Have companies cut back on sweeps?

:cry:I have been entering sweeps for a few years and normally at Xmas time there are tons of xmas sweeps. Not so many this year. December is usually the month I win the most due to volume. This December nothing.

i have notice that too - no big sweeps from Kraft/nabisco or the cool one last year that gave away the wreaths or centerpieces or no Priceless.com

:headbang: I have been a sweeper since 1983 and I have never seen so little sweeps activity and a dearth of good prizes for this last year.

Yeah, there is definately a decreased amount of good sweeps this year, especially now. This could be due to the recession. Or, it could be something more sinister.:fired:

The rise of the dreaded BLOG "sweeps" has swamped the internet. Unfortunately, this could be a trend, as more large companies offer prizes to bloggers to offer/promote on their sites. However, blogs are a royal pain-in-the-neck, and I rarely mess with them due to the time-intensiveness of the blogs' entry requirements. Besides, by and large, the majority of these Blog "sweeps" are for very small prizes. In fact, wouldn't Blog "sweeps" actually be called "contests", since most of them require that the entrants do something to enter for the prize being offered...not merely fill out a form. Bleh. :sleepy:

yeah I too noticed that. I was looking forward to dec. xmas sweeps as I usually did ok but there r so little now. Even the usual yearly Honda sales one is not going now but their commercials and sale is. I also see a lot of those blog sweeps and H8 them.... thank goodness there r still some though.

I don't see any decline. Especially now, companies need to promote themselves more. Sponsors are also taking advantage of blog sites to run sweepstakes through. I've seen a lot of great prizes being given away through blog sites.

What I've noticed is the amount of sweeps with prizes I'd like to win waxes and wanes so it seems like there are less than usual.

They all seem to offer the same type of GP {ie Trips} around the same time, and I don't travel, so it "feels" like there is zilch to enter for when that rolls around - but I always figure the next fad prize will be cash/electrionics so I just wait it out

Plus, with so many sponsors switching from entry forms/logins to blogs/facebook/twitter it makes the prizes available seem even smaller if you prefer to skip those types.

I notice a decrease in the instants. I think there are fewer prizes in the instants. i think there were far less christmas instants this year.
blogs give away some really awesome prizes. I enter the ones i want. i don't enter baby blogs , cause i don't have a baby. but, all the other ones i try and enter. there are a couple giving away those brand new HP touch computers. i want one.

but, i only see a major decrease in the instants. those used to be the ones that i won alot on in the past. now adays, i very rarely win on an instant.

Hi thumbalina  Like to post with or around ya.
I noticed less sweeps this year it seems.

My opinion on blogging contest is I usually sign up for the newsletter to something I do not want to read and then I post something which means little to anyone and I never win one to date. If it requires votes no matter what the contest how do some get 1200 votes when mostly everyone else gets a 100 or a little more? I am missing sumpin so unless it says "if ya post a pic" you win I will do no more of the voting kind.

I sure hope sweeps come back in numbers. I love them but being sick this Christmas means I did not enter very many. You never know some contest have been going on a year and maybe a special win is still in the making for me and all of you!

hello halandt!
i was wondering the same thing about blog contest with voting pictures. i thought maybe if you vote for other people it would boost up your numbers , but sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case, i voted so much for others and my entry still remained at the same numbers.

Sending get well wishes your way. And I've got my fingers crossed that you win something awesome really soon , for the New Year. God Bless.

I was just looking for a perfect place to post. This is it! I to notice a decrease in the number of what I consider actual sweeps. For a short while there was an explosion of Blogs, which I don't care for. But now there are alot of "Facebook" or "Twitter" sweeps, which I don't fully understand, but none the less I don't believe they belong in the "Daily" sweeps, but maybe under their own title. Because their not regular sweeps. Then you have sweeps that have been up all year, such as Lane H.F. who right up to the end worked fine then, suddenly didn't work, I checked Lane out they had a website that worked fine, NO mention of any sweeps. And there were a few more that I was entering regularly, same thing happened, or like the monthly winner of the "Bail Out-tax free moneys"(Overstock). Ends 12/31/09, according to the rules. After entering it stated: Next winner chosen January 31st, 2010. What about the winner for 12/31/09? Makes you wonder if alot of the so called sweeps are just for advertising anymore. Hardly anyone wins. To bad. I to have been in a slump, but when the contests up & disappear just as quickly as they appeared, it really makes you wonder! Even all the magazines that are advertising the $100,000.00 winner last year, they did the same thing, therefore they can declare "No Winner!"

I just read some rules http://universal.promo.eprize.com/holiday09/?affiliate_id=bruno
They, which I did not know, state that there is 15 sites to enter and you may enter 15 times only a day. This is a great place ePrize and oh oh that much money is beyond my dreams. Rules mean everything because you cannot believe the times I disqualified myself by mistake before I started reading them.

Oh gosh LIDARKSIDE then that means I just never won them. Dagnabbit! Oh well I am happy to read that! I am still waiting on my big one. I sure hope it is soon. 18 months of sweeping, loving it, frustrated with it, delighted with it and doing less and then more. Having a hobby and meeting new people who share the hobby is the best part and the prizes. Things I never could have had without sweeps like presents which were out of my financial reach before and food when the cupboards were bare and dreams and hope. Most of all THANK YOU SPONSORS!!!

I wouldn't worry about being disqualified, because it is so seldom that any sponsor would completely disqualify a person for submitting more entries than allowed. Almost no sponsor will do that. They simply delete any extra entries other than the initial one. It usually states that in the rules.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Hearst magazine contests are all only one contest. I enter because I just hope I get lucky. It's no worse than buying one mega millions ticket. I hate the sweeps that make you jump through hoops to try to win something. I don't really want to write a 500 word essay about my personal life. When I do, I regret it later, especially since I never win them.
I have been avoiding the twitter/ facebook ones unless the prizes are fabulous, because I have to post them to spam my friends & family. My twitter page is really junked up.

The ones where you have to get the most votes to win are ridiculous. I have done some good designs for some contests, yet I never win because I can't get all the kids from some high school to vote. Are the contest sites too lame to judge the entries themselves? Well I am done venting, which was not what the thread was about (sorry) . I feel better now. Going to enter some sweeps. :crazytongue:

Facebook gives you the option to "skip" posting your entries into sweepstakes, so they don't show up on your wall and all your friends' walls.

I tried the "Skip" thing. Nothing happens, and I don't get entered into the contest. Right now I am entering the ones that end soon, and will delete them afterwords.

You have to click in the box that pops open with the options to "Publish" or "Skip". There is also an option to "Skip" for referring friends on the page that comes up afterwards. That one doesn't effect your entering or publishing. After you enter a sweepstakes and choose "Skip" in the pop-up box, it should either say "Congratulations..." at the very top for entering or it might just take you to the Facebook sweepstakes listings page. Other than that, you don't get any other confirmation for entering. You should still be entered.

One more thing I have accidently ordered magazines doing those and had to cancel till I wrote Godd Housekeeping and explained about my dementia and they immediately fixed my accounts where they usually come up to the do not order screen. I actually was taking that magazine and trying to stop the new orders cancelled my own. I am too embarrassed to ask for them because it was my mistake. Hearst will do extras for you and I just love them. I have not won anything from them yet and I used to do each and everyone and the other prizes they usually have on each site but who knows I am a dreamer. It could happen today.
