. i never thot about doing a search with caller id which i do have, but this was on my cell phone!!! anyway lesson learned without too much grief thanks again
