It never amazes me how stupid some folks can be. At least, when it comes to posting about sweepstakes entries. This dawned on me today when making a comment about one of the sweeps today. So, of course, Loren has to spout.

Each and every sweep has it's rules. Basically, for most sweeps, it boils down to: "one entry per day per person". Sometimes they don't precisely state that properly, but we all know. YEP, you DO know that!

Continuing on with the main idea ...

HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE: (when posting about how you won or didn't win on the 'dark side')

    • [li] ... I just won my third bag of M&M's today! ... (one entry daily)[/li]
[li] ... just won one for my mother-in-law ... (next day: 'just won one for my cousin')[/li]
[li] ... it says I've already entered today and I've already dumped my cookies! ... (duh! Gotta get a better scam!)[/li]
[li] ... I tried to enter my 12 year old and it wouldn't let me do it!... (who broke his fingers?)[/li]

and the list goes on ad nauseam. (Latin) These are actual posts I have read in the last week!

Of course the rational is: "one per person/email". But a little reality-check here folks:

    • [li]... 1 Typist/person[/li]
[li]... 1 She who must be obeyed[/li]
[li]... 12 kids, by different mothers of course[/li]
[li]... 45 assorted different relatives (all living [or dead] at the same address)[/li]
      [li]... 4 dogs[/li]
      [li]... 12 cats[/li]
[li]... 14 neon tetras in the tank[/li]
[li]... 8 assorted hamsters, snakes, and other unidentified reptiles owned by the non-existent kids[/li]

All with their own name and distinct email address!

... Of course NOBODY would ever fudge the rules around here! (That is a general caveat to protect me from Righteous Majority here ... they can throw rocks like crazy!) Yet, that just seems to strike me as strange. Hmmmm?

Some folks need to check their ethics ... or at least look the word up in the dictionary!

OUCH!!! WAS THAT A ROCK??? OUCH!!! OUCH!! NOPE,JUST 20% OFF COUPONS .... HOW CRUEL! BRUTES!!!!

    :)

I agree with all that except one. There really does seem to be a problem with the Bliss sweep thinking you already entered for the day. I only enter anything once a day, around the same time daily (wee hours of the night) and that is it. The darn thing keeps saying I have entered for the day when I haven't. Don't know why, but if I switch browsers to IE/AOL it doesn't happen. Seems to be a Firefox problem, I think... Will have to try using IE/AOL on concurrent days to see.

The only way I could get the game to even load was to enter it on my laptop. But I still get the message I have already entered. I just keep doing the sweep later in the day and on a different computer.

This one really has me perplexed. Now neither browser seems to be able to get me a play, and I checked to make sure I was well past 24 hours. We are in a single family home on DSL and I am the only sweeper, and only sweep for myself, I don't enter for others. It is really strange! I haven't had problems with it loading, though. Just that it keeps telling me I have already played when I haven't.

How about "My kid just won a ... in the ... instant" when it is obviously a school day and school time. And then they say "I'm not going to tell him/her until ..."!

Hi,

Here's the thing though. Life & Style has started blocking a 2nd entry. It used to be that you could just log out, now you have to dump cookies. For example. Wife comes home to do her sweeps and gets to Life & Style and shows that she has already entered. Which she hasn't. Then she has to dump cookies. And this is a one per person sweep. But I suspect L & S has started doing this to discourage serial sweepers. Now. What is up with that? I'm the one who gets in trouble cause I'm supposed to dump the cookies after I enter? But I agree. I saw one not too long ago and the poster said, "oh goodie. I just won an instant for my son in South Carolina." Now this sweeper lives in Montana but is entering for her son who lives in SC? Or. I just won for my girlfriend, cousin, best friend, grandmother, uncle, ad infinitum. We might see a day when all sweeps are one per computer address. THAT would certainly level the playing field.

While we're on the subject...I have a question. I saw in another post about this same kind of stuff where it talks about one per email...saying that you can enter with as many emails you have. Do any of you actually do that? I'd be nervous about being disqualified...somehow it just wouldn't seem right entering myself under different emails even if that's what the rules state. Maybe the rules really still mean (and assume) one entry per person....any ideas?

The verbage in rules has to be carefully worded to specify exactly what the sponsor sets as the number of entries a person or household can have, and they have to be legally held to that.

That said, I don't believe I ever came across a sweepstakes where the rules just state "one entry per email" address. If it did, there really isn't anything they can do to stop people from entering from multiple addresses.

It normally says "one entry per person, per email". That separates to mean "one entry per person" and "one entry per email". So, in that case, a person can only enter once no matter what.

The new Real Simple one in the dailies (listed in todays) says "one per email per day"....what do you think?

I think whoever in their legal department that wrote it up that way is a schmuck!

Now, they do usually have a disclaimer in the rules that protects them from human, electronic, and mechanical error due to the running/setup/operation of the actual sweepstakes; but not for the actual verbage of the rules.

The rules are pretty much like a contract and legally binding. If that's how they worded it, then it does allows a person to enter from every email address they have whether they meant it to be that way or not.

I don't think most people would even notice or comprehend it.

In a way, though, you could say it's not really different than a sweepstakes that states entries are unlimited.

First of all, a lot of folks use prizes for their kids as presents because they need to. My SIL wins often for her kids and gives them as presents. I'm sure it's no concern to you, but her kids wouldn't have a Christmas if it was not for those sweeps.

Most parents don't let their kids on if they are young kids and a responsible parent. Our kids are under 9 and no they aren't on the computer.

And why is the parents fault that an instant win for 'ages 5-12' goes off at 4 in the morning? Did you realize that it's the JA who makes that rule, not a parent?

I've won early in the morning some movie cash in the Campbell's... and nope, I'm not going to NOT play at that time because my kids aren't awake. they aren't online anyway and its' the JA who makes the winning at 4 in the morning or 11 in the morning on a school day.

I'll keep entering for my kids and if I win at 4am, I am not feeling bad that they picked a time that they KNOW a child would not be up in any time zone (except, ok hawaii! lol)
