So as the story goes, I received an email while camping at a Nascar track (Watkins Glen NY) and I had no Wifi and my hotspot wasn't good enough to use computer. The email I received seemed suspicious as words were misspelled. So I got excited but then concerned. I filled out the information anyhow, and today I got 2 5-k gift cards in 2 separate emails. So to do my due diligence I reached out to Hellmans and (Unilever) TopBox marketing to confirm emails were legit.

So Yeah Me !!! Now confirmed, I'm excited and trying to figure out what I want to do with them and where I may want to go..!! :p:eek::oops: 🎉🎉Although I wished it was in a check and not gift cards as they can be hard to use in certain circumstances... But Heck Yeah nice 10k WIN. And not my biggest win, in case anyone is wondering.. Thanks SA, for without you this may not of been possible !! TY TY

Congratulations (so jealous that you got to camp at the NASCAR track - I have not been to Watkins Glen)
Thanks !! And I camp almost every year there, but hate I cant do contest while there lol. 😉And I couldnt check email to confirm while I was there... But was shocked this am, to find it was real weeks later. 🎉

Congrats! Are the giftcards VISA or Master Cards? If so, I would pay bills with them and also send the IRS (and your state/local tax agency if applicable) a quarterly estimated tax payment using those cards to take care of your tax burden for the prize. You could also add them to a payment app such as Paypal and transfer some to your checking account though you will be charged a fee for doing so.

People on 1099's send in quarterly taxes since no taxes are taken out from their initial wages/income. Think people such as gig workers, dog walkers, people working on all commission such as Realtors, etc. They send in what they estimated to owe to the IRS every quarter. In your case, it wouldn't be every quarter. You would be sending them a one time payment for one quarter so that you don't get hit with a big surprise tax bill when filing next year. I believe it's Form 1040-ES. Just google or go on the IRS website for info. Very easy to do. I would also do this for your local/state tax authority. You would have to research what the procedure to that would be. Then when you file next year for 2024, you will see a line where it asks if you prepaid estimated taxes. You would fill in this amount and that amount would be credited to you in figuring out the total tax, if any, you owe for that filing year. Keep in mind, there would be credit card processing fees.

Thank You, very much. I'll look into that

Glad to hear of your latest Big Win from Hellmans. Also glad to hear SA helped you. Thanks for being a Plus Upgrade subscriber! Good luck to all.

I would never have thought that "hawkmarketplace.com" would be a legitimate email sender, especially for Hellman's. Good for you for checking it out. I'm sure I would have deleted the email. You did your due diligience, I'm just going to have to be more diligent.

And the notification email was pretty informal and had misspellings. So it definitely felt like scam. So sometimes you have to pay extra close attention, and reach out to the company. I'd really like to let them know (Hellmans) how informal and easy that would be to dismiss.
