Is this a scam??

I received a phone message from a sweepstakes company stating I was a potential winner in the camel sweepstakes Crush Away sweepstakes ($5000). By the time I called back at 4 pm they were gone. The original recording gave me a reference code so I tried to confirm the number with Camel but they could not say if it was legit or not. My concern is if I call and they request personal information and I do not give it I forfeit the prize.

The phone number of the sweepstakes message is 1-800-257-3774. Has anyone received a winning prize with this number as a contact? I really appreciate the help.

first of all, did you enter the Camel Crush Away sweeps? second, google the phone number and see if people have posted complaints. third, if it was for $5000 you will need to sign paperwork most likely in front of a notary, so if they ask for more than your address tell them you will provide the needed info in the affy when they send it. fourth, wow CONGRATS! hope it is a real win!

Excellent advice from Colleen!

Thanks for the advice. Yes I did enter into the sweepstakes and I did google the number. I saw a couple responses appearing to be legitimate regarding a prize distribution company called YoungAmerica. My big concern with this was that the contest ended beginning of July and that winners were to be notified express mail as well as a winning notification to be sent to the Camel mailbox. Neither of those happened. Well I guess I will call tomorrow morning and see what they ask for. Thanks again.

I thought I saw that people had already been called about that one. But if someone didn't get their paperwork back in time they may have re-drawn and you may be a second chance winner.

The fact that the sweeps ended the beginning of July wouldn't be of any concern to me since many sweeps seem to take for ever to disperse the prizes. And as goldenpaso said you may be a second chance winner for someone who missed the deadline for whatever reason. good luck and keep us updated!

snassar sounds legit & I agree, you were probably a 2nd chance draw winner - even though they say in the rules that Unclaimed prizes will not be awarded.

So I get why you are concerned!

The potential winners will be notified by express mail on or about July 22, 2014 and will be required to complete, sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability Release and, where lawful, a Publicity Release within seven (7) days of notification. If documents are not returned in a timely manner, or if any prize notification or prize is returned as non-deliverable, or if a winner is found to be ineligible or otherwise not in compliance with these Official Rules, prize may be forfeited. After the completion of the random drawing to be held on or about July 8, 2014, log in to your account at www.Camel.com using your PID and password and view your My Feed on your Dashboard to see if you have won a prize. Prizes will be awarded to the winners within 6-8 weeks of verification.

Sponsor is not responsible for any change of email address, mailing address and/or telephone number of entrants. Federal, state and local income and other taxes on the prizes, and any other fees or costs associated with the prizes, if any, are solely the responsibility of the winners, regardless of whether the prize, in whole or in part, is used. Winners may be required to provide Sponsor with a valid social security number or tax identification number before the prize will be awarded for tax reporting purposes. Winners will be issued an IRS 1099 tax form for the actual value of the prize.

Wow! The win is legit. $$5,000. The paper work is coming in the next 3 days. I didn't need to provide any additional details than what Camel already knows. Never, never would I have thought I would win anything like this. Thank you for all the advice. Crazy thing is that when I called Camel/RJReynolds to inquire directly they said that they do not recommend I respond since they typically don't outsource the wins. Big company so I must have asked the wrong operator.

whoo hoo So glad it is legit! And just think ... you should have the money in plenty of time for Christmas shopping! no credit card bills for you this year!

That is just AWESOME snassar!!!
