My heritage is Thai and Chinese.. both are very superstituous and believe in ghosts.
The Thai people are very, very, very superstituous. After my parents died, I had a prayer said on the anniversary for two years by Buddhist Monks on the site of their death. It keeps the spirits from walking eternally. This is common with Thai people.
We have all kinds of beliefs about ghosts, vampires, etc, that are indigedous to being Thai.
What is funny is how whites want to lump Asians. Each culture, and really each region, have very different beliefs and customs about ghosts
There is a wonderful movie called "A Chinese Ghost story" with Leslie Cheung (ie: Gorgor). that show a lot of what being Chinese is and how they belief in ghosts.
One thing we do as Chinese is to go to a fortune teller for our wedding dates.. to make sure they are good. Marrying on a '4' is bad luck. Four is a very evil number. You also do not want to have children in the year of the goat or pig. Both are believed to be bad luck.
Having a child born in the year of the dragon is best. Tigers (which I am) and horses are next best.
ANYTIME you plan on getting serious with someone, you check to see if your signs match. Well, some folks do.. but I have to admit, I had to think about it a bit when I met David, I did calculate that he was a Dog in my head and that Dogs and Tigers are a good match
When I told my grandmother that I was going to get married, she asked me if I had talked with my great aunt, who is a fortune teller. Oh my god.. I didn't ask her to check the day with her.. what is WRONG with me? :nono: :nono:
So, we were going to get married next June... nope.. aint gonna happen.. Auntie said date in July is good. sigh...
she doens't know we got married a few weeks ago.. but the family will come to a wedding in July. And no I'm NOT telling them that we got married already.. they will all shoot me. lol
So am I superstious? Of course not.... much...
