HELP this is what they said!

Congratulations on your potential win in the Indie Film Junkie Sweepstakes!

This is a follow-up email regarding your potential win. According to the official rules, this promotion is only open to people enrolled in a college or university at the time of entry.

Therefore, in order to claim the student membership to Film Independent that you potentially won, you will need to return proof of your enrollment in a college or university. The most likely method would be a school ID card.

I still have my ID .. I dont even know what I won!

It could be any of these

Grand Prize: Trip for 2 to the 2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Los Angeles, CA. Trip includes airfare, hotel, tickets to the awards, and $1,000 spending money. (ARV: $11,000)
instant win Prizes:
1st Prizes (10): AIPTEK ICAM 2.4 inch Blue Camcorder. (ARV: $99.99)
2nd Prizes (250): 1-year student membership to Film Independent. (ARV: $60)
3rd Prizes (778): A digital code redeemable for a movie download from Amazon.com. (ARV: $15)

Per the rules, if you were not enrolled in college or a university at the time of entry, you should not have entered; and you would not be eligible for the prize. You're going to have to let them know this.

I would say you won: 2nd Prizes (250): 1-year student membership to Film Independent. (ARV: $60)
OH well live and learn! No getting around that one!

Agreed.

destined2win - most of us {when we started} entered anything and everything - over time, we learn what to do/what we should & can enter for, so don't think you're the only one to have ever done this!!!

Don't beat yourself up over it - learn from it & move on - I'm betting you will ALWAYS check the rules from now on, lol!!!

Hi, I know it is tempting to claim the win, but you really don't want to. You will always feel guilty and it will bother you. The rules say enrolled in college at the time of entry, so you should really tell them the truth, and maybe you will be surprised, I won a contest once, then found out it was for under the age of 25, I am way past 25, Well I called and told them, and they were so impressed I told the truth they sent me a constalation package. The truth is always the best. I really wish you luck to win a contest you qualify for and a prize you love.

I would personally email them back and apologize for entering when I didn't qualify.

I agree with what everyone else has said about being honest w/ the sponsor. Also, as Kathleen stated, it does appear that the student membership is what you were chosen for, not one of the other prizes. From their message to you...

... to claim the student membership to Film Independent that you potentially won, you will need to return proof of your enrollment in a college or university.

It was geared for college students.. and had a box that you had to specifically check that says "yes I am a student" or you could not enter.

What part of that was hard to understand?

I think you need to let them know you don't qualify and let it go. When I see a contest I do not qualify for, no matter how bad I might want the prize, I do not enter. If I DID enter and didn't qualify and won, I would NOT be dishonest and try to pull a fast one. This is one of those times when you have to take your lumps, sorry to say.

Yep, been there done that. I won a texas only sweeps once, it was really a cool prize but I just chauked it up to my being a dummy cause I never lived in texas

There is nothing you really can do - you don't meet their qualifications so you probably are not going to get the prize.

Personally I would just delete the email or email a "thank you, I apologize" back. Being dishonest will just come back to bite you in the end anyway.

Just make sure to be on top of the rules from now on - I know I wasn't at first. ;) You live and learn (or so my mom says to me nearly everyday!).

You probably dont need my 2 cents too, but of course I agree with what others have said. I'd never pretend in order to win something. My conscience would never let me do that ha I'm sure you'll read the rules from now on.. hard way to learn that. but... I'm sure you'll win something else great soon!!! ((hugs))

Thanks everyone for the posts.. I would have posted earlier but had computer problems.. complete system wipe out! LOL

No I emailed them the next day and told them I graduated a long time ago and that I didnt qualify.. I also thanked them for choosing me..

I couldnt live with the fact that I scammed a sweeps.. I did like thinking about the win though, it keeps us going! Especially when you havent won much! LOL
