I have a question about a trip win please...

I apologize up front about asking this, I did a search, maybe not a great search, but a search to see if I could find the answer without bothering anyone about this. I didn't find anything conclusive so here I am. I won a trip in October but won't be taking it till May of 2015. If I am correct, do I file this on my 2015 taxes instead of my 2014 taxes? I wanted to be sure before I added it to my taxes in a few months...Thanks for your reply and I hope I am not posting this in the wrong area?

Nice win, faeriemoon9. You posted in the right place, but I don't know the answer. I will search also, but I am hoping someone who knows will reply. :)
 
I found lots of information online, and I did find an answer to your question, but I don't know if it is correct. It is best to check with your tax accountant or preparer.

"You only have to claim a trip prize on taxes AFTER you have taken the trip. When we won the France trip back in 2001 we didn’t actually take the trip until 2002 so we claimed it on our taxes in April 2003. That sure helps."
