Is this the future of Sweeps?

Re: : Is this the future of Sweeps?

amyshulk[QUOTE=rayz2005I am confused about the "2 a week" prizes. Are all the entries rolled over or are previous entries discarded every week?[/QUOTE said:
Depends - if I add it/enter it, Ill note that in the COMMENTS/body of the listing. :smt004
I did answer you rayz2005 - to the best of my abilities :smt004

Basically, you have to check the rules :smt002

Sorry about that, Amyshulk! I guess I will have to pay more attention to the rules and any available comments that accompanies the sweepstake listing. Thank you.

No worries rayz2005 - I do know what you are asking, I just can't give a one size fits all answer :smt002

I tend to approach this hobby differently than most I think - I consider each new day as a fresh start. I focus on daily sweeps and IW's - (I just entered my weekly/a few of my monthly sweeps for the 1st time since the start of this year!!! :smt018 :smt015 :smt003

Anyway - I know from experience you only need 1 entry to win, whether it's a 1x, daily, or even unlimited sweeps - so each new day I consider to BE that possible 1 entry!!! :smt002

I have yet to win a biggie, but I've won many daily/weekly/monthly prizes by consistently entering and forgetting about it :smt004

Here's a link to a thread I need to update, but it will give you a general idea:

I will continue to note if entries roll over - in the listing if I add it, or the comments if I only enter it/notice people asking about it - but feel free to add a comment if you see it's not already posted :smt002

Here's the thing I've noticed about where the sweeps are heading. If you're not paying complete attention, they sign you up for things, like magazine subscriptions or DVD/CD clubs. It's annoying because they either automatically check the yes box and you have to make sure you check NO, or even worse, they have a box that you have to check NOT got get signed up or you are automatically. How annoying, when I fond out who they are from, I just won't bother with their sweeps or with that company for that matter. That's sneaky and NO way of doing proper business. :smt019 :smt013

Many, many sweepstakes have boxes already checked off signing up the entrant for things they probably don't want. As a sweeper, it's also our responsibility to look over each and every form to make sure it's filled out the way we want it to be filled out before submitting it and/or saving it to Roboform.

I used to do a seach using words like Winner, Congradulations just as a double check. Now with all this :smt019 I'm getting UK lottery, etc. I have to read every one just in case. Like the Static Guard one I won a couple of months ago. I was not on original list so I guess they didn't get responses and picked more winners. It was a great prize.
There are lots of things I don't get and they don't end up in my Spam folder. I haven't received a SA newletter in months. I get a notice of response to a forum post for about every 10th message.
And the biggest irration of all is my library notices are being bounced, so I have to go check my account every couple of days to see if anything I requested is available for pick-uo.
I have a new trick for the lottery, begging, etc. notices. I just copy the "respond to" address and forward the next one to them. Don't know if it works, but I get some preverted satisfaction.
I sign up for newsletters and they send me several a day. I seem to spend more time unsubcribing and cleaning up my Inbox than I do reading my legit emails.
LOL but I keep entering all the ones for Paris and cash.

Everytime you get a spam lottery win notice, it's from a totally different email address. They change their email address practically everyday if not more, so you cannot get rid of them.

Plus, never ever respond in anyway to them. They can accumulate more information from you that way. Just delete them and hope that one day they will finally come to an end, because the FTC was finally able to do something about it.

Oh, I forward to [email protected] also and hope someday some solution will be found.
one thing I did read recently was a yahoo address is usually spam (the you have won emails) and yahoo does not monitor (whatever you call it) for legit.

: Is this the future of Sweeps?

They not only have been using Yahoo but just about any "free" email account. You can also tell that many are not coming from overseas. Most are coming from this country. You can tell by the email address, because it does not have a country id in in--i.e. Germany would have "de" at the end of it. So, alot of the scamming is coming from right here at home.

Hey, I wanted to agree with SweepsAdv's message here:

Having shipped many prizes and ran many sweepstakes and giveaways on SA it never ceases to amaze me how members forfeit their wins because they did not respond in time to claim their prize.

Last year, I won a $1,000 check from MSN specifically because someone forfeited the win by not responding, and of course no one voluntarily turns down CASH. Also, two years ago when I first got the sweeping bug, I heard complaints like the original - too many sweepers, and dwindling prizes. At the time, I would have agreed with them. Last year, it seemed like there were LOTS of prizes, and this year, less. I do think this is a cyclical thing, and the economy is going to play into it a lot, too.
