Coke edo card/important

I was not sure where to put this or if I was the only person who did not realize this, most gift cards charge a fee it you have a balance remaining on the card and do not use it, but the Coke Sweepstakes reloadable cards charge $4.95 in fees even if there is a zero balance so if you don't call an cancel the card you owe them money for a gift card. I have never heard of this and I thought the inactivity fee was the same as others and now I have to pay them and they have your social security number to report to the credit bureau. Coke is a horrible company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The recently enacted credit card legislation had provisions in it regarding gift cards as well as credit cards. Gift Cards must now comply with Federal Law regarding fees and expiration dates. You might want to Google the new law.

I checked my balance and saw the fee even though I had a zero balance and then emailed them and they said that's what we signed up for and you had to call to cancel if you don't want them to charge a fee.

Are they going to send us a bill? If this is true I think Coke is going to get a lot of bad publicity over this. They gave away thousands of those gift cards. Many of us used them and then tossed them. I just don't understand how that can apply to prepaid visa/mc/etc. If I buy one and say give it to a teacher, then who pays the charge? Do they even have contact information for anyone in that case? I understand that they can have an expiration date and charge a fee for non-usage until the balance is used up but charge a fee even if there is no balance? I just don't believe it.

Oops....I just re-read the OP.

Hopefully it's just for the re-loadable cards. I never got one of those. But I still don't think it's right.

I emailed them and they said

The account is in negative because of inactivity, there is an inactivity fee of
$4.95 which will be charged every month. This fee is obligated after six months of
no activity on the card, we will highly recommend you to load your card so you do
not get charged any inactivity fee in future. Kindly call the number printed on
the back of the card for further assistance.

First guy i spoke to could of course couldn't do anything and claimed his supervisor couldn't either. He said he couldn't close it with a negative balance. I insisted on speaking to the supervisor. I told him the only reason I even had this card was that it was from coke and I no reason to ever use it again (it had zero balance since october). The supervisor removed the fee and canceled the card.

Whew....I had a really stressful expensive return (eyeglasses that weren't made right) today so I'm ready to kick back and relax all weekend!

Nah, sorry but this isn't true. I e-mailed these people & this was the response, "Thank you for your inquiry. You will not be charged any inactivity fees on the Coca-Cola Sweepstakes edoCards you have used." I had two which I used up completely, one the dept. store took & one I cut up. They were both "non-reloadable". Seriously, why would they charge you for a gift card that you won (non-reloadable) with a zero balance? They wouldn't make sense. Now I do not know about the loadable ones. That may be a different story. You may want to e-mail them about that.

Thanks for bringing this problem up. I just got off of the phone with them and yes, they had charged my card with a $4.95 per month inactivity fee for the last 6 months. They waived the fees and I cancelled the card. So much for my "great win".

Thank Our Wonderful Congress for making rules for Credit Card Companies and Gift Cards. To them 5 bucks a month is less than a parking meter change to me its the difference in a days food. I love Subway and the 5 dollar footlong. I love it I love it! I won one and I cannot get it reloaded cause I so dum. I tried. Oh well. Win win win.

I got scared too but mine were also non-reloadable that I put through the shredder.

On the other hand, we won $20 cards but they were loaded for $25., maybe that's the $4.95 they're taking.
