I won the $15,000 dollar bed bath and beyond sweepstakes. The bed bath and beyond part was wonderful.

Sherwin Williams was an entirely different story. They put $10,000 toward household painting. You could only choose indoors or outdoors. I picked indoors and it came out to $5,000. I met with painters and picked which one I felt comfortable having in my household. They did a horrible job painting, talked down to me and broke a bunch of things in my house and left them. I fired them before they even finished the job. Honestly, winning things might seem great in theory but when it has to do with contractors and stuff of that nature - I wouldn't bother entering. They look at it as "Well, she won a sweepstakes so it doesn't matter if I do a bad job." wrong, it reflects bad on the company. Especially since Sherwin Williams has been hanging up on me and will not give me money for the tiffany lamps they broke in my house. I felt violated coming home to my entire room in shambles, glass on the floor...beware.

I totally understand. Two years ago I won a limited edition , one of a kind, picture, signed -by the painter. Not a reprint, but an actual painting. BEAUTIFUL. Framed in the most beautfullest wood. i won this item from a big company.
So, it's been there for the past two years, and all of a sudden in June, I started to notice mounds of wood shavings built up on the outside frame. I wiped it away, and in two weeks it was back again. Thought i had termites. Started making phone calls, and it turns out the wood that they used to frame the picture was imported from another country and was framed untreated. Inside the wood was a bug called a powder post beetle. It can lay dormant for up to 3 years. Terminex wanted $750 to fumigate it. I got the picture frame place up in town to dismantle it, and to reframe it for $300. Thank goodness it only goes after that certain type of wood. That's why it didn't go after the paper on the back of the frame. When they removed the paper , you should have seen all the wood shavings that fell out of it. I was sick when i saw it.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

As far as things broken in your house, Sherwin Williams would not be responsible for reimbursement. You need to tally up the damage and file suit in small claims court against the contractor. You won't need a lawyer. It will just cost you a small filing fee and some of your time to appear in court. Hopefully, you have pictures of the damaged items as proof and something to backup their value.

As far as contractors go, you really need to know the person you are hiring or get someone highly recommended from friends or family who had work done and were happy with the contractor.

We had our whole house rennovated inside and out and knew every contractor we hired and their quality of work.

Don't get too discouraged over this. It's not an example of every situation. :)

:sunny: So sorry to hear your wonderful win turned sour. In most states painting contractors are required to carry liability insurance. I would definitely be taking pictures of the poor painting and damages to send to Sherwin Williams. I can't imagine that they would be too happy knowing that they paid for shoddy work.

Were they true Tiffany lamps or Tiffany style? A true Tiffany lamp can be worth thousands.

If they were true Tiffany lamps and over $5,000, I would be in touch with my insurance company and a lawyer, I think over that amount is more than small claims court can recover for you.

Also, don't forget contacting the Better Business Bureau. They will help you with the dispute and at any rate can have a negative posted against the contractor.
