Degree?

How many of you have degrees or are working to getting one? I made the decision in 2012 to go back to school. I noticed in my job search that these companies want people with some type of degree or education. I feel in order to make a decent amount of $$$ I will need that degree to get me there. I am taking Bachelor of Science in Management witha concentration in Project Management. From there I want to keep going, maybe even get a Masters. For me, this has been an experience. I attend the University of Phoenix here in California. I graduate in 2015 and I can not waitttt....

Please comment, I am eager to hear about everyone else.

Thanks

Champagne!!

Education was a big deal in my house and is something very dear to my heart...I have a bachelor's in English, a Master's in Philosophy and I am currently working on a phd in English. At this point, school is stressing me out like nobody's business so I am planning on taking a one year leave of absence starting at the end of this semester.

You said that going to school has been an experience for you...hmm, does that mean its been good or bad?

I started babysitting at 12, had under the table jobs {receptionist/locker attendant at the country club} at 14 or 15, and dropped out of HS at 16 when I got a job at Jack in the Box. I was promoted to night shift manager and at 19 joined the USN.

In the USN, I learned how to work on Aviation Support Equipment {ASE} - mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. After my 1st tour, I got out, and couldn't find a job - turns out military skills don't translate well and/or they didn't want a female in those fields in the 80's.

Anyway, I re-joined and had to select a different trade {ASE was closed to E-5 females in '85} and I went back to school - SEABEE Builder.

After a medical discharge {messed up my back} I went to college and earned an AA and am just shy {6 credits} of a BA {ran out of $$$} in Hotel/Casino management.

College in my 30's worked for me - but my back got worse so I never did put my degree to any use!

College for College's sake seems to be the norm now - employers who used to require just a HS diploma now want a College Degree for entry level jobs, so don't do what I did - I read the syllabus to see what I could skip and still get an A - go for the gold and shine champ!!!

Hi lk107, you have quite the education under your belt. I take my hat off to you. A bachelor, and a masters, and not you would like a phd. You are something to be witnessed. That is a beautiful thing. I admire people like you. Thank you for sharing. It gives me motivation. When I said it has been an experience, I would say it has been good and bad. Bad that I may have a few bald spots due to the stress (hahaha) and good that I am going to finally have a degree. I am really excited that I will be the first in my family to graduate with a degree. I can't waitttttttttttttt.

Hi Amy!!

Wow that also quite a story. I had no idea you have done A LOT with you life. That is sooo great. I love being filled in on peoples lives and the stories they have to tell. I love it! Do you think that at some point you could possibly take the college courses online and get your degree that way? Online is the new!!!!

Congrats on being in the first in your family to get that degree!! How exciting!! Nothing worth having is easy right? The feeling of accomplishment when you finish is just so great and makes it worth the few bald spots and early gray hairs, hahaha!!

Hi lk107,

I want to lead. I dream of being a SUCCESSFUL Project Manager. I applied for the Assistant Project Manager Internship and will see if I get accepted. The sky is the limit. If you really want something bad enough, I'm a strong believer in going and getting it for yourself. No one is going to just hand me over things. I will take what is mine. I'm ready!! Please keep me in your prayers. I WANT THIS SOO BAD
