Captchas: 4 Tips on how to reduce your typing captchas by over 50%

I thought I'd share these tips - they should really cut your typing those captchas in half when it's a captcha from ReCaptcha (motto: stop spam. read books):

Tip 1: Almost always you will see 2 words or phrases separated by a space. In ReCaptcha's case (seemingly the most popular one out there), they have one of these phrases marked with a wavy line. I've discovered that you only have to enter the phrase with the wavy line over it - you don't have to type the other phrase.

Here's an example of a contest using ReCaptcha: http://www.foodnetworkstore.com/checkout/contests/ipad2.aspx?

Tip 2: In ReCaptcha's case, whenever you see upside down words or gibberish, you don't need to enter those.

Tip 3: Also for ReCaptcha, you don't have to enter any punctation marks, just numbers and letters.

Tip 4: ANY captcha (not just from ReCaptcha) which has phrases separated by a space: you don't have to enter the space! It adds up, believe me.

Hope you found this useful - gla

kcmoviebuff TY!!!

I knew about no space and to ig other than letters & numbers, but I didn't know about the rest! :crazytongue:

One other thing I've just noticed today: When entering a ReCaptcha captcha (the phrase with the wavy line over it), I don't have to enter the very last character in it for it to be valid. Anyone, please let me know if this works for you - ty.

I'll try that when I enter later.

Sometimes I'll come across ones that will take anything - like I could type just the letter B when the code is 15 characters - or even some that don't need anything entered, but they are rare and I usually find out by accident :crazytongue:

I noticed today that ReCaptcha's phrases have switched (again) from the wavy line phrases to phrases partially colored in black and white block letters - if you see a black and white block phrase, it acts exactly like a wavy line phrase: it's the only one you need to enter out of the 2 phrases shown.

I want to say "THANK YOU" -- you guys have drastically reduced my sweeping time and frustration with some of the captchas...

Yup - many thanks - the simple rules work for me also.
Great time saver!

You're all welcome!

A final tip, mostly for those starting out - you don't have to worry about exactly matching a captcha with respect to lower-case and upper-case characters: it doesn't matter in probably 90-95% of all captchas regardless of what they display. WHY they do this, I have no idea, but a good rule of thumb is to initially ignore that and just get the captcha correct - if it complains, then match the case. It is really annoying when they post something like 'AScghKL' and it doesn't matter WHAT case you enter :cussing:

p.s. Recaptcha switched again on Monday - this time you only have to enter the phrase in italics. I guess the rule of thumb is that you only have to enter the phrase that looks different.

 I just want to thank you kcmoviebuff for those great tips! They are the best sweeping tips I have gotten since they started using captcha. What a time saver.

Thank you! So glad I took the time to read your post. I usually just keep hitting reload button until it puts something in the box that is short and understandable.

I thought I would share another tip I've discoved while entering captchas on the various Meredith Corporation magazine sweepstake
forms - this was my first topic:

http://www.sweepstakesplus.com/smf/...your-typing-captchas-by-over-50-t76993.0.html

And here are the various magazines my tip will work for, and all others that look similar (you know it when you see them - you have to click on Play to see the captcha):

The tip: don't bother entering the last 2 characters in ANY of the captchas you see. For example, I entered "RA" instead of "RAV4" and it worked. I tried leaving the last 3 off but it didn't accept it, so 2's the limit.

That's it - not complicated, but if you're entering multiple Meredith sweeps every day all year long, it adds up and besides, it feels good to outsmart 'em a little bit - GL

Ok, new cheat - type 1st word, then any letter. No need to type the 2nd word - TY to my son for this tip

So bizarre! I just discovered that this morning and was coming to post about it

Ha ha ha, I *finally* beat you to the punch, lol!!! :crazytongue:

Actually, I was complaining/explaining, and my son clued me in, and as i was entering my sweeps at the time, I was able to test it ASAP, then I posted.

btw - it's NOT universal - some still required the whole thing. :nono:

Did you forget I warned you about that exact thing at this link?

"Also, here's a tip: if the distinguished term appears second, you'll have to enter the entire first term as well, so keep refreshing until the distinguished term appears first, ensuring you only have to enter that and the first character of the second term (which is often numbers or garbage)."

The 'distinguished' term is the wavy script - and here's another tip for the case where you only have to enter the first term + 1 character - whatever the last character is of the first term, just hit the same key (for example, if its 'xdectio', enter 'xdectioo') since it's a lot easier and if you hit it more than once it doesn't matter.

lol - I skimmed :booty"

I also backwards stuff - dyslexia with numbers/ideas more than with words :crazytongue:

This is my first post here! I hardly ever actually type in the words. I have an old fashioned notepad on my pc wich I keep open constantly and a list of the most common words. I just copy & paste the words in every time I can. Still working on my list but here is the start if you want to make one for yourself. Saves a lot of time and miss spellings. Keep it alphabetical to be easier. Capcha Entries Bauer Giveawayscheddar cheese
