FACEBOOK tips & tricks

Facebook - it's another sweeps platform - if you are having problems with FB, check out this thread

SA not SP member?

Facebook & Twitter Contests will not save because they only have a place to be saved in PLUS - you either save them to that category in the drop-down, or into whichever category YOU name.

Facebook doesn't run sweepstakes - it's just another sweeps platform - sponsors choose to use it because it is so popular.

At 1st, it was just lesser known/local sponsors. Now it runs the gamut from those lesser known/local to National/well known sponsors, so we have to make sure we read the rules - some will say you have to pick up the prize!

Still others will offer prizes to all, but only provide them in certain States, so I *always* check out the sponsor before I enter!

Re: FACEBOOK tips & tricks

FACEBOOK entry form won't load?

Did you accept the app? Maybe you have popups blocked? You'll get a "Request for Permission" that you MUST allow to proceed. *MOST* FB sweep sweeps require this.

If you DID accept the app but still can't get to the entry form?

Try tabbing thru to the end and hitting ENTER - just click on the page {in a field works best} then hit tab until the enter button shows, hth, gla!

Sometimes, if you load a FB sweeps and don't enter right away, it will ask you to LIKE the page to enter, or tell you your session timed out - I just reload the home page/WALL, then either click the link, or reload the sweeps link. May take multiple tries.

Are you getting: "Secure browsing is not supported."

TRY:

:sunny: Try this to get access to the FB pages that you are having trouble with:
Look to the top right for the downward arrow to the right of Home
Click arrow and a drop down menu appears
Click on Account Settings
Click on Security on the left side of page
In about the center of the page you will see Secure Browsing - change from enabled to disabled
Click on the Save Changes at the bottom of the page

You should be good to go!

Also check the address - if it says

https://www.facebook.com

Delete the S and reload the page to get:

http://www.facebook.com

Re: Something else to watch for on Facebook - a missed win cautionary tale

I didn't realize this until one of the sponsors of one of the sweeps posted something yesterday (and then I checked mine and saw that I missed out on a $50 gift card win in October because of my ignorance :cussing: ).

If you get a direct message on Facebook from a non-friend or business account (like a sweep sponsor), it doesn't alert of those in the messages alert along the top of your screen next to notifications. It doesn't alert anything anywhere.

If you go into messages, on the left side of the screen indented a little is the word "Other". Messages from businesses or people you don't know end up in Other.

Fortunately, most sponsors use email, but if you enter a FB sweep that mentions sending a FB direct message to the winners, you might want to check Other so you don't miss out too.

Re: Seeing Facebook in the wrong language? --- > How to change it!

Are you seeing Facebook in another language? Here is how to change it to English.

Step 1. Click "Account Settings" in the drop down box located in the upper right hand corner of your Facebook homepage (see pic 1 )

Step 2. You will now be on your General Account Settings page. Click edit after "language". (See Pic 2)

Have too many LIKES?

I was entering some of the crazy blog contests that require you to like upteen hundred pages for entries and after a while I would click the like button, it would show that I liked it, then a few seconds later, change back. After doing some searching on the internet, it appears that you can only have a combined total of 5000 friends and page likes. I tested it by unlike-ing a page, and was able to like another page. So, it now appears that I am going to have to do a major clean-up on fb and unlike a bunch of pages. Does anyone how a quick way to do this? It will take forever to do it one by one.

Now I feel the need to rant: I really hate facebook, but it seems all companies are starting to use them for sweeps. It used to be only smaller contests, but now a lot of the contests with huge prizes are using fb for their contest platform. It isn't that I mind entering through fb so much as it gives them way to much power. A while back they decided that for some reason my account was not legit (I have seen this happen to many sweepers) and locked me out of my account for several days. There were a lot of contests that I could not enter because of this. At anytime, for no reason, they can disable anyone's account and basically void all your entries in many sweeps. And now because all of these sites that require you to like them to enter, and fb's like limit, I am going to have to spend hours maintaining my account. I really wish fb would go away like myspace and the others did in the past, but it would be replaced by the latest, greatest, annoying social media.

Amy, there's a far easier way to UNLIKE a Facebook Page:

Bring up the FB page you want to unlike, scroll down and look for the following options on the left:

Create a Page
Get Updates via SMS
Get Updates via RSS
Unlike
Report Page
Share

Click 'Unlike' and you're done!

Btw, some current Bud Light promotions have the same problem as Trop's did that you mentioned, so this is a much more convenient way to deal with it :)

Re: FACEBOOK tips & tricks

FB TIP - when FB sweeps get wonky:

try reloading the wall {I usually refresh the page a few times},
THEN reload the game/entry link,
OR,
unlike {then refresh the page a few times}, like the wall again,
THEN reload the game,
OR
try again later

If you have problems with the SA link, and the rules are blocked until you "LIKE" the FB page, so you can't go through the rules, try doing a search on FB for the sponsor to start at their FB page.

TIP: One of the GREAT things about FaceBook & Twitter is you can check them when sweeps go down/you can't login or when a sweeps requires

a code - just do a search for the sponsor and read their WALL/post to it - most won't allow others to post unless it's in response to one of their posts - I look for the most recent post only if they don't have one on the promo.

Once you accept the APP to enter a sweeps, they usually want to post as you.

Almost *all* FB sweeps ask to do this so they can put their promo info on your wall.

I just allow them for the duration {some 1x's require you to continue to like them up to the end of the sweeps} Then I delete the app - for info on how to do that:

FACEBOOK

Since SA editors have to link to the registration/landing page, for those FB sweeps that ask you to login for subsequent entries, you should bookmark the login page for FB sweeps that are other than 1x entry JIC it's difficult to find that page after your initial entry.

OR, this is where NOTES come in handy, you can post the login link there, and in Firefox, once you hilight the link with your cursor, you can open it in a new tab or window!

From goodguy46947 via COMMENTS:

If you're worried about an app posting on your behalf just do what I do... When accepting the app click the drop down box under "Who can see posts this app makes for you on your Facebook timeline" and choose "Only Me." That way only you see the posts and none of your friends.

Kicked off FB?

I've been kicked off FB a few times - it's a nightmare trying to get any help/answers!
Anyway, I just don't bother with it when it happens - I clear temp files/cookies then reboot and try to log in to FB again.
Sometimes it takes a few days, then it self corrects. :crazytongue:

If that doesn't work? You'll need a cell phone to get back on:

Twice in the past week I have had to get a code via cell phone to get back in. What I would like to know is what if you don't have a cell phone ... are you out forever? I know a few people on FB that don't have cell phones.

You have to send a copy of your ID if you can't get the text code. This has happened to a ton of sweepers in the past week (found a thread in Google search.) No amount of deleting cookies/logins/temp files, etc. will help you if you are locked out of Facebook like this. It's either text code, send in ID or nothing. If you make another account, I would assume it would be locked as well since you are only supposed to have one.

Re: FACEBOOK tips & tricks

Latest version on Firefox is the best option browsing facebook. Works best for me.

Re: FACEBOOK tips & tricks

What does it mean when the rules say:

"Entrants can enter the Sweepstakes for free by the Alternate Method of Entry."

I've been wondering this for a long time since I always thought it was illegal to require a "purchase" to enter.

Does it simply mean you don't have to "like" the Facebook page?

For facebook sweeps, open the rules and scoll to the bottom. You'll find the alternative means of entry link posted there (if there is one). You do not need to "like" the Facebook page to enter.

New listing # 4 in Facebook on 8/26/12 is a good example (Eco Bay Home - Back to School Kindle Sweepstakes)

ALternate entry means there is another way to enter other than by FB. Either online or by snail mail etc.

Re: FACEBOOK tips & tricks

Most sponsors won't let you start a convo on their FB - I try to find their most recent post that pertains to their promo & post under that. hth, gl!

SOCIAL FIXER

missmarta posts about this tip;

Also, I use an app on facebook that allows me to customize my page. It gives you a column of all the pages that you like-you can go quickly and unlike whichever ones you don't want anymore. I could never find a list of my "liked" pages on my page in regular facebook. It is called SOCIAL FIXER.

Tip from qtschartner on unliking/removing LIKES:

@Slyfox33 definitely agree with you and I wish that it existed on Facebook but since it don't I can tell you a fast way of unliking almost everything on there ,and it is something what I did to Unlike alot of pages on there, and i'll tell you it as well as everyone ,and hopefully it'll help you's all out . Here's what to do :
1.Go to your Facebook page
2.Once there Click on your "Likes" page .
3.Once you did that look on the right of the "Likes" page and you'll see the edit button
4.When you see the edit button, click on it,and scroll down to the bottom of it until you see a link that says
"Other Pages you like"
5.When you see that link , Click on it,and it'll be a faster way to Unlike pages on there.

I definitely hope that this helps you and everyone out ,Because it sure has helped me
out a ton,and I found found out
about it one day when I was searching google, and I didn't know if it would work for me or not,
and so I tried it out and it worked perfectly for me.

AND:

Try a Facebook app called "Unlike it". Very quick way to delete likes, and you can view them in order of date, number of likes, and several other ways. Works for me.

How do I mass unlike Facebook pages? [ASK MR. NOOBIE] | Noobie

QUESTION: I use Facebook to enter contests and have had to like a lot of things to enter. I get a frequent block on Facebook that I am over 5,000 likes and have to delete some of them to continue. The thing is that it is very laborious to try to look at all my likes, pages/businesses and then unlike them. Is there a way to do an easy unlike of a lot of liked sites rather than go to each particular page and unlike them individually? Is there an easier way to be able to see my likes and delete a lot of them faster? Thank you for your time!! – Meredith P. from Round Pond, Maine

ANSWER: You're in luck, Meredith. There is an easier way. But before I tell you how to do it, I want to point out that my solution is how you view all of your liked pages on Facebook today.
Facebook is always changing things and my step-by-step approach could be outdated in as little as a few months. So when you read this, take action immediately.

The first step is to view your Activity Log on Facebook.
You can do this by clicking your own name at the top right of your Facebook page to go to your timeline.
Once your timeline appears, look for and click the Activity Log button near the bottom right of your cover photo.

On the Activity Log screen look down the left hand side of the page for the word Likes.
Click Likes to expand two more options.
Click the first option labeled Pages and Interests.

If you have followed all of the steps correctly up to this point, a list of all of your liked pages should appear on the screen.
For each page you want to unlike, float your mouse over the name of page that follows your name. In your case it would say “Meredith likes xxxxxx” where xxxxxx is the page name.

When you do this, a mini version of the page's cover photo will appear with a row of buttons along the bottom. One of the buttons will be labeled “Liked”.
Click this button to reveal a menu. One of the choices on the menu will be Unlike.
Click Unlike and you're done.

Rinse and repeat for all of the remaining pages you want to unlike. You still have to unlike one page at a time but at least you don't have to visit each page individually.

Twitter's technical follow limits:

Every account can follow 2,000 users total. Once you’ve followed 2,000 users, there are limits to the number of additional users you can follow. This number is different for each account and is based on your ratio of followers to following; this ratio is not published. Follow limits cannot be lifted by Twitter and everyone is subject to limits, even high profile and API accounts.
Every Twitter account is technically unable to follow more than 1,000 users per day, in addition to the account-based limits above. Please note that this is just a technical limit to prevent egregious abuse from spam accounts.
Accounts are also prohibited from aggressively following other users. Our Follow Limits and Best Practices Page has more information on Twitter’s following rules.
