Is the economy really that bad?

According to Louisiana's economy status, they have yet to feel the impact that the rest of the country is feeling--never say never and be prepared for what appears to be looming down the road.

Oh I never say never. I can just go back to Texas lol

This would be one of my last things to get the ax also...this is my stress relief right here. It has been since Momma died and I think I would go crazy if I couldn't get online and blow off steam.

I do watch a lot of what people buy because I am nosy like that, and I see people buying more and more generics brands and more staples than fillers. Getting back to basic.

Christmas is a different story and people do spend for their children, but even I am cutting back on what we are buying. Yes they will get more than enough, but I am cutting out all the little junk that I usually get. Both of the girls got new bedding and stuff for their rooms earlier this year and that is gonna have to be counted as part of their Christmas.

The price of products/groceries have definitely gone up, up, up. Despite the tremendous drop in gas prices, diesel continues to stay at an optimum price. Therefore, the price of goods won't be coming down any time soon unless diesel starts dropping.

These so-called deals/sales for Christmas are nothing to compare to from Christmas past. I just don't see any good enough deals to motivate me to purchase.

I think many people are being irresponsible in these economic times and are charging more rather than paying cash which is only going to make more things difficult for them down the road and make the banks even richer and make our economy worse from the increased public debt.

People need to learn to cut back and not be afraid to disappoint all because all the presents their children expect aren't under the tree.

Diesel has dropped. It is 50% lower than at its high over the summer. The problem being is that we are just starting to get hit with the price increases from when it was high. And, as we all know, what goes up doesn't always come back down! Don't forget, Diesel began climbing long before gas and was at $4 per gallon last winter. We are now paying anywhere between $2.50 - $2.89 a gallon now.

Also, Diesel is close to its seasonal peak demand due to home heating fuel. So, any further decrease in diesel won't be as dramatic as gas until spring arrives.

I dont pay attention to other people. the wal mart is busy but people still need to buy groceries no matter how bad it is.. other than that I can only speak for me and my situation. the last couple of months have been rough. my husband was working half days or not at all because the places he delivers too were cutting back.. so it messed up us too.people are losing their jobs left and right here. And we are getting less and spending more. just because people are shopping doesnt mean anything really. this is a society of living beyond our means.. thats what credit cards are for.

Go by your local unemployment office for the real story. or see how many people are shopping at thrift stores and places like good will.. they are slammed I bet.

I also think people here are holding on to their clothing and possessions rather than buying new. The goodwill has launched a new ad campaign for donations and the local media is plugging for them too. So, no stock for their stores!

It is really getting sad.

Diesel here hasn't budged here. It's up around $3.40+/gallon and holding.

Honestly, compared to it's high over the summer that is great. We paid $5.25 a gallon at the peak. It is actually at a price now where owners can make a slight profit again.

Gas has finally come down to where it was 4 years ago and Im loving it. When we first got our mini van it cost almost 80.00 to fill it up.. we filled up over the weekend for just under 35.00.. :headbang: that helps alot. the high price of gas was adding a good $200-250.. a month to our budget.. not good.

Diesel is still a little high here too. hope it comes down also.

Up until recent years, diesel has always cost less per gallon than gas. Gas has just made a horrendous drop in a short period of time, but diesel hasn't done all that much. Consumer product will more than likely remain high until there is a considerable drop in diesel for the trucking companies to justify reducing their rates. Then there's the tariff rates to contend with.

We don't have a mall. But the feed store is still doing a pretty good business. A lot more people have started raising livestock (goats and chickens are popular) to supplement their food budget. The guy I was talking to said chicken sales had been dropping till this year, then the price of eggs got high enough for people to go "hey, I can keep those things in the yard!"

I want to raise chickens and then I can go to the mall and sell my eggs.

Just out of curiosity, do you know what year it is?
