Entering Daily Contests

I have been dying to ask anyone who would like to help out a new sweeper. I enter a lot of daily's, I just enjoy it, but I would like to pick someone's brain on if there is any other strategy other than entering daily's at different times of the day? Do you enter at a certain time of the hour? do you enter at the top of the minute? Just curious!! Thanks for any and all feedback!!

IMHO, the most important thing {besides enter & forget it :crazytongue:} is to try to get in an entry every day - what time you enter only matters for IW's, since for regular daily sweeps, there's no telling if they pull winners from all entries or from just a handful from each day.

I change it up {my DH works a rotating shift so I sleep/enter on a rotating shift} lately I enter my IW's first, then my daily sweeps. If I go for a long time without winning an IW, I'll reverse it.

PLUS rocks because I can put sweeps in MY category - so if a daily gives out prizes during the sweeps [ie; DP/WP/MP {Daily Prize/Weekly Prize/Monthly Prize} ] I treat them like they are IW's.

So far {8 years in} I've hit mostly on IW & DP/WP/MP sweeps. I've only hit a few straight daily sweeps where they drew after it ended.

My biggest wins were from a daily that gave out DP/WP/MP's {I won the GP of $10,000 after entering it daily for about a year - that was after entering online for 6 years} and an IW from HALL's for a $4,000 Merry Maids gc after entering online for about 5 years.

Amy Shulkusky: I too enter the daily sweeps. Do you enter all of them or filter out what you don't want?

I'm *very* picky! :crazytongue:

Trips - I skip, unless they give $$$ in lieu.
Kids toys/games/school supplies - my son is too old.
Cars - only if they give $$$ in lieu and/or there are lots of lower tier prizes I'd like to win.
Girly girl type prizes {makeup/perfume/clothing/etc} - I'm so not one, so I skip.
Movie tickets/concert cash/etc. - I skip. Not interested

I mostly enter for cash & electronics - haven't won an IPAD {yet  } but I have won plenty of ipods/xboxes :headbang:

Oh - I left out AMAZON - I *eat* books so I NEED AMAZON codes to feed my addiction, lol!!!

:sunny: Other then entering as often as you can to increase your odds, there is no specific time to enter dailys. I enter at all times of the day and evening. I seem to be pretty lucky and have won just about everything that you could possibly imagine other than a vehicle or house. I have really cut back as there isn't too much that I need/want anymore. I'm always game for the adventure of a trip especially if everything is included. Cash prizes are always my favorite.

Thanks everyone!! That thought came into my head about 10 days ago and I couldn't let it go!! Now I will begin to enter my daily's with the original enter it and forget it that I started with! I faithfully enter my daily's for things I want, I don't just enter to enter and the same with the cars and trips. Thanks so much y'all and have a great day and good luck to everyone! PS....Haven't won an I Pad either, I would love a Kindle Fire!!

I really don't think there is a time of day or time of hour that works better for IW or dailies, although I'd say late afternoon/evening entries are not that great for IW's, IMO or should I say, my experience! And you might get a lot of varied input on that too. LOL

I'm not a sweeping pro like many of the folks here, but I have gone in spurts over the course of six years or so. I haven't won a lot of luxurious things, but I have won enough to keep me going in this hobby. I'd like to add though that when I first started, I filled out EVERYTHING ... and I won a lot of silly things that were absolutely no use to me. I spent a lot of time on the computer back then filling out every contest that popped up. Fast forward to now -- I only spend about an hour each night before bedtime and fill out only what I really want. It seems to be really working for me as the last few months have been great for winning things. And I do follow that "enter and forget it" rule. It makes it nice when you receive a "Congratulations" in your email because you automatically know it's something you will love because you've only filled out for stuff you absolutely want.

Good luck winning a Kindle! That was actually something I really wanted too and I focused all my energy on winning one a couple months ago ... and within a couple weeks, I received a winning email! I was a very happy gal! I won it off a blog and there's plenty more kindle fire blog contests out there. Do those too! They're worth it :)

That is an interesting take! And if you have been doing it off and on for years, I'd consider you more experienced than someone like myself dong it for 10+ months. Funny thing is, the reason I am answering your post is, I think some of us really want almost everything! LOL...either for myself OR someone I know! So, I can't narrow the sweeps down very well!

Haha. I had that problem in the beginning too. As of five months ago though, I started sweeping pretty consistently. When I began, I narrowed my wants down to three things: (1) Kindle Fire (2) Kitchenaid Mixer and (3) a mattress. I literally focused ALL my energy on one of those items until I won it. I set up google alerts to alert me whenever a new Kitchenaid Mixer contest began ... and I filled out every sweepstakes I could find that was giving one away. If they were dailies, I made sure I filled them out EVERY DAY. Even if I didn't do anything else that day, I made sure I at least done those. So far from that "want" list, I've won the mixer (a 6qt. professional!! :D) and the Kindle Fire. I'm still working on the mattress :)

Maybe others are different than me, but I like to keep things manageable. When I first started sweeping, I must have been filling out like 500 or so a day. I kept that up for a good little while ... and then I got really overwhelmed and gave up on it all. Then years passed and I didn't fill out any. Now, I just fill out what I really want and glance at the expiring sweeps every day and try to get an entry in those. I do go in spurts where I fill out a ton ... if I have time. Example: I probably filled out 1000 in the last week for the end of the month sweeps. We'll see what comes of that. That's not my normal routine though. I just keep my wants realistic, my sweeping time short, and be grateful for what I do win. It's a hobby, not a part-time job. Ya know? Anyways, that's what's worked for me. I'm always curious to see what other people's strategies are. What works for some doesn't work for others. Hopefully you'll find what works for you soon enough. Good luck!

So, So, nice for all the input, I like the idea about the google alerts, so will do that and the day I WIN, you bet, I will be shouting from the roof tops!!!! My kids think I have finally fallen off the deep end, but my husband is wonderfully supportive!! So have all of you, Thank You So Much!!!! :sunny:

Shleesh, I appreciate that info. and a look into what your take is! Maybe I will get it narrowed down sometime...I hope! Right now, it's like I want it all but the big items are my priority. That isn't very helpful...so, you are right...I do a lot of entering everyday! I have gotten tired at times. LOL Thanks! And GL with that mattress win!! :sunny:

Saylor..you are welcome...and GL! :sunny:

I swear by timing, and I've added sweeps to change that aspect - sweeps I'd be OK but not thrilled to win - I swear it's how I won my GP!!!

As long as you go with your "gut" you'll do well - that thought came for a reason, matbe you just need to change up the order/time of day you enter or something?

As usual, lots of good advice here. Amy, you wrote:

I like your idea of treating these as IWs but how do you tell if the prizes are given out during the sweeps?

Sometimes the listing will note it - I usually only keep up with the IW & Daily categories & when FB exploded, I stopped checking that category and started using keywords to search like:

daily prize
weekly prize
monthly prize

Hi Amy--so what you are saying is that you search for sweeps in the daily, weekly, etc. categories and then look at the winner selection part of the rules to see if the winner is selected right away?

 bonniesawinner - I start out by opening the IW category, sorting them by Date Added, then I C&P Entry Date to Find on this page... {in IE} or FIND {in FF} to quickly go thru to see if there are any I haven't seen yet. As I go through them, I mark the unmarked SweepsCheck and save the ones I want into the category I choose.

When I'm done, I save, then I use the search box from the home page using daily prize, weekly prize, and/or monthly prize as keywords - this covers ALL categories, so I catch the 1x entry sweeps too!

I then repeat what I do in the IW category, but since I already sorted by Date Added, and Entry Date is already in FIND, it's just a matter of hitting PREVIOUS, or NEXT, depending on if I want to start at the top or at the bottom.

SweepsCheck is *perfect* for this! And PLUS is da bomb!!! :headbang:
