Ghost rider bike win

My husband won the ghost rider "hell bike" back in March and just recieved it this week! Can you imagine? We didnt think it would ever come. Its pretty awesome, but we were a little irritated that it was missing some parts, the tires were flat, and some parts were broken off. we signed an affadavid for this thing back in march, that it was valued at 4,000 dollars. I think we got ripped off, now we have to claim the taxes on it and it was broken. What do you guys think?
 
Take it to a local bike shop and see what they can sell it for realistically. With proof, its okay to claim the lower value. Have heard of folks doing similar w/ airline tix where prize co. claims the tix from NY to Vegas are valued at 3K, even though you can do roundtrip for $500...

You can also contact prize co. to see if it shipped w/ insurance.
 
:sunny: Glad to see you finally received it. I remember reading somewhere in the rules that the bike wouldn't be in new condition, but you would think that it would have been better than what you got. Congratulations!
 
So sorry this happened. I would contact the sponsor about this and as someone else mentioned, a bike shop. Have them write you out some sort of proof of what it is worth. Congrats on the win, sorry it is turning out like this! The sponsor needs contacted ASAP though, you should not be held responsible for taxes on a broken item. They had to have purchased insurance on such a high valued prize.

Congragulations but you should have gotten a better bike for $4000.00 and having to pay taxes on this.I hope you can recoupe your tax money somehow.We really don't know what we are gonna get when we win.Good luck to you and your husband. :wave:
