:sunny: OK so today @ 11:15am this morning I receive a phone call on my cell phone. I answer it and a woman on the phone says congratulation to me that I won the trip for five to Orlando, FL. Now mind you that for a while I've been entering several different sweeps for a trip to Orlando, FL. Anyway, while im trying to keep my composure because I'm at work right now I get all excited and try to remain calm, I said to her, really I won a trip? She replied, yes and started to state my User ID (which is claim2fame) and my email, my date of birth and my address. She said they pulled my name from one of the surveys i completed online to win a trip. So at this point I was like WOW OMG I won a freakin trip. She then starts to go all into detail about the prize package I had won, which was a trip for 5 to Orlando, FL, along with a 3 day trip to Daytona Beach, followed by a 3 day stay in Maryland that I can take anytime within a year. I'm like really did I win all this?? Yes says yes ma'am and congratulations and asked me If I was married and how excited I am that I won. By this time the things running through my mind are, when am I going to put in my time to request off so I can take my kids to Disney world, you know all the typical planning stuff you do when you get ready to go on vacation. Oh, also with the deal in was an all expense paid trip along with a rental car being provided and all I would be responsible for paying was for the gas. So i had the option to drive to Orlando from Texas (which is where I live) or i could receive $100.00 off coupons to fly to Orlando. I said i wanted to fly. Driving from Texas to Orlando is just too far with kids in the car.

At this point I'm just still in disbelief that I have won a TRIP! I was ready to blog about it in here and everything. But AaaaHHH the catch!!! So after the wonderful prize packagae was all described to me, she goes and you can get this wonderful package for 90% LESS of the ARV for only $398.00. :cussing: :cussing: :booty" So of course I go excuse me, I thought I won? Didn't i win the sweepstakes, she goes yes ma'am at a 90% off discount. So after I tell her I didn't have $398.00 to give her she then offers me a payment plan and asks if i can pay 198.00 today?? WTFFF??? I told her HELL NO! So then she was like ok so you dont have the money, but by that time I hung up in her face.

I am furious. She cause me excitement for no reason. I mean I really thought I had won. I'm glad I'm smart enough to know that if I do win a trip that I wouldn't have to pay for it. Has anyone else ever encountered this before? Do you really have to pay for some of the trips you win in a sweepstakes. Because I know all the trips I've entered to try and win says Free. Smells like a SCAM to me.

Im sorry. Its one of the pitfalls of sweeping. scammers and spammers.. you wont have to pay for a win.. taxes sure. If someone calls saying you won and ask for money.. don't do it. legitimate sweeps will usually send a affy for win like that. They will also say the name of the sweep. Its a good thing ya brought this up.. Some people may get scammed. Dont send money, Dont give private info over the phone like SS#.. :nono: I hope you get a trip win very soon. A legit trip win.

This sounds like "Dream Vacations" (or "Dream World Vacations") which has been posted on SA. They do run a sweepstakes for a real prize, but I believe they do it mainly to accumulate contacts to solicit these bait and hook packages to join.

One of the reasons I VERY RARELY enter for trips, claim2fame. That and I don't like to fly. I always see sweepers talking about sales pitches and unsolicited phone calls and then they realize they've entered a trip sweep.

I loved how you called them bastards, though

I'm so sorry to hear about that!! That's happened to me before, so now, if I'm unsure - right at the begining I'll ask, "What's the cost to me?". That usually cuts to the chase a bit!

I got a similiar phone call - I got 100 dollars TOWARDS a laser hair removal package. The message on my machine said, "Congratulations! You've won, call us at..." We did the same thing at a gym we worked at, we would use those boxes at businesses that said win a gym membership to obtain leads. We'd call everyone and say, "Congratulations! You've won a a membership, please call us soon." And the real deal was they had one a week free membership or a certain amount towards a full membership. I luckily worked the weight management side of the gym so I didn't have to bother with these calls.
