How did the debate go?

 I just thought the analogy was great. I wasn't talking about McCain but I do disagree with you though.

Anyways I'm out of here for at least a month. I'll be with my dad who will be having his skin cancer removed.

Have a great election night everyone.

OK I found this someplace else and really thought it was a great analogy.

A Father/Daughter Talk

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of ''the redistribution of wealth.''

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, ''How is your friend Audrey doing?''

She replied, ''Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus, college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.''

Her wise father asked his daughter, ''Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.''

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, ''That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!''

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, ''Welcome to the Republican party.''

That reminds me of when I was in college - I was in my 30's {HS dropout at 16, 11 years in the Navy} and in one of my classes, the teacher was asking questions on the material we had studied. She made it really easy to learn it, btw.

Anyway, she aksed, and only I had the answers, so she suggested only I take the test, and everyone would get MY grade!!!

I was so shocked I blurted - especially since the whole class was LOUD in their agreement - NO WAY!!!

I grew up with Rep. parents, and didn't agree with them when I was a teen, but as an adult, the thought that others would benefit from MY hard work angered me.

I am now a Libertarian - I just cannot reconcile myself with either major party, since they BOTH benefit from OUR hard work, but don't do much in return.

That is hilarious! Did you also see this Thurs when Will Ferrell was on as W? By far, he is the best! SNL is great this year.

People are actually getting that email? I hadn't seen it. Thanks for posting the link.

Oh yeah, and worse....The one about Bush having Obama knocked off an making himself president for life is causing the most problems on my other list. I'll be so glad when the election is over.

Fear not, the people may be deluded for a moment, but cannot be corrupted.
Andrew Jackson

All I can say is WOW. I just read this in my paper and HOPE it isn't used to say "I told you so"!!! :nono:

It makes me ill to think that we are trending towards electing a President who was complicit in our present financial crises - how can I possibly expect anything different if he is indeed elected, and congress attains their golden "filibuster proof" goal??? :nono:

And he's absolutely right that if it had been the other party who knowingly destroyed us all, it would have been front page news - re: "-gate" -

So now when people say there is a liberal bias in the media, I have to agree - How can people not see it and what else do they have in store for us under the auspices of helping out those less fortunate???

Whatever happened to taking personal responsibility???

Do any of these people {politicians/journalists} realize what they've done??? :nono:

The Obama campaign issued a statement by Raines on Thursday night insisting, "I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters." Obama spokesman Bill Burton went a little further, saying in an e-mail that the campaign had "neither sought nor received" advice from Raines "on any matter."

mccain and freddie and fannie..

In an Wall Street Journal op-ed co-bylined by his vice presidential pick, Sarah Palin, McCain suggested bold reforms for Fannie and Freddie that would "terminate future lobbying, which was one of the primary contributors to this great debacle."

If that's the case, McCain should look first to his campaign staffers as the cause of that debacle. One of them was Fannie Mae's head of lobbying, and spread tens of millions of dollars around Washington in the form of lobbying contracts. A number of McCain staffers were on the receiving end of those contracts, collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars each from the lenders to rep their interests. And McCain's campaign manager served as president of a lobbying association that fought to protect Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae from the sort of regulation that McCain is now proposing.

the point of my links are to show that both candidates had/have some contact with freddie and fannie. While freddie and fannie did contribute to the meltdown they are not the only cause of the crisis. poor people getting homes they could not afford was only part of the problem. The mortgage companies and banks took full advantage of the situation for their own gain... Many, Many things led us to this.

The polls are so close right now Bush might have to be president for another six months while the lawyers and the supreme court sort the election out (look of abject terror as she considers a hopeless, thankless future deleting yet more off topic political flame wars)

I do agree that BOTH parties were complicit - hence my fear that ONLY the 2 main parties are even in contention for the seat!!!

That article just brought home how the journalists are selective in who gets slammed, so the info doesn't get out. :nono:

Before January, every person I spoke to was for Hillary, and they really feel their party stabbed her in the back in favor of Barak - one even stated he'd vote for John instead!!! :crazytongue:

I can find things I like and dislike coming from both parties, and of ALL of them, only Joe (Biden) seems in any way Presidential, but his politics are not mine.

Heck, none of their politics are mine, since I can't count on any of them to be Libertarians!!!

What I meant to say was only the 2 major parties get the media coverage.

If everyone of us who is sick of the 2 party system voted for who we prefer, from my earlier link, the vote split would be such that NOBODY would be the "popular/by majority of 51%" winner!!!

Politics by nature is divisive - so people hold their noses and vote against the other guy, since nobody truly believes the little guy {David} can best our present day Goliaths. :nono:

Not at all! The media tends to paint it as close to get more viewers. Check out the poll aggregate sites that focus on electoral votes:

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/
http://www.electoral-vote.com/

These are the two I have links for, but there are many more that agree with these numbers whether they are biased (either way) or neutral. It's practically a done deal (although being a pessimist I won't relax until 11/5).

I hope those are right. honestly I cant wait for the 4th to hurry up and get here. My stomach is all in knots just thinking about it. I have never been terrified about a potential presidency in all my life(mccain/palin for those just checking in)

Did anyone watch the Obama infomercial last night? Even though im not undecided I still watched it. He looks like a president and just watching him makes me think we will have a president we can be proud of. go Obama!.
