Inserting pictures

How do you guys insert all the cool graphics and pictures with your replys? I see all of these neat "congrats" with art work and I can't seem to get the hang of it. I thought I could copy and paste - NO Then I thought I would just click and drag - NO So, how do people that actually know what they are doing do it?

most use a hosting site like> http://www.imageshack.us/ to put there pictures in and to post congrats from that are from the site
