Daily Facebook Sweeps - has there been a legal change of some kind???

When I bring up my daily Facebook sweeps, all of which I have already 'liked' the sponsor of, I am getting the following message:

Skip or Click Like above then [CONTINUE]

The CONTINUE is actually a button you can press.

This has never happened in the past until a few days ago, and I'm wondering whether or not Facebook has decided to force Facebook clients who are offering sweepstakes through Facebook to offer people the ability to enter their sweepstakes without having to first LIKE their page - does anyone know the answer to this? Since I've already liked each page it appears to me that the message above shows up no matter what, which makes me think Facebook did indeed take this action.

UPDATE: I suspect there indeed has been a change because of the notice I got when looking at the following sweepstakes:

https://www.facebook.com/AmanitaArtStudios/app_289264554441128

If you have already liked this page, or you do not wish to like this page at this time, Please Continue!

I've never seen that before.

Ty, jnieman, but that's not the problem I'm running into - my problem is that I have already liked these pages, the pages show as being liked and yet I still get the message every day to either skip or continue, which implies that I don't even need to LIKE a page to enter the sweeps. I am not un-liking and re-liking the page, I'm only clicking on CONTINUE. For the heck of it, I've also clicked on Skip and it accepts it as well.

There actually was a change of Facebook policy where they prohibited companies from forcing people to "Like" their page in order for a form to show up.

Here is a link that I figure if I interpreted it correctly it will mean far more wins for all of us sweepers concerning Facebook... I personally don't enter Facebook sweeps, and this made me so very happy it was like I had won a billion dollar prize lol (almost)...I'm going to clean up my facebook likes right now. SOUNDS TO ME like ''liking'' pages to see the sweepstakes is a thing of the past. :D

"You must not incentivize people to use social plugins or to like a Page. This includes offering rewards, or gating apps or app content based on whether or not a person has liked a Page. It remains acceptable to incentivize people to login to your app, checkin at a place or enter a promotion on your app's Page. To ensure quality connections and help businesses reach the people who matter to them, we want people to like Pages because they want to connect and hear from the business, not because of artificial incentives. We believe this update will benefit people and advertisers alike."

"In addition to the launch of API v2.1, today, we are announcing two changes to our Platform Policies. Developers should update their apps to comply with these policy changes by November 5, 2014 (90 days from today)."

Yup, FB *finally* enforced their own rules!!!

Could this change be responsible for all the 'like and comment' or 'like, comment and share' sweepstakes on Facebook I've been seeing lately???

I think so - I await a post from curmudgeon since he posts that he or his wife {both?} seek out alternate links for FB sweeps & I posted to his thread!

You had it right the first time, Amy - I think once the new rule went into effect, companies decided that if they can't make you LIKE their page to enter a sweepstakes there's nothing from preventing you from liking a post and then commenting on it (and/or SHARING it) as a condition for entering the sweepstakes. The other day I saw 88 Facebook sweeps and probably 75% of them were of this nature.

In most cases, the verbiage in the rules require a Facebook membership, which my wife won't get. So she's unable to enter unless there's an alternate web entry listed in the rules (amoe sweepstakes).

There are some FB sweeps I've passed on 'cause I wasn't willing to "endorse" the company by liking it. The FB change means I can now enter some of 'em. Payday Loan Co sweeps are an example of a sweep I wouldn't "like".

TY curmudgeon - you are my go to guy on this since I am a member & already LIKE the sponsor to enter, and your wife's experiences are what I'm interested in since I'm proposing a change to SA listing protocol based on sponsor compliance to the new rule, so when we see it widely adopted, hopefully FB sweeps will be list under frequency not platform if Admin agrees.

Amy,

Here's a new FB sweep (today) that could have been listed as a weekly. I can't find any verbiage in the rules that says you must be a FB member to enter. My wife and I didn't enter as you must pick up the prize at a Shopko store, and there aren't any in AZ.

Where do you see "must pick up the prize at a Shopko store"

I see:

address on the official entry form and dropping it into the entry box at the store. If supply of entry

the entry box.

" 6. Prize(s) and Odds of Winning - - - - --- - - - - Winners are responsible for pick up of prize at their nearest Shopko store location."

I dislike these because there is no unique link, it's just a post on their TIMELINE, and not all of the sponsors think to pin the promo to the top!

New change:

As you may or may not be aware Facebook made a big rule change that prevents sweepstakes from requiring or forcing a like in order to enter a sweepstakes. Due to this Certain Facebook hosted sweepstakes can now be categorized by entry frequency.

Example: This sweepstakes does not require you to be logged in or have a Facebook account to enter. We put this in the one entry category based on their rules. https://www.facebook.com/Brueggers/app_533965126739984

*If a sweepstakes does require you to be logged into Facebook to enter this will always be categorized as Facebook sweeps. ( the best way to test this is always be logged off Facebook )

**Under this new format some Facebook sweepstakes could be categorized as daily, weekly, one entry, etc.

Let us know if you have any questions.
