Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I've been on this site maybe two weeks now? I began sweeping maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago now (I'm not really counting lol). I just wanted to introduce myself and share a little bit of my story with you all since so far I've seen that this is a very supportive and friendly community. Reading your posts definitely inspire me to keep this new hobby up!

So why did I start sweeping once I discovered it? Because I am a person who lost a lot and I am coming from practically nothing, so I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. In 2009, it was the worst year of my life for sure. My mom died of cancer after a long two year struggle with it, and because we lived in HUD housing, I was forced to move into a building for the elderly and disabled (I am 24 and fresh out college as of 2008, so I definitely don't belong here!). I am appreciative that Housing didn't just boot me out, but at the same time I had to leave my home of twelve years, I had to put my pets up for adoption... So in essence, I lost my mom, my home, and my pets all in one swoop.

Surviving has been hard, I've done various minimum wage jobs but in my town jobs are few and far between and most are seasonal and part time with not enough hours to live on. I am lucky to be in federal subsidized housing since my rent is based on my income, but I don't want to be here forever. The ambulance pulls up here at least once or twice a week to pull people out in gurneys and this is not a good place for a young artist to be...

So why do I sweep? The chance to get out of here and have enough money to live out in the "normal" world... a shot at moving to a place of my own choosing that might actually have "careers" and not just minimum wage, get nowhere jobs. In July I was a dishwasher and the job was so miserable I decided to quit and start up my own freelance art business, and I've been doing that ever since. In the beginning I wasn't making enough to pay my super low rent or my very few bills (All I have is car insurance, WoW, internet and phone lol). But eventually I started to get more art commissions and now I finally made enough to pay rent and bills for at least a few months. I never make enough to actually buy things, and when I do have to buy things, I only buy necessities like toiletries or needed kitchen stuff. It's been two years now since I bought anything just because I wanted it lol I've gotten used to having nothing and living bare minimally, but now that I know about sweeping, I'll try my hand at getting some nice free stuff! I'm also hopeful to win things I can sell so I can live a few more months worry free. So if I win any HDTVs or even a car, you bet I am selling it! Money to live for me is more important than luxury items.

So I really believe in this, for these past two years I tried and tried to find out about ways to make money to improve my situation, thinking outside the box. All I found were work at home scams and that the lottery is impossible, and everything "cost money to make money." But sweeping? FREE! Hallelujah! It's like playing the lotto for free! Amazing. So I have a very positive attitude and I have been through a lot, I know things can only get better from here on out as I have my entire life ahead of me. I will win something, I know I will, and I am so excited for when it happens! My mom in heaven and Jesus are on my side and I'll pray for a big win!

So far I have won a contest and got 5 free sessions at my local Curves, so it's a start!

Anywho, if y'all wonder what I do to survive, I'm a freelance (Anime style) illustration artist and I do have a website: http://www.emilycammisa.com

So yeah lol that's me and my story, anyone else have any good stories of going from "rags to riches" from sweeping? Or having a tough time be turned around with a sweep win? I'm curious to hear about it! You all inspire me to keep plugging away at this :)

:sunny: Hi Emily! Thanks for introducing yourself to us. You have a very touching story. Visited you site and you really are very talented. As far as your housing goes, althought it may not be what you had envisioned for yourself, it is a roof over your head. Sometimes in life we just have to look around and see that although it may not be perfect, it is still better than what alot of others have for themselves. If you keep working hard your dreams can come true. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. Perhaps there is a reason you are where you are suppose to be at this time. Maybe someone there needs someone like you to brighten their day.
I have been sweeping for many years. It's a great hobby. I have won thousands of things over the years. Just about anything you can dream of can be won. My house if full of stuff that didn't cost me anything except the time I spent entering. If you remain persistant, consistant and patient you can also win just about anything you want. Alot of sweepers do sell their wins to get the extra cash they need.
Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the encouraging words! I hope I don't come off sounding ungrateful or unappreciative of where I currently live, I am really glad I have a roof over my head, and my place is a small studio apartment, but I keep it very clean. I get good heat and hot water and it's nice to have a place to call my own. I don't really know many of the people in my building since most of them are severely mentally ill. I'm not really good at handling psychiatric patients... My mom was though lol She was a psych nurse for 18 years. I mainly keep to myself. I'm probably the youngest person in this building too. But I will keep your words in mind. If I ever am out and about and see someone who needs help or see an opportunity to show an act of kindness, I definitely will.

As for the sweeping, that's great you've gotten so many useful things! I sent out sweeps for a few things I would love to have, like a juicer and a George Forman grill. Just little odds and ends that would make my life easier. I also have two friends who are pregnant so I've been sweeping for bottles and baby stuff, so if I win any of it I can help them out :) It's be great to be able to actually give nice things to the people I care about, since I never have the money to do anything for anyone. So sweeping is not just a win-win for me but it can be a win for them too hehe Hopefully I will be posting some winning news soon :D
